KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- A total of 534 Kolej Yayasan Felda (KYF) graduates from the 2023/2024 session received their scrolls at the 26th KYF Convocation Ceremony held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here today.
Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the graduates were awarded the Malaysian Skills Diploma and Malaysian Skills Certificate in various fields, including Food Preparation and Manufacturing Services, Pastry and Bakery Management, and Administrative Management.
He said this year's convocation ceremony was even more meaningful as it coincided with three national-level mega events held under the Mega 3 Dimensi Carnival (KM3D).
'KM3D is a combination of Felda Settlers Day, the Rural Entrepreneur Carnival, and the One District One Industry Showcase. This highlights the synergy between educational development, entrepreneurship, and the country's rural industrial heritage,' he said after the ceremony.
The event was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Ahmad Shabery said that as a skills-oriented educational institution, KYF remains committed to producing competent, competitive and career-ready graduates through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)-based programmes tailored to industry needs and supported by various training initiatives.
'Among the training offered are full-time programmes at KYF, the Academy in Industry Programme in collaboration with industry partners, the Certification Programme through Recognition of Prior Achievement, and the Modular Programme for various segments of society.
'This effort reflects Yayasan Felda's commitment to expanding access to skills education for all groups, including school leavers, youth and experienced individuals,' he said, adding that 31,633 KYF graduates have entered the workforce across various sectors to date.
He said Felda has, since its inception, served as a catalyst for social mobility and education among rural communities, including through the establishment of KYF.

Cross-border insolvency issue tops Asean Law Forum

Legal commitment: Azalina (centre) states that the forum will see Asean law ministers commit to legal reforms. — Bernama KUALA LUMPUR: The issue of cross-border insolvency is set to be one of the main highlights at the Asean Law Forum (ALF) 2025, which will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Aug 19 to 21, says Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) said cross-border insolvency is considered a solution to business-related issues, leveraging alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, rather than relying solely on court proceedings. 'When Asean countries cooperate with each other, (whether involving) companies or governments, and encounter obstacles in certain matters, they can turn to international platforms for mediation or cross-border insolvency proceedings,' she told reporters at the ALF 2025 pre-launch ceremony at the Parliament building yesterday, Bernama reported. The forum, which will bring together international law experts and practitioners, is expected to address regional and international legal issues such as international mediation, online security, cybercrime, human rights in business, and reforms in criminal and commercial law. Azalina also said the forum will witness the adoption of a joint statement by Asean Ministers of Law on the Empowerment of International Commercial Arbitration and Mediation, symbolising Asean nations' commitment to legal reform. 'This further strengthens cooperation, reflecting Asean's core vision based on the rule of law for sustainable economic growth and regional integration,' she added. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the forum on Aug 21. Azalina said the forum marks a new chapter in the efforts of the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department to strengthen the nation's legal framework, in line with Malaysia's chairmanship of Asean this year.

Diplomatic milestone: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, accompanied by Anwar, at the royal sending-off ceremony in Subang for His Majesty's historic state visit to Russia. — Bernama PM: Russia visit reaffirms monarchy's diplomatic role KUALA LUMPUR: The state visit to Russia by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, marks a new chapter in bilateral relations between the two nations. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the visit, which takes place from today until Aug 10 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, is expected to enhance strategic cooperation across key sectors. These include bilateral trade, investment, higher education, technology and innovation, as well as people-to-people ties. 'Malaysia has the potential to attract new investments and advanced technologies from Russia, particularly in the fields of energy, aerospace, defence and smart agriculture. '(All of this is) in line with the Madani Economy framework that emphasises competitiveness, sustainability and shared prosperity,' Anwar said in a Facebook post yesterday, Bernama reported. More significantly, he noted that the visit reaffirms the role of the Malaysian monarchy as a respected pillar of national diplomacy, enhancing Malaysia's image as a neutral, open and progressive nation on the global stage. Anwar also described the visit as a historic milestone, with Sultan Ibrahim becoming the first Malaysian Head of State to set foot in Russia for a state visit since diplomatic relations were established in 1967. 'This reflects His Majesty's role as a symbol of national unity and a strategic contributor to strengthening Malaysia's international relations,' he added. Earlier today, Anwar accompanied Sultan Ibrahim at the royal send-off ceremony at the Royal Malaysian Air Force base in Subang. Russia is Malaysia's ninth-largest trading partner among European nations and ranks 28th globally, with bilateral trade valued at RM11.46bil (US$2.48bil) in 2024. 89.6pc oil palm plantation area certified

MELAKA: A total of 5.03 million hectares or 89.6 per cent of oil palm plantation area in Malaysia has been certified under the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification scheme up to June 30, said Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Chan Fong Hin. He said the achievement reflects the continued commitment of Malaysia's palm oil industry to adopt sustainable practices that align with internationally recognised standards. "The MSPO certification initiative also enforces strict standards to ensure that oil palm plantation companies and smallholders are not involved in any form of forced labour. "To this end, the MSPO requires certified entities to comply with the Employment Act 1955, which stipulates that workers cannot be compelled to perform work without their consent," he said when opening the "Know Your Rights, Do It Right" Programme Series 1/2025 here yesterday. The programme was attended by ministry secretary-general Datuk Yusran Shah Mohd Yusof. Chan said the programme was implemented by the ministry to provide the agri-commodity industry with clear and accurate information on labour issues, particularly those involving foreign workers. He noted that currently, more than 75 per cent of the approximately 280,000 workers in oil palm plantations are foreigners, with the majority coming from Indonesia, followed by Bangladesh, India and Nepal. "The government recognises that the continued heavy reliance on foreign labour can give rise to various issues and risks, including exploitation and forced labour, especially due to a lack of transparency in recruitment processes. "This can also lead to trade restrictions imposed by countries such as the United States if there is evidence of forced labour practices within the supply chain. "Therefore, the ministry has taken the initiative to organise programmes like this, to ensure that labour-related challenges no longer hinder the development and progress of the plantation sector," he said.
