Turkiye-Iran air travel partially resumes after 15-day hiatus: Minister

Istanbul, June 28 (UNI) Air travel between Turkiye and Iran partially resumed yesterday after being suspended for 15 days due to the Iran-Israel conflict, Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said.
Uraloglu noted that flights from the Iranian eastern city of Mashhad to Istanbul, operated by Iranian carriers, is resuming on June 27.
"This marks a partial reopening of air travel between Turkiye and Iran after a 15-day hiatus," he said on social media platform X.
Uraloglu added that the airspace in the cities of Tehran and Tabriz, located in western Iran, will remain closed, and the restriction will continue until July 2.
The minister noted that talks are ongoing with Iranian authorities to allow Turkish planes stranded in Iran to return with special permits. "Efforts are continuing to fully normalize flights with Iran and bring the grounded planes back to Turkiye as soon as possible," he said.
Uraloglu had previously stated that seven Turkish airline planes were stranded in Iran due to the airspace closure.
Iran's official news agency IRNA reported that Iran has postponed the full reopening of its airspace until today afternoon.
Iran closed its airspace on June 13 as Israel launched airstrikes on Tehran and other areas. Following a 12-day areial conflict, a ceasefire between the two sides was achieved on June 24.

Life in Iran after the strikes: Executions, arrests and paranoia

As soon as U.S. and Israeli bombs stopped raining down on Iran, the country's theocratic leaders and the security forces emerged from their bunkers and began waging a new campaign—this time against their own people, targeting alleged spies, dissidents and opposition figures. Checkpoints have sprung up across Tehran as the authorities seek to reassert control and hunt people they suspect helped Israel's attacks on air defenses, nuclear sites, and top officers and atomic scientists in a 12-day air war that exposed the state's inability to defend itself. As the smell of high explosives hung in the air of the capital, police and intelligence officers arrested hundreds of people, and are detaining more each day. Armed paramilitary police are patrolling the streets. People are being stopped and having their cars, phones and computers searched. The government announced the hasty execution of at least six men. 'The situation for Iranian people is more dangerous now than before the war," said Narges Mohammadi, a Nobel Prize-winning Iranian human-rights activist who is one of the country's highest profile opposition figures. She said the regime would do what it takes to consolidate power and is cracking down. More than 1,000 people have been detained over the past two weeks for allegedly aiding Israel, according to Amnesty International. Esmail Qaani—who leads the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' elite Quds Force and was reported to have been killed—appeared at a pro-regime rally in Tehran hours after the cease-fire began, according to a video posted by Revolutionary Guard-affiliated Tasnim News Agency. Wearing a black beret, he appeared on a busy street crowded with regime supporters who waved Iranian flags. The Shia Islamist regime has also stepped up efforts to enforce the regime's strict rules governing what it considers to be appropriate behavior and dress. 'The morality police are back," said a 44-year-old woman who said she had fled Tehran during the war. 'The police even stopped us and questioned us, because the socks of the woman with me were too see-through." Israeli and U.S. airstrikes marked the first time Iran had come under sustained foreign attack on its own soil since an eight-year war with Iraq in the 1980s. The capital, Tehran, emerged as a primary war zone, and the Revolutionary Guard found itself in the crosshairs. Throughout the strikes, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei sheltered in a bunker outside Tehran, unreachable by anyone but his closest allies, according to an Arab official briefed on the matter and an adviser to the Revolutionary Guard. His isolation complicated talks in Geneva with European nations seeking to mediate an end to the war, Arab officials said. On Thursday, he spoke to the nation for the first time since June 19, seeking to play down the damage from the attack and rally the nation around the Iranian flag. 'The Islamic Republic was victorious, and in return dealt a harsh blow to America's face," he said in a hoarse voice. The attacks showed how deeply Israel's Mossad intelligence agency had infiltrated Iran. They slipped explosive drones and other munitions into Iran, where they were used by teams of agents to take out air defenses and kill high profile targets. 'The Israelis organized penetrations, transfers of bombs and explosives, and recruited people from within," Mohammad Amin-Nejad, Iran's ambassador to France, told French broadcaster France 24 last week. It happened 'right before our eyes. There were vulnerabilities." The atmosphere in Tehran remains tense as people start heading back to work and trying to resume normal life, residents reached by phone said. Iran's state-controlled media report new arrests and weapons seizures every day. Authorities said Tuesday they had filed 24 cases against alleged Israeli spies in Hamedan, a western Iranian city whose air base was heavily damaged on the first day of the strikes. The suspects 'were sending information, photos, and videos to the enemy," a media report said. Access to the internet was restored Wednesday after being cut off for more than a week. But an official warning not to use messaging services such as WhatsApp was still in effect. The regime says it fears Israeli spies could hack into conversations and gain information. On Wednesday, Iran's intelligence ministry told residents to report any suspicious calls. Earlier, it passed out a set of tips about how to spot a spy. The guidance warned citizens to watch their neighbors for comings and goings at odd hours; heavy use of masks, hats and sunglasses; and signs like metallic banging inside their homes. Spies, the tips said, might live in houses with 'curtains that remain closed even during daylight hours." The domestic crackdown is adding to the widespread feeling of anxiety caused by the war. Dozens of Israeli strikes pounded Tehran, taking aim at missile and nuclear facilities, as well as symbols of the regime and its repression, including the infamous Evin Prison, where political prisoners are held. Tehran's affluent northern neighborhoods, home to many of the targeted nuclear scientists and senior commanders, were some of the worst-hit in the air campaign, rattling the city's elite. Tehran experienced some of the most intense bombardments of the war just hours before the cease-fire came into effect. Residents spent many of their nights awake, sometimes watching the war unfold from their balconies and rooftops, as missiles flashed across the sky followed by explosions and fires. Iran's health ministry said more than 600 people were killed and more than 4,800 injured during the war, according to state-run media, which didn't say how many were from the armed forces. While Iran remained defiant, it took precautions by transporting some of its most precious assets abroad. After Israel began targeting some energy infrastructure, Iran began transferring large amounts of stored crude to Asia, said Homayoun Falakshahi, head of crude-oil analysis at data commodities company Kpler. As of June 22, the quantity of stored crude at Kharg Island—Iran's main point of oil exports—had dropped, while volumes of Iranian oil stored near Singapore and China had risen, he said. The roughly five million barrels likely transferred abroad were worth about $375 million at oil prices prevailing at the time. Last week, Iran flew at least four civilian aircraft to the Omani capital of Muscat for safekeeping. One of the planes included Iran's presidential Airbus A340, which landed in Muscat on June 18, according to flight trackers. Arab officials were surprised to learn the planes were empty of passengers. Instead, they said, they carried cash and assets, which Iranians weren't allowed to offload because of sanctions. The planes themselves were also valuable as emergency exits for top officials. The precautions show the level of pressure on Iran's rulers during the war. They now have to find a way forward with no control of their own airspace and no help from their militias. A crippling burden of sanctions will make rebuilding even harder. 'This was one of the most serious security breaches in the regime's history, but it wasn't a turning point. The leadership held, the streets stayed quiet, and the system proved again that it's built not for popularity, but for survival," said Narges Bajoghli, associate professor at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. 'Iran's system is built to withstand shocks," Bajoghli said. 'The regime hasn't collapsed. It's adapting, and younger IRGC and paramilitary cadres are stepping in—many of them more hard-line than those who were killed." Coal imports from Russia highest in two years in May: Report

India, one of the key buyers of Russian thermal coal , increased its imports from Russia in May to the highest level in two years, business daily Kommersant reported on Friday. The Russian thermal coal deliveries to India rose by 52 per cent in May 2025 compared to April, reaching a two-year high of 1.3 million metric tons, reported Kommersant quoting a business review by the Russian Centre for Price Indices (CCI). Records reveal since June 2023, monthly exports from Russia have not exceeded 1 million tons. Analysts interviewed by the Daily attribute this trend to the flexible pricing strategies adopted by Russian coal exporters, as well as the quality of the fuel itself. While a significant increase in Russia's market share in India is unlikely due to rising domestic production and the high cost of logistics. However, maintaining current shipment levels is entirely feasible, it said, voicing the opinion of experts. India's total thermal coal imports in May increased seasonally by 10 per cent month-over-month to 17.4 million tons, the highest level since June 2024, the report said citing data from BigMint. Russia accounted for approximately 7.5 per cent of India's total coal purchases. Indonesia remained the country's top supplier, expanding shipments by 16 per cent over the previous month to 9.8 million tons. Indian coal imports from South Africa remained at April level of 3.4 million tons, while rose by 43 per cent from the US to 2 million metric tons. Russian coal exporters most likely increased volumes within the bounds of existing contracts, Director of the RF Centre for Price Indices (CCI) Evgeny Grachev believes. "In India, the monsoon season began earlier this year, which means hydropower generation will put pressure on thermal generation and coal consumption," Grachev noted. According to Nariman Taiketayev, Director of the Corporate Ratings Group at National Credit Ratings (NCR), favourable market conditions prompted India to reduce its imports of lower-calorific-value Indonesian coal in favour of higher-grade Russian coal, which is offered at competitive prices. Russian suppliers, he added, are generally more amenable to flexible pricing. He also emphasised that India's future demand for coal will depend on a combination of price dynamics and weather-related factors. However, a stronger rouble and volatility in Iran could dampen the spirit of Russian coal exporters, who were already hit by uncertainty during the 12-day Israel-Iran war. PTI

Nifty futures rollover climbs to 79.53%, signals trader confidence ahead: Sudeep Shah

Markets finally broke out of their five-week-long consolidation phase, supported by improving global sentiment, easing geopolitical tensions, and renewed buying interest from foreign institutional investors (FIIs) in the latter part of the week. The rebound followed a cautious start, with broader participation seen midweek as sentiment turned positive. ADVERTISEMENT Indices gained traction as concerns over Iran-Israel tensions began to subside, prompting a recovery in global risk appetite. As a result, benchmark indices closed the week on a strong note, with the Nifty ending at 25,637.80 and the Sensex at 84,058.90—both near their respective weekly highs. With this, Analyst Sudeep Shah, Deputy Vice President and Head of Technical & Derivatives Research, SBI Securities interacted with ET Markets regarding the outlook on Nifty and Bank Nifty along with an index strategy for the upcoming week. Following are the edited excerpts from his chat: The squeeze sets the stage—the breakout steals the show. For 31 trading sessions, the Nifty moved in a narrow consolidation range, building silent pressure with every passing day. Like an audience holding its breath before the climax, the market was coiling, waiting for a trigger. That moment finally arrived this week, as Nifty broke free from its range-bound structure, delivering a sharp upside move that ended the week above the 25,600 mark, with a 2.09% importantly, this move led to the highest weekly close since September 2024, confirming that the breakout wasn't just symbolic—it was structural. On the weekly chart, the index has formed a sizeable bullish candle, a visual expression of strong momentum and renewed buying conviction. ADVERTISEMENT This breakout was not an isolated event. It comes with improving breadth across sectors such as Financial Services, Private Banks, Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, and Auto, many of which have also seen breakout patterns of their own. Backed by strong technical indicators and firm sectoral participation, Nifty now looks poised to extend its northward journey in the coming weeks and is likely to test the level of 25,800, followed by 26,100 in the short term. While on the downside, the zone of 25,400-25,350 is likely to provide a cushion in case of any immediate decline. ADVERTISEMENT Throughout the June series, Nifty futures largely remained confined within a narrow trading band of just 732 points, reflecting a phase of indecisiveness and range-bound activity. Since mid-May, the index has been oscillating in a tight consolidation zone between 25,307 to 24,575 levels, suggesting a lack of clear directional bias among market participants. Notably, during these 31 trading sessions, the price action was characterized by frequent gap-up or gap-down openings, indicating elevated overnight volatility driven by trade war concerns, the escalation of war in the Middle East, and institutional flows. However, despite these volatile starts, the intraday moves largely lacked sustained momentum, reflecting traders' hesitancy to commit in either direction. ADVERTISEMENT However, on the expiry day, the Nifty futures finally staged a decisive breakout from this prolonged consolidation phase and ended the June series above the 25,500 mark, registering a healthy gain of 2.69%. This breakout not only signals a potential shift in short-term sentiment but also sets a positive tone for the July series. From a derivatives perspective, the rollover of Nifty Futures increased to 79.53% in June, slightly higher than May's 79.10% and also above the three-month average of 79.24%, indicating continued participation and positioning by traders heading into the new number of shares rolled surged to 162 lakhs compared to 149 lakh last month. However, the rollover cost dipped to 0.25%, below the three-month average of 0.43%. ADVERTISEMENT Bank Nifty Futures traded in a narrow 1,800-point range during the June series, marking the second straight month of muted price action. However, it gained momentum on the expiry day, closing above 57,200 with a 2.48% gain. From a derivatives standpoint, the rollover of Bank Nifty Futures declined to 75.75% in the June series — a noticeable drop compared to May's 79.29% and also below the three-month average of 76.70%. This suggests a relatively cautious stance among traders and possibly a lighter carry-forward of positions into the July to this, the rollover cost dipped to 0.07%, significantly lower than the three-month average of 0.32%, reflecting a cautious rollover with limited aggressive long Nifty has been displaying notable strength lately, backed by a series of compelling technical indicators. Most prominently, the index has registered fresh all-time highs over the last two trading sessions—clearly outperforming the broader Nifty index, which remains nearly 2.5% below its own record high. This relative outperformance reflects strong sectoral leadership from banking stocks. A key bullish trigger has been the recent Stage-2 cup pattern breakout on the daily chart—a well-known continuation formation that typically precedes a strong upward trend. Furthermore, Bank Nifty continues to trade above all its crucial short-term and long-term moving averages, signaling well-supported price action. Momentum indicators such as RSI and MACD remain firmly in bullish territory on both daily and weekly timeframes, highlighting sustained strength and trend acceleration. In summary, the alignment of breakout patterns, moving average support, and strong momentum across timeframes suggests that Bank Nifty is likely to maintain its bullish trajectory. As per the measure rule of cup pattern, the upside target is placed at 59,000 level. While, on the downside, the zone of 56,800-56,700 is likely to provide the cushion in case of any immediate decline. They have now turned net buyers for the fourth consecutive month, signaling a steady return of confidence in Indian equities. This sustained inflow reflects their growing conviction in the strength and resilience of the domestic market, especially amid global uncertainties and policy in the derivatives segment, the FII long-short ratio in index futures has climbed to 38.43%, marking one of the highest levels seen in the recent past. A rising long-short ratio indicates that FIIs are increasingly building long positions—a bullish sign that suggests they are anticipating further upside in the near combination of consistent cash market inflows and a favorable derivative positioning reinforces the broader sentiment that FIIs are aligning themselves with India's structural growth story and short-term momentum. If this trend continues, it could provide further support to the market's upward trajectory. Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Oil & Gas, and Nifty Infrastructure have all registered horizontal trendline breakouts on the daily chart. This is a bullish development, indicating a shift from consolidation to potential upside momentum. Nifty Auto has given a downward sloping trendline breakout, another positive sign. The daily RSI is in the bullish zone and trending higher, reinforcing the likelihood of continued strength in this space. Nifty India Tourism is on the verge of breaking out from a symmetrical triangle pattern on the daily timeframe. All major moving averages and momentum indicators are aligned positively. A sustained move above the 9300 level could trigger a fresh bullish leg in the index. In addition to the above, Nifty Healthcare, Pharma, and Metal indices are also showing signs of relative strength and are expected to outperform in the near term, backed by improving price structures and momentum indicators Currently, the Nifty Metal is trading above its short and long-term moving averages, which is a bullish sign. Further, the daily RSI is in bullish territory, and it is in rising mode, which is a bullish sign. However, on Friday, the index has witnessed minor profit booking after reaching a high of 9,678. Going ahead, any sustainable move above the level of 9700 will lead to a sharp upside rally in metal space. APOLLOHOSP: On a daily scale, the stock has given an Ascending Triangle pattern breakout along with robust volume. Currently, the stock is trading above all the moving averages, and these averages are in rising mode. The Daily RSI has also given a 2-month consolidation breakout, which suggests pickup in upside momentum. Hence, we recommend accumulating the stock in the zone of Rs 7,320-7,280 level with a stoploss of Rs 7,080. On the upside, it is likely to test the level of Rs 7,750 in the short term. Technically, Hindustan Petroleum, HDFC Life, Ultratech Cement, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, Indigo, Ambuja Cement, LT Foods, and Glaxo are looking good.
