‘Chicago Fire': Daniel Kyri & Jake Lockett To Leave After Season 13
EXCLUSIVE: Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett will not be returning to NBC's Chicago Fire if the show is renewed for a 14th season, sources tell Deadline. Kyri has been on the hit firefighter drama for seven seasons, Lockett for three.
The move comes amid rumblings about cuts across Wolf Entertainment's NBC series ahead of their likely renewals for next season. As a cost-saving measure, the Chicago and Law & Order series two years ago reduced the number of episodes for most longtime cast members. It is unclear yet whether the belt-tightening this time will involve further episode reductions, but it is a possibility.

Kyri and Lockett's departures are believed to be part of an effort to trim the budget of Chicago Fire, which also faces negotiations with many of the series' veteran cast members whose contracts are up, sources said. As actor deals are getting renegotiated and renewal talks between NBC and producing studio Universal Television on the five Wolf Entertainment series for the network continue, there could be more exits across all five shows, we hear.
Sources close to production reveal that shooting continues on Chicago Fire, which means Darren and Sam may get a proper ending for their characters. Thirteen seasons in, the One Chicago mothership remains one of NBC's best performing scripted series on both linear and streaming.
Reps for NBC, Universal TV and Wolf Entertainment declined comment.
Kyri joined Chicago Fire in Season 7 as Firefighter Darren Ritter in a recurring role before getting promoted to the main cast two seasons later. Darren is well-liked and respected among his peers and has come a long way since he was a firefighter candidate. The recent focus of the character has been around his love life, with Season 12 and Season 13 delving into his relationship with Officer Dwayne Monroe. The pair parted ways because Darren wasn't ready to move in with Dwayne.
Lockett has portrayed Firefighter Sam Carver since Season 11. He also started on the show in a recurring role before getting bumped up to the main cast two seasons later. His storyline seemed to wane after his relationship with Violet ended, leading him back to the destructive behaviors he had worked so hard to improve upon. He also found himself in the arms of a former girlfriend who, as a party girl, was probably not the best choice for a sober person to reignite a relationship with. He eventually relapsed and entered a 12-step program and rehab. Since then, Sam has been working hard to redeem himself at the firehouse and with Violet, who have since renewed their friendship.

To wit: Disney's Lilo & Stitch added $113.1M from 52 offshore markets, lifting the international box office cume to $330.7M. The overseas drop was just 28%. The worldwide total through today is $610.8M. The international total on the Tom Cruise-starrer is now $231.2M, and global is $353.8M. Before we dig into details on the above, note that Sony's Karate Kid: Legends, which kicked off international rollout in early May ahead of its wide global release this weekend, kicked up another $12M from 43 offshore markets this session. That takes the international cume to $26M through Sunday. Alongside domestic, the global gross to date is $47M. Major markets to come on this one are: Australia (June 5), Italy (June 5), China (June 7), Spain (August 8), France (August 13) and Japan (August 29). Now, turning back to Lilo & Mission… Disney's live-action take on the 2002 animated adventure has already become the No. 2 studio release of the year internationally, and is the No. 1 non-local title across Europe (except for Denmark and Finland), and in all markets across Latin America as well as Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Philippines and Thailand. Notable holds this frame include France (0%), Germany (-12%), UK (-28%), Australia (-29%), Brazil (-34%), Spain (-36%), Mexico (-40%), Korea (-44%) and Italy (-46%). Some markets saw increases, including Netherlands (+21%), Belgium (+13%), Saudi Arabia (+8%), Poland (+7%), Singapore (+3%) and Ukraine (+1%). New this session was Hong Kong ($1.1M), where the little blue alien opened at No. 1 and 4% ahead of The Minecraft Movie. Among other benchmarks, L&S is notably the 2nd highest grossing Disney live-action title of all-time across the Latin American region (behind only The Lion King); the 2nd highest grossing Disney live-action title ever in Mexico, 3rd highest in Colombia and 4th highest in Brazil. Further, it is the highest grossing film of 2025 in Italy (non-local), Brazil, Mexico and Thailand. The Top 5 to date are: Mexico ($45.9M), UK ($34.5M), France ($23.1M), Brazil ($21.6M) and Germany ($18.1M). Japan opens next weekend. As for Mission 8, audiences continued to accept. Notable strong holds were seen in Netherlands (-4%), Germany (-10%), France (-21%), Indonesia (-21%) and Japan (-23%). Also notably, China debuted this frame. This is a market that typically gravitates towards the franchise, but has been wonky of late with Hollywood fare. So, great news that The Final Reckoning became the highest-grossing imported film on a single day this year, and the fastest imported film to reach the RMB 100M mark in 2025. The gross there is a strong $25.2M while social scores are the highest of the franchise. The Top 5 markets to date are: China ($25.2M), UK ($22.3M), Japan ($18.5M), Korea ($17M) and France ($14.2M). Elsewhere, New Line/Warner Bros' Final Destination Bloodlines landed with another $14.4M from 75 offshore markets, a strong 37% drop from last weekend. The international running total is $117.6M through Sunday with worldwide at $229.3M. The Top 5 are: UK ($12.5M), Mexico ($11.2M), India ($7.6M), Philippines ($6.9M) and France ($6.7M). The film has also become the biggest horror movie of all time in Pakistan, and the 4th best ever there for a WB title. ‘Ballerina' Hopes To Tiptoe Past $30M U.S., $60M WW As ‘Lilo & Stitch' Continues To Bigfoot
Whether or not Lionsgate's John Wick spinoff Ballerina clears or falls under $30M this weekend in U.S./Canada, consider the win in favor of exhibition, which will have that much more money in the marketplace. The Ana de Armas action movie from director Len Wiseman also is bowing in 82 countries in what's expected to be another $30M, for a global take around $60M. That offshore cash would be on par with the start of John Wick: Chapter 3 in 2019. Lionsgate is self-distributing in the UK and Latin America. More from Deadline 'From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina' Review: Ana De Armas Gives Spinoff A Fighting Chance 'Lilo & Stitch': All The Box Office Records Broken Ana De Armas Teases 'Deeper' With Tom Cruise & Reveals The Lessons 'Ballerina' Has Taught Her Largely funded from foreign sales, the $80M-$90M movie, which was delayed by a year for additional shooting (don't say reshoots — it's additional shooting, OK?) is expected to rank second during the first weekend of June. Disney's will threepeat at No. 1 with $35M, -43%. Flying past $300M this week, it still is the second-highest-grossing movie at the domestic box office YTD behind Warner Bros/Legendary's A Minecraft Movie ($423.1M). RELATED: Ballerina stars Armas as Eve Macarro, an orphan who is trained by the Ruska Roma, the Russian assassin school/ballet academy front, whose leader The Director (Anjelica Huston) also schooled John Wick (Keanu Reeves). As Eve becomes a gun for hire, she's ultimately hellbent to avenge the death of her father, the guy slain by The Chancellor (Gabriel Byrne). There's a slew of cameos from the John Wick gang along the way including Winston (Ian McShane) and Charon (the late Lance Reddick), the concierge at the Continental Hotel in New York, as well as Wick himself. Spinoffs rarely put up similar or better numbers than an original franchise's installments; 2023's John Wick: Chapter 4 the best bow in series at $73.8M. Sources advise not to comp Ballerina to any John Wick movies (this despite the fact that Reeves is in the marketing), rather the best comps are solo female action movies, i.e. Alita: Battle Angel ($28.5M in 2019), Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga ($26.3M, 2024) and Madame Web ($15.3M, 2024). We hear that Fandango presales for Ballerina are 32% ahead of Madame Web, but pacing 50% behind Furiosa. While we needed product in Q1 and Q2 of this year, Ballerina is opening at this point in time as Lionsgate had access to Reeves for the press tour (he introduced the movie Tuesday night at the Hollywood premiere with John Wick architect Chad Stahelski, who is a producer on the new film). One tracking service shows that first choice is best with men over 25, yet 40% behind Furiosa in the same demo. Lionsgate has a master plan, as unveiled at CinemaCon, to build out the John Wick franchise even more than it already is (an animated prequel, a Donnie Yen-directed movie about blind assassin Caine), with Ballerina being another cog in the wheel. There's already been the Peacock series The Continental. Critics generally love John Wick movies, with the pics ranging from 86% certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes to Chapter 4's franchise high of 94% certified fresh. There are fan screenings today starting at 7 p.m. for the R-rated Ballerina, with more previews starting at 6 p.m. Thursday. What else is going on this weekend? With a continued grip on Imax, Paramount's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is eyeing around $15M in weekend 3, -45%. The running cume stands at $129.3M. Sony's second weekend of Karate Kid: Legends is eyeing around $10M, -51%. The movie through Tuesday counts $24.1M. RELATED: Focus Features is expanding Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme from six theaters to 1,600 for a 3-day around $7M. Last weekend, the Cannes-debuting movie posted the best opening theater average of the year with $93,4K. By comparison, Asteroid City did $9M two Junes ago in its wide break second weekend on 1,675 theaters. No Rotten Tomatoes audience score yet. IFC has the Australian shark movie Dangerous Animals, which it world premiered in Directors' Fortnight at Cannes to 88% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with film reviewers. The Sean Byrne-directed final-girl movie starring Jai Courtney and Yellowstone's Hassie Harrison follows a shark tour guide who feeds his passengers to the sharks. Booked at 1,600 theaters, expect a start in low-single-digit range. IFC's Clown in the Cornfield opened to $3.6M and currently counts $7.2M. Neon's acquisition , which won the People's Choice Award at TIFF, is going out in 16 theaters and eight markets. From writer-director Mike Flanagan and based on the short story by Stephen King, the pic follows three chapters in the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz, played by Tom Hiddleston. Rotten Tomatoes reviews stand at 88% fresh.
