‘Joni Mitchell's Blue revolutionised the way I saw music': Emeli Sandé's honest playlist
The first song I fell in love with
Samson by Regina Spektor, when I was 16 and falling in love for the first time. I got introduced to her music when I was working in Virgin Megastore in Aberdeen. Then I met someone in a club.
The first single I bought
All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey, from Asda. My dad had played me the Music Box album from when I was about seven, so I loved Mariah. I saw it in the bargain section for £1.99 and thought: 'Let's get it.'
The song I do at karaoke
I heard … Baby One More Time by Britney Spears when I was 12 and thought: 'Gosh, this is amazing.' It was my introduction to pop music. I loved her dancing and her style. At karaoke, I think everyone expects me to do some big ballad but I'd rather just have fun.
The song I inexplicably know every lyric to
I was part of a youth music theatre group and we sang Seasons of Love from the musical Rent, that starts with: 'Five hundred twenty-five thousand, six-hundred minutes / Five hundred twenty-five thousand moments so dear'. For some reason I can still remember every lyric, 25 years later.
The best song to play at a party
Doo Wop (That Thing) by Lauryn Hill. It's hard to be in a bad mood when the hip-hop drums come in on the harmonies.
The song that makes me cry
A Song for You by Donny Hathaway, I guess for knowing how his life ended and the sadness he was in, but also the intimacy. I love the line: 'I've acted out my life in stages with 10,000 people watching / But we're alone now and I'm singing this song to you.' There's something about that fragile intimacy that gets me every time.
The song I can no longer listen to
My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion. I was obsessed with Titanic as a kid. We sang it at school concerts, we played it at record club in the choir. I rinsed it, so it needs a couple more years' rest.
The song that gets me up in the morning
Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder. I love the energy.
The song I secretly like, but I tell everyone I hate
My friends and I were obsessed with Grease. Every time I hear Greased Lightnin', I pretend it's a bit annoying, but the whole Grease soundtrack is one of my earliest passions.
The song that changed my life
I was taking the night train from Glasgow to London in my early 20s and my manager said: 'You should really listen to Joni Mitchell.' Blue revolutionised the way I saw music because I'd really only listened to pop and R&B. It was the first time I realised there are no rules, you can do what you want; it's about the story you're telling.
The song I'd like played in my funeral
My Love Is Your Love by Whitney Houston.
Emeli Sandé's latest single Roots is out now on Venus Records.

Stacey Solomon hits back at cruel troll who branded her a ‘horse mouth' – as her fuming driver lets rip with sweary rant

The popular star's driver also let his feelings known in a sweary rant, as she opened up about the mean message. The video was taken as she was being ferried around by her driver Steve. Addressing fans, the Loose Women star said: "I usually don't read my messages or reply to many. "I read none the nice ones. I don't read the horrible ones. I just like to get past them and but this message is like literally staring me in the face - it's at the top of my comments on my last story. "I couldn't get away from it and I'll be quite honest with you I don't know if I'm supposed to be offended or take it as a compliment because I actually think horses are really pretty." Then addressing her driver, she said: "Steve, someone commented on my picture - (they said) horse with a little horse emoji." Not holding back, Stacey's protective driver Steve then launched into a sweary rant and said: "What a picture of you "Who is that f***king person?" Lauging at his reaction, the TV star said: "Steve ain't having it!" She then added: "Perhaps is a compliment!" Stacey Solomon launches into huge rant after failing to win Bafta as she admits 'upset and devastation' BAFTA RANT Stacey's latest video comes after her "out of character" Bafta rant. Last month, the star came under fire when she posted a clip and vented about not winning an award. Stacey admitted her "upset and devastation" over the loss to Rob and Rylan's Grand Tour in the Factual Entertainment category. But not only did this rile fans, Stacey also risked the wrath of the BBC. According to the Daily Mail, the video left executives at the Beeb stunned, and even blindsided her own PR team. 5 Stacey recently came under fire after she posted a video about her Bafta loss Credit: Instagram A source told the outlet: "Stacey is seen as normal, relatable and a good laugh. "So when she put her video up on Monday morning there was some horror here. It felt entitled and was all very out of character. "Admittedly, she did say she came out to share her frustration in support of her behind-the-scenes team who she wanted to pay tribute to. But there are other behind-the-camera teams on other shows who all work hard, too. "You can't wonder if the gloss might start to come off for Stacey. It would be a disaster for the BBC, they are hanging so much on her." In her Bafta rant, Stacey told her followers: 'We didn't win a Bafta. And I know I'm supposed to take it gracefully like a champ but, I'll be honest, I'm devastated! 'I'm not handling it very well, I'm not taking it very gracefully - I'm devastated! I'm devastated for our whole team, like I'm so gutted for our team.' Stacey praised the efforts behind-the-scenes of Sort Your Life Out, and described the programme as tough to make and expressing pride in her colleagues' dedication. Stacey added: 'Everyone got dressed up and was really hopeful, I think because they work so hard. It's not an easy show to make… and they so deserve the Bafta. "The Sort Your Life Out team deserved a Bafta and I'm devastated. "I'm not saying that everyone else didn't deserve their Baftas, they absolutely did… but I'm just gutted for my whole Sort Your Life Out family because I feel like they deserved a Bafta. I'm gonna say it - I'm gutted!'

Jaffa Cakes unveil brand new flavour — but fans say 'not a chance'
Jaffa Cakes have always been a pretty divisive snack – for starters, they're a cake that is shelved in the biscuit aisle at the supermarket. Then there's the fact that they're made with dark chocolate and contain an orange jelly-like filling, neither of which will be everyone's cup of tea. But now the brand has decided to ramp things up a notch, launching a new flavour that's proving even more controversial than the original. The iconic product has been given a 'swicy' (that's sweet and spicy) makeover and now comes in a Hot Honey option. It keeps the signature sponge and dark chocolate crackly top, but swaps out the filling for a golden honey centre with a hint of chilli. Yes, spicy Jaffa Cakes are now a thing and according to McVities they offer an 'unexpectedly delicious combo you didn't know you were craving'. But social media users don't seem quite as excited by the prospect… Jaffa Cake fans haven't held back with their thoughts on the limited-edition Hot Honey treat, with some going as far as to call it 'a crime against Britain'. 'They will do everything but not a white chocolate Jaffa Cake,' an anonymous user posted in response to a snap of them on Facebook, as Phil Cranage branded the hot honey trend 'b******s', and Jamie Burns asked: 'WTF man?' Scott Clarke thought the new product sounded 'horrible', and Christopher Bartlett agreed, writing: 'Not a chance mate'. 'Noo leave Jaffa Cakes alone,' proclaimed Zoe Wallis, but Mel White was a little more diplomatic, commenting: 'That sounds like an acquired taste.' On Instagram, @phoebelouiseshepherd branded the swicy treat 'rank', while @zoemuriel asked in disbelief if it was 'AI'. Others wondered if it might be an April Fools joke and some simply posted green-faced vomiting emojis, letting the image do the talking for them. Not everyone is against the new version though, @newfoodsportteruk reviewed them, saying: 'To me they taste just like a normal Jaffa cake but with a little bit of a kick, not much of a spice just a little tingle in your throat afterwards, however they are nice & different and would buy again!' They then gave the Jaffa Cakes a 7.5 out of 10 rating. Abigail Olivia and Simon Garnett admitted they were both 'curious' to try the new flavour and Nick Gordon was on the same page, adding: 'Mmm will have to try these as the Cola Bottle ones were epic. The best of all imo.' Jessica Woolfrey, marketing manager for Jaffa Cakes, says: 'At Jaffa Cakes, we're known for doing things a little differently. As the only cake in the biscuit aisle, it makes sense that our newest flavour brings an unexpected twist. More Trending 'We're super excited to introduce Hot Honey Flavour to the Jaffa Cakes family – tapping into the viral 'swicy' trend with a perfectly balanced sweet-meets-heat flavour.' Currently thew new Jaffa Cakes are only available to buy in Asda stores nationwide and they cost £1.50 for a box of 10. View More » However, at the end of July the product will be rolling out more widely to other supermarkets and convenience stores, so keep an eye out for them. Do you have a story to share? All the retailers Nintendo Switch 2 is still available to order online
Tech fans have waited eight years for an update on the original Nintendo Switch Console. Gaming fans will be over the moon today as the highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 has finally launched. While some shoppers are waiting for their pre-order device to come in the post, many fans said they struggled to snap up a console before they sold out. Now that launch day is here, many online retailers have put the handheld device back in stock. However, shoppers will need to be quick as they are running on a 'first come, first served' basis. In terms of an upgrade from the original console, the Switch 2 features a larger screen, new games, better frame rates and other new features. Shoppers have the choice of either buying the Nintendo Switch 2 Console by itself for £395.99 or paying a bit more to get the Mario Kart World Bundle for £429.99. Many people enjoy the Switch device because of its versatility. Shoppers can either place the display screen in its docking device and play their game through their TV for a family gaming experience, or attach the Joy-Con controllers to the sides and play as a handheld device. Some of the new games that shoppers can buy include Donkey Kong Bananza, Street Fighter 6, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild in Switch 2 editions and Super Mario Party Jamboree. In terms of in store sales, Asda is said to be selling the new device with the exclusive Mario Kart World game included in 80 of its shops across the UK - nine of which are in Scotland. If Scots wanted to grab the popular device at the shops to start game play straight away, they would need to go to either the Asda Living Glasgow Fort, Bridge of Dee, Clydebank, Edinburgh, Galashiels, Hamilton, Milton of Craigie, Motherwell or Toryglen stores. For those who are happy to order online and wait a day or two for the console to arrive, many online retailers have restocked the device, including: Amazon Argos Currys EE Very Amazon The Nintendo Switch 2 has already been dubbed one of Amazon's best sellers despite only selling as pre-order before June 5. Other deals include saving 30 per cent on a Joy-Con charging station or 20 per cent on the official Nintendo Switch 2 carrying case and screen protector. Shoppers also have the choice to pay only £16 per month on the console for 36 months. However, in the long run this offer will mean shoppers need to pay more as the total amount would end up being £576 by the end of the contract.
