PMRDA to spend Rs 3,000cr to build road network linking major highways in Pune city
Pune: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has announced a Rs3,000-crore road network project to link key highways and decongest Pune's major traffic corridors.

Officials said the network would offer direct connectivity between Satara Road, Ahilyanagar Road, Solapur highway, Nashik highway, and the Pune-Mumbai highway, while improving road access to peripheral villages and emerging townships.
PMRDA commissioner Yogesh Mhase told TOI that the project aims to have proper roads connecting to all highways in the district. "We have zeroed in on all the roads that connect to the highways.
We will undertake the repairs phase-wise," he said.
Officials of the development authority said construction or repair works are undertaken at various spots along different segments.
"Link roads connecting major highways are being prioritised. We have approved work in 20 to 25 villages," a senior PMRDA official said.
Most of the new roads will be constructed using cement concrete to improve durability, the official said.
"Each road will be equipped with stormwater drainage lines and underground utility ducts to prevent future digging and ensure smooth movement during the monsoon," the official said.
"Widths have been finalised keeping future traffic volumes in mind. Utility shifting and technical surveys are being conducted simultaneously to avoid delays," the official added.
The first phase of the project includes strengthening existing roads that are already part of PMRDA's regional development plan.

The work is being executed through multiple packages, with land acquisition being fast-tracked.
Officials said the internal grid of roads would function as alternate routes for traffic that crowd the city's arterial roads and highways. Once completed, the network is expected to cut travel time for daily commuters and heavy vehicles entering and exiting Pune.
"The aim is to reduce pressure on primary corridors by creating seamless links between them.
This will also help people living in peripheral areas travel more efficiently," the official said.
Inner ring road alignment to be examined by experts
PMRDA is reviewing a request by MP Supriya Sule to shift the alignment of the proposed inner ring road by around 200m in certain locations to avoid affecting residential areas in villages.
"A final decision will be taken after technical experts examine the proposal," a senior PMRDA official said.
Sule raised the issue during a meeting with the PMRDA commissioner earlier this month stating that it would affect the villagers in the area. She said while she was not against the project, a slight re-alignment would help save the houses of the villagers in Haveli taluka.
The Rs14,200-crore inner ring road project spans 83.1km and is designed to provide circular connectivity between major hubs, including Lohegaon airport, Hinjewadi IT Park and Chakan MIDC.
The authority already submitted a request to the Pune district collector's office last week to speed up land acquisition for the inner ring road.
The ring road is expected to divert heavy traffic away from the city's core areas and support future infrastructure needs.

48 hours after Ghaziabad shooting, cops yet to track key suspect
Ghaziabad: Nearly 48 hours after businessman Rahul Dagar was shot dead outside a highrise in Ghaziabad's Raj Nagar Extension, cops have searched more than 20 possible hideouts of the suspects and detained five persons for questioning, but are yet to arrest his business partner, the key accused in the case, or the six others named in the FIR. Senior officials said they are keeping a watch on airports to ensure the accused don't leave the country. Six gunmen had come in a car and shot Rahul, who owns a hotel at Haldwani in Uttarakhand, and his nephew Ashish just outside their society, Classic Residency, around 9.30 pm on Sunday. Rahul died on the spot after a bullet hit him in the stomach. Ashish, who was hit on the leg, continues to be under treatment. Rahul's brother-in-law Avinash, who was also present at the spot and assaulted by the criminals, had identified the hotelier's business partner Nagendra Chaudhary and three other attackers—Mohit Chaudhary, Ritesh Bindal and a man who goes by the name Mantri—in his complaint. He claimed Nagendra and his brother Manish were Rahul's business partners and had a fallout with him over managing the finances of their hotel, Shiva Palace, and had even threatened him a few days before the murder. "Nagendra, Mohit, Mantri, Ritesh and two other men pulled up outside the society in a car. First, they assaulted Rahul and Ashish. They turned to me as I started shouting for help. Then, right before my eyes, Nagendra and Mohit shot at Rahul and Ashish. Rahul had immediately collapsed to the ground, but Mohit sat on his chest and tried to strangle him," the complaint filed by Avinash stated. On Tuesday, ACP Nandgram Poonam Mishra said police have reviewed footage of CCTV cameras installed near the commercial complex outside the society. The officer said one of the men, Mohit Chaudhary, can be seen firing at Rahul in one of the feeds. It also showed him trying to strangle Rahul, even as he lay bleeding on the ground. "Six of the accused are absconding. More than five teams are looking for them. We detained Ritesh Bindal on Monday. He was called in for questioning again on Tuesday. The man has multiple businesses, like real estate and electronics, and has an office in Classic Residency's commercial area. His call details show that he was at the crime spot on Sunday evening when Rahul Dagar was murdered. We are trying to ascertain his role in the case," the ACP said. Earlier, police told TOI that Ritesh had filed an FIR against Rahul and Avinash on May 31, a day before the shooting, accusing the two men of barging into his house with weapons and misbehaving with his family. The FIR was lodged under BNS sections 333 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 351 (3) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace). Besides Ritesh, four other persons have been detained for questioning, too, police said. A senior police officer told TOI that Mohit frequently travelled to Duba,i and cops have alerted the Airports Authority of India about the suspect. Since Monday, police have also searched more than 20 places across Delhi-NCR, but no arrests have been made yet. While Rahul's business partner Nagendra is the key suspect in the case, the FIR also names his brother Manish and five others: Mohit, Ritesh, Mantri, and two unknown persons. The case has been file under BNS sections 103 (murder), 109 (attempt to murder), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 190 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 191 (2) (rioting), 191 (3) (rioting, armed with deadly weapon).

PM Modi increased Kerala's railway budget to Rs 3,042 crore: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw
New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government has increased Kerala's railway budget from an average of Rs 372 Crore (2009-14) to Rs 3,042 crore in the financial year 2025-26, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday. 'PM Narendra Modi Ji has increased Kerala's railway budget from an average Rs372 Cr (2009-14) to Rs3,042 Cr in FY 2025-26. We are working on 3rd and 4th line from North to South Kerala, so that both passengers and cargo can move by rail,' Vaishnaw said in a post X. Vaishnaw said that he discussed key projects with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and sought his support for land acquisition, especially for Angamaly-Erumeli railway project and Road Over Bridges (ROB) and Road Under Bridges (RUB) being sanctioned. The Angamaly-Erumeli railway project, also known as Sabari rail project was first proposed in the Railway Budget of 1997-98. The land acquisition for the project was completed too. The Kerala CM has earlier said that the expansion of the Sabari rail project would provide a significant boost to Kerala's development, while also suggesting that it could be extended in the future to connect Vizhinjam. In December, an official statement from the Kerala CM's office said that the project would be implemented in two phases with an expanded approach, with the state government requesting the Centre's approval, and 50 per cent of the cost of the project will be borne by the state government. The section's plan included the construction of two flyovers and two underpasses. However, land acquisition notifications have now been issued for the next 70 km. A letter from the Railways dated 26.09.2019 informed the state government that the project had been frozen, leading to a halt in further construction activities, including the flyovers. Although the project initially began with full funding from the Railways, on January 7, 2021, the Kerala Government conveyed to the Central Government its readiness to bear 50 per cent of the project cost, then estimated at Rs 2,815 crore, through Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). Housing federation pushes for series of changes in revised society by-laws
Pune: From EV-ready parking provisions and streamlined redevelopment rules to digital governance and pet policies, Maharashtra State Co-operative Housing and Apartment Federation has submitted a fresh set of demands to be incorporated in the upcoming model bye-laws 2025 for cooperative housing societies. These demands have been placed before a state-appointed committee headed by the cooperation commissioner, Deepak Tawre, as govt moves ahead with finalising draft rules under the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act, 1960. "The current set of model bye-laws — last revised in 2014 — has not kept pace with legal, civic, and technological developments. These amendments are long overdue," said Shreeprasad Parab, expert director of the federation. He said housing societies today face complex issues — whether it is redevelopment, digital transparency or pet-related disputes — that did not exist a decade ago. "The 2025 bye-laws must be designed to address these realities and anticipate future ones." The push for updating the bye-laws gained traction after state govt in April published long-pending draft rules under the Act and invited suggestions from the public. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Descubra ofertas de voos imperdíveis Voos | Anúncios de Pesquisa Saiba Mais The federation formally wrote to the commissioner seeking a revision of the bye-laws, after which a committee was formed. Officials said the committee has already held three rounds of meetings and is examining suggestions from multiple stakeholders. In 2019, state added chapter XIII-B to the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act to address housing society-specific needs. However, the absence of corresponding rules and updated bye-laws delayed its implementation. "This is an opportunity to modernise how 1.25 lakh housing societies operate in Maharashtra," said Meera Soni, a member of a housing society in Kondhwa. "More than half of state's cooperative societies are residential. The new bye-laws must reflect how people live today — digitally, densely, and with evolving civic expectations." Officials in the state cooperation department said the draft rules are likely to be approved in June. The revised bye-laws, once finalised, will follow shortly after and are to be cleared by the state cooperation commissioner. Tawre told TOI that the committee is reviewing all the points raised by the federation. Federation members said the model bye-laws 2025 could serve as a national benchmark for cooperative housing governance, ushering in clarity, inclusivity and future-ready mechanisms for millions of residents.
