Sardaar Ji 3 to not release in India amid row over Hania Aamir, internet reacts: ‘Boycott Diljit Dosanjh'
Diljit Dosanjh and Pakistani actor Hania Aamir's film Sardaar Ji 3 to skip India release amid growing controversy around it. Many people and film bodies objected to the release over the casting of the Pakistani actor. Amid this, the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 issued a statement, confirming that the film won't be released in India.
Defending the casting of the film, the makers said that Hania was picked before tensions escalated between India and Pakistan. However, the internet is not convinced.
The makers shared in their official statement, 'This is to bring to everyone's kind notice that the film named, Sardaarji 3, was shot well before the prevailing situation that our country is facing now and it was never ever the case that any Pakistani artist was signed or was engaged after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.'
'We stand united with our country and our fellow countrymen during this sensitive time. Considering the same, we had decided not to release the film or any of its promotional content in India until the situation becomes opportune,' they confirmed that the film or related promotional activities won't take place in India.
The statement received mixed reactions from the internet. Many Indians reached out to the comment section to slam the film team.
One of them wrote in the comments, 'U do have the option to cut the scene featuring Hania Aamir and yet u didn't do it and after such backlash u are statement to whitewash your image (sic).'
'Profit first nation comes second,' commented one user sarcastically.
Another added, 'Don't you feel any shame in doing all this.' '@diljitdosanjh boycott go hell with this movie in Pakistan,' added someone else.
Meanwhile, some also welcomed the decision. One of them commented, 'It was a perfect decision art have no boundaries.' 'Perfect,' wrote many.
Earlier, Diljit Dosanjh commented for the first time after the controversy erupted.
In an interview, he said that the film was shot before the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions. He told BBC Asian Network that producer's money is at stake.
The film is slated for the worldwide release on 27 June.
The controversy began ever since the teaser of Sardaarji 3, featuring Hania Aamir, was unveiled.

The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has formally written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, raising strong objections to actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh over the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming film Sardar Ji 3. The protest comes in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 Indian citizens. (Also read: FWICE says it's 'deeply disappointed' over casting of Diljit Dosanjh in Border 2, writes to film's team) Diljit Dosanjh and Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in a still from Sardaar Ji 3 trailer. On Wednesday, AICWA took to its X (formerly Twitter) account and posted the letter, in which it condemned what it described as Diljit's 'insensitive' move to collaborate with Hania, "who has previously made anti-India statements following Operation Sindoor.' AICWA has called for the immediate suspension of Diljit's social media accounts in India and the removal of all his songs and films from platforms such as YouTube, Spotify, JioSaavn, and various OTT services. Additionally, the association is demanding a permanent ban on his live performances and public appearances across the country. They have also urged the government to ensure he is not associated with any state-sponsored programs or campaigns. Furthermore, AICWA has sought a full investigation into the funding of Sardar Ji 3 and a nationwide ban on its release. They have also appealed to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to deny certification to all of Diljit's future projects, effectively calling for his complete boycott from Indian cinema. FWICE 'disappointed' about Diljit casting in Border 2 Earlier today, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) expressed its disappointment and concern about the casting of Diljit in the upcoming film Border 2. Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 stars Varun Dhawan, Sunny Deol, Diljit, and Ahan Shetty. Film body questions Diljit Dosanjh's casting in Border 2, writes open letter to makers
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has issued a strongly worded letter to the makers of Border 2, expressing 'deep disappointment' over the casting of actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh in the upcoming war drama, news agency ANI reported. The move comes amid heightened scrutiny over cross-border artistic collaborations and their implications for the Indian entertainment industry's image and cohesion. The upcoming sequel to JP Dutta's 1997 classic Border is being directed by Anurag Singh and features an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. It is being jointly produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and JP Films, and is scheduled for a theatrical release on January 23, 2026. The row stems from Dosanjh's upcoming Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3, which features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. The film is set to release overseas on June 27, but has not been made available on Indian streaming platforms or YouTube, likely due to ongoing tensions and regulatory sensitivities. FWICE had earlier called for a boycott of all artists involved with Pakistani talent in the wake of recent cross-border hostilities, especially following the Pahalgam terror attack in April and India's Operation Sindoor in May. In its letter, FWICE said that casting Dosanjh in a patriotic film like Border 2 undermines the sentiments of the Indian entertainment workforce and audience. The body called it a 'blatant violation' of its directive and urged producers to reconsider their decision 'in solidarity with national sentiment.' 'By choosing to collaborate with an artist who has so brazenly ignored the ongoing tensions and national sentiment, your production has directly undermined the stand taken by the Indian film industry,' the letter said. FWICE's appeal isn't limited to producers alone. The body has also written to the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Home Affairs, External Affairs, and the Information & Broadcasting, seeking intervention and punitive action against Dosanjh and the production team of Sardaar Ji 3. The film body has also approached the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), requesting that certification be withheld for Sardaar Ji 3, which is being released outside India to circumvent regulatory backlash. The controversy underscores the growing intersection between geopolitics and entertainment in India, especially when commercial collaborations cross sensitive national boundaries. As industry players weigh reputational risks against artistic and financial freedom, this case could set a precedent for future decisions around cross-border casting and distribution.

‘He Chose To Respect Sentiments': Diljit's Ex-Manager Breaks Silence Amid Sardaar Ji 3 Controversy
New Delhi: Diljit Dosanjh's manager, Sonali Singh, shared a long note highlighting the ongoing criticism against the singer-actor for collaborating with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming film 'Sardaar Ji 3'. Diljit Dosanjh is facing a massive backlash from social media, the music fraternity and Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) for working with actress Aamir amid the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan. In a long note titled 'Always choosing love over hate,' Diljit's Manager, Sonali, wrote that the recent criticism surrounding the Punjabi film 'Sardaar Ji 3' is both "disheartening" and "unfair." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sonali (@sonalisingh) "This recent wave of criticism surrounding his upcoming Punjabi film Sardaar Ji, due to the presence of a Pakistani co-star, is both disheartening and unfair, especially considering the timing and the nature of the project. The film was shot long before the current political climate intensified," wrote Sonali Singh. Earlier, in a clarification note by the makers of 'Sardaar Ji 3', the White Hill Studios claimed that the shooting and casting of 'Sardaar Ji 3' were completed before tensions arose between India and Pakistan. Diljit's manager further wrote that the film is funded by the producers' "personal life savings," which are at risk of being "wiped out entirely" due to the ongoing demands against its release. "This is yet another project where innocent families of the producers are involved, created and funded with personal life savings, and made to uplift the regional film industry. To attempt to derail this release now is to undermine not just one actor, but an entire creative ecosystem. It's not a film backed by a giant corporate house that can absorb the blow of massive losses. This is someone's life's earnings, and it's at risk of being wiped out entirely," wrote Singh. On Tuesday, responding to the backlash, the makers of the 'Sardaar Ji 3' announced that they won't release the film or any of its promotional content in India until the situation becomes 'opportune', read the Instagram post of White Hill Studios (Sardaar Ji 3 Makers). Citing this decision, Sonali Singh wrote in her note that Diljit has taken this step out of respect for "public sentiment" and "authorities", despite the significant personal and professional cost, to mitigate losses for those involved. "Diljit has chosen to respect the sentiments of the Indian public and authorities. He is not releasing the film in India, standing in alignment with the nation's current mood, showing once again that he honours the decisions of his own country even at a personal and professional cost," wrote Sonali Singh. Manager Sonali also questioned the netizens' alleged hypocrisy of celebrating Diljit's global achievements while simultaneously questioning his patriotism and belonging within India. "On one hand, the global media celebrates him as the first Indian to perform at Coachella, to appear on Jimmy Fallon carrying his Traditional Identity, to walk the Met Gala carrying his culture & roots. And every single time, he proudly carries India with him. But on the other hand, in his own country, how quickly we forget. How conveniently we celebrate him when he puts India on the map, and how easily we trash him when the narrative turns," wrote Sonali Singh. Sonali Singh posted the long note on her Instagram handle on Wednesday. Amid a storm surrounding his collaboration with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh also took to social media with a cryptic message on Tuesday. Diljit shared a cryptic post on Instagram that read, "Censored before release?"The post was about the long-awaited film 'Punjab 95', which was delayed due to censorship issues. The film, directed by Honey Trehan and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, tells the story of Khalra, known for uncovering human rights violations during Punjab's militancy era. Meanwhile, on Monday, Diljit shared the trailer of the horror-comedy franchise on his Instagram and announced that the film will be released exclusively overseas on June 27. Diljit captioned the trailer post: "Sardaar Ji 3 releasing 27th June OVERSEAS only. FADH LAO BHOOND DIAN LATTAN."The trailer of 'Sardaar Ji 3' is currently not on YouTube India but has been shared by Diljit on his Instagram page.
