Leading with Heart: Ooredoo Launches Phase 2 of Its Goodwill Journey to Uplift and Empower

Following the success of Phase 1, Ooredoo has officially launched Phase 2 of its flagship CSR initiative, the Goodwill Journey, from Muscat Grand Mall. The launch was held under the patronage of H.E Sheikh Ali bin Mohammed Al-Tamimi, Wali of Samail, and in the presence of H.E Dr. Younis bin Hamed Al Siyabi, Member of Shura Council representing Wilayat of Samail.This new leg of the journey takes the team to Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, where a major highlight includes the inauguration of the Coffee Waste Recycling Project at the Omani Women's Association in the Wilayat of Samail.One of the winning initiatives from the Innovative Incubator Competition, the project transforms used coffee grounds from local cafés into natural skincare products. Spearheaded by more than 100 Omani women, this initiative supports sustainability, skills development, and entrepreneurship, with an annual production goal of over 2,000 units.Mohammed Aziz, Director of Branding and Communications at Ooredoo, commented: "This phase of the Goodwill Journey is a reflection of what long-term community investment looks like, transforming ideas into viable projects, driven by local talent and purpose. Our focus is very much on supporting youth and empowering them to turn their energies into tangible achievements, and so it is inspiring to see the women of Sumail turning simple resources into something valuable and sustainable. This is exactly the kind of impact we strive to create, solutions that grow from within the community and can stand the test of time."The journey will also extend its impact to Wilayat Al Hamra, in partnership with His Excellency Sheikh Suleiman bin Saeed bin Salim Al-Azri, Wali of Al Hamra. Together, Ooredoo will support the development of the area near the Eid prayer ground, a popular site for tourists and youth, by installing cabins for productive families and job seekers. The project directly contributes to Oman Vision 2040, with a focus on youth empowerment, sustainable tourism, and inclusive economic growth.
Now in its 21st year, the Ooredoo Goodwill Journey remains a powerful symbol of community empowerment and sustainable progress. With quarterly activations across the Sultanate, the initiative reflects Ooredoo's commitment to long-term social investment, women's empowerment, and building opportunities that leave a lasting impact. It also underlines the company's continued engagement and support Omanis and for communities across Oman. And it's not stopping there.

AUB's School of Business Hosts Regional Workshop to Support Startups and Sustainable Innovation in the Natural Products Industry

The Suliman S. Olayan School of Business (OSB) at the American University of Beirut (AUB), through its Business Practice and Policy Initiative, hosted a two-day regional workshop titled 'Supporting Innovative and Regenerative Startups: Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Natural Products Industry.' Held in collaboration with the UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut; the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO); and the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO, the workshop brought together youth-led startups, entrepreneurs, and experts from across the Arab region to exchange knowledge, promote sustainable business models, and advance innovation in the natural products sector. The workshop focused on showcasing innovative ideas within the regional startup ecosystem, encouraging sustainability practices in business, and aligning projects with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly 'Quality Education' and 'Responsible Consumption and Production.' It also aimed to strengthen participants' ability to scale their ventures while promoting green education, and fostering meaningful connections between entrepreneurs, industry, funding bodies, and policymakers. The workshop further examined potential policy reforms to enhance the productivity and growth of small enterprises in Lebanon and the region. The opening session featured remarks by Raghda Kawass, knowledge and public policy specialist at the Business Practice and Policy Initiative at OSB, who stressed the importance of youth investment and evidence-based policymaking. Professor Yusuf Sidani, OSB dean, highlighted the school's role in developing entrepreneurs who value long-term purpose over short-term profit. Ramza Jaber Saad, director general of the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO, called for urgent support for youth entrepreneurship, emphasizing the value of partnerships and inclusive growth. Dr. Mohamed Sanad Abu Darwish, director of science and scientific research at ALECSO, addressed the role of startups in balancing economic and environmental goals, while Dr. Maysoun Chehab, senior education program specialist at UNESCO, and Assem Abi Ali, national education programme coordinator at UNESCO emphasized the power of education and innovation in shaping future green entrepreneurs. Participants included regional experts from Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, and Tunisia, as well as twelve Lebanese entrepreneurs in the natural products sector. They engaged in interactive sessions led by faculty members from across the university as well as the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business. Dr. Bijan Azad, director of the Darwazah Center for Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship at AUB, shared insights on startup growth, while Dr. Nada Khaddaj-Sobh, director of the Center for Women in Business at AUB, provided training on pitching and public communication. Dr. Marwan Wahbi, senior lecturer at AUB, addressed digital marketing strategies, and AUB's Environment and Sustainability Unit led sessions on clean production and green marketing. The workshop also featured contributions from key regional stakeholders and incubators. The Talal and Madiha Zein AUB-Innovation Park (AUB iPark) discussed startup financing tools. Guest speakers—including entrepreneurs, investors, and other stakeholders such as Tunisia's Zubair Yahya, Jordan's Nidal Bitar, Lebanon's Suleiman Barda, and Kuwait's Dr. Ihab Khalid Maqableh—explored funding models, market access, and innovation empowerment. This two-day event marked a significant step toward building a more resilient and innovative entrepreneurship ecosystem in Lebanon and the Arab region. By uniting academia, startups, and policy actors, the workshop helped lay the foundation for sustained collaboration and youth-led solutions to regional development challenges.

With this partnership, members of each programme will access expanded mileage accrual opportunities across a broader global network. As of 1 August 2025, Turkish Airlines connects members of Miles&Smiles, its 21+ Million member-strong loyalty programme, to Muscat, Salalah and Khasab in Oman, and across the Oman Air network. Empower's district cooling consumption increases by 7.1% in the first half of 2025

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), the world's largest district cooling services provider, announced a 7.1% increase in the volume of consumption of its district cooling services, measured in refrigeration tons per hour (RTh) during the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. This growth is driven by the high occupancy rates in existing real estate projects, as well as the addition of new projects to the company's portfolio. These developments have contributed to diversifying Empower's customer base, which spans residential, commercial, hospitality, healthcare, retail, entertainment, and other sectors, all of which are increasingly adopting energy-efficient cooling solutions and prioritising sustainability in their operations to reduce carbon sustained increase in district cooling consumption reflects the growing demand for environmentally friendly district cooling services. In the first half of the year, the company signed 86 new contracts to supply more than 99,000 RT to various projects and buildings across Dubai, raising its total contracted capacity to 1.86 million RT. Empower's connected capacity also grew to over 1.6 million refrigeration tons with the addition of approximately 38,000 RT, while the number of buildings served reached 1,684.'Empower is committed to delivering district cooling services of the highest quality and reliability, leveraging advanced technologies and innovations. This performance was further strengthened by the implementation of an extensive maintenance and preparation campaign ahead of the summer season, covering the company's 88 district cooling plants and distribution activity ensured the readiness of all units and facilities, keeping pace with the anticipated seasonal increase in demand, particularly in light of the high summer temperatures. As a result, Empower was able to provide a comfortable indoor environment for Dubai's residents and its customers across the sectors. Empower also highlighted the substantial rise in its customers' district cooling consumption (RTh) over the past five years, from 2020 to 2024, with a growth of approximately 69%. This consistent increase in district cooling consumption in Dubai remains one of the key drivers of the company's ongoing expansion, as well as its sustained revenue growth and profitability.
