What's Next for Accor if Ennismore IPOs and Orient Express Is Sold?
Accor has had at least 3 big re-orgs in a decade. Now it's fine-tuning strategy. Selling stakes in Ennismore and Orient Express could free up resources to more effectively battle the Marriotts of the world. Accor may be in the midst of a strategic shakeup, again: The latest sign is that it is considering an IPO in the U.S. for its joint venture Ennismore, which is currently looking at bankers, Skift has learned from a source familiar with the plans. The review comes after Skift reported last month that LVMH secured an option to acquire full ownership of Accor's Orient Express brand by 2027 as part of a partnership announced last year. An Ennismore IPO, if it materializes, will take time. After that comes the harder question: What exactly is the rest of Accor worth? And what should its new strategy be? An Accor spokesperson said, "We do not comment on market rumors." Ennismore declined to comment. Ennismore's Growth Engine Ennismore — a set of lifestyle hospitality brands — has been a growth engine for Accor since the companiess formed a joint venture in 2021. As part of that deal, Accor bought two-thirds while Ennismore founder Sharan Pasricha kept a third. In 2022, Accor sold a 10.8% stake in Ennismore to a Qatari consortium for €200 million (around $233 million), valuing the business at around €2 billion. Accor doesn't break out financials for Ennismore. But in the first half of this year, Accor's lifestyle RevPAR

The 76-Year-Old Chilean Ski Lodge That Resisted the Temptations of Big Business
In 1961, Henry Purcell, a graduate of Cornell University's hospitality school, received a call from his uncle Bob. Bob Purcell had purchased a ski area in the Chilean Andes on a whim and he needed someone to run it. Henry quit his job at Hilton and headed south. Upon arrival, he found the 123-room Hotel Portillo unoccupied, save for one caretaker and his pet sheep, Lumumba. First opened in 1949 by the Chilean government, the Hotel Portillo and its ski area had quickly unraveled under state management. In 1961, when Bob and fellow New York-based investor, Dick Aldrich, bought the property, they knew they'd be starting from scratch. Even the silverware was missing, taken in lieu of missed paychecks by disgruntled employees. When Henry arrived, he revamped the interior, painted the exterior a bright sunshine yellow and began to get the word out. (Lumumba the sheep was moved into a pen outside the building.)

Police Scotland ‘planning' for US vice president visit as he holidays in UK
Scottish police are thought to be on notice for a visit by the US vice president, who is on holiday in the UK with his family. JD Vance's unconfirmed appearance north of the border would follow president Donald Trump's five-day trip last month, when he hosted Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer at his golf resorts at Turnberry in South Ayrshire and Menie in Aberdeenshire. Mr Vance is holidaying in the Cotswolds but travelled to the Foreign Secretary's Chevening House retreat in Kent on Friday, where the Republican joined David Lammy carp fishing at the countryside estate. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Planning is under way for a potential visit to Scotland by the vice president of the United States. 'Details of any visit would be for the White House to comment on, however, it is important that we prepare in advance for what would be a significant policing operation.' Mr Vance and his family are thought to be planning a visit to Ayrshire but would not stay at Mr Trump's Turnberry resort, according to Sky News. In Kent, Mr Vance said he had a 'love' for the UK but joked he had committed a diplomatic faux pas as he began his holiday. 'Unfortunately, the one strain on the special relationship is that all of my kids caught fish, but the Foreign Secretary did not,' he said. He described Mr Lammy as a 'very, very gracious host'. Mr Trump's visit to Scotland ended less than two weeks ago, after he met with both Sir Keir and First Minister John Swinney.
