Taylor Shumaker, Keagan Rothrock help Florida beat Georgia 5-2, advance to WCWS
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Taylor Shumaker had three hits and three RBIs — including a two-run home run in the fifth inning — and Keagan Rothrock pitched a complete game on Sunday to help Florida beat Georgia 5-2 to win the best-of-three Gainesville Super Regional and clinch a berth in the Women's College World Series.
No. 3 seed Florida (48-15) will make its second consecutive trip to the WCWS and its 13th since 2008.
Rothrock (16-6) gave up two runs — one earned — on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
Kendra Falby drew a lead-off walk in the first inning, stole second and then scored when Shumaker hit a single up the middle.
Ava Brown walked on four consecutive pitches to lead off the fifth inning and scored when Rylee Holtorf hit a two-out two-run homer. Falby followed with a bunt single before Shumaker hit the seventh pitch of the at-bat over the wall in right field to give the Gators a 5-0 lead.
Tyler Ellison reached on an error to lead off the seventh and Jaydyn Goodwin followed with a home run that made it 5-2.
The game was delayed about an hour in the middle of the fourth due to lightning in the area.
Georgia (35-23) beat the Gators 2-1 on Saturday to avoid elimination.

Lions add veteran Trystan Colon to offensive line that lost center Frank Ragnow to retirement
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have added depth on their depleted offensive line, signing veteran Trystan Colon. Detroit waived/injured cornerback Divaad Wilson on Wednesday to clear a roster spot. The Lions lost their starting center to retirement earlier this week. Frank Ragnow, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, called it a career after seven seasons with a slew of injuries. Colon has started at least one game in each of his five NFL seasons. He started in a career-high seven games and played in a career-high 17 games last year with the Arizona Cardinals. Colon played center earlier in his career with the Baltimore Ravens. Simone Inzaghi signs to coach Saudi club Al-Hilal after leaving Inter Milan
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Simone Inzaghi took over as head coach of Al-Hilal on Wednesday, a day after leaving Inter Milan and two weeks before the Saudi Arabian club's first game at the Club World Cup. Inzaghi signed a two-year deal after Al-Hilal lured him with an offer of reportedly more than 20 million euros ($23 million) per season. 'The Italian genius is here,' the Saudi club said in a social media post. Inter was routed 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final last Saturday, marking the most lopsided defeat in the 70-year history of major European finals. The 49-year-old Inzaghi coached Inter to the Serie A title last year and was also in charge when the Nerazzurri lost the 2023 Champions League title to Manchester City. He was at Inter for four years. Al-Hilal opens its Club World Cup campaign against Real Madrid on June 18 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
