NEW ORLEANS, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A federal operation to identify, track, and arrest child predators led to charges for multiple individuals from across Louisiana.
The FBI New Orleans Bureau announced Operation Restore Justice was carried out in Louisiana from April 29 to May 2, as part of a national initiative to identify and prosecute child predators. The operation coincided with the nationwide observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month in April, partnering law enforcement with FBI agents nationwide.
'The FBI is unwavering in its fight to protect children,' said Jonathan Tapp, Special Agent in Charge of FBI New Orleans. 'Each arrest is a powerful testament to the tireless efforts of the FBI and our dedicated law enforcement partners to protect the most vulnerable among us. It reaffirms the FBI's commitment to pursuing justice for victims and hold predators accountable.'

The arrests in Louisiana were made following a joint, undercover operation by the FBI, the Alexandria Police Department, and the Louisiana State Police. One of the Louisiana suspects will be prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Louisiana, two will face state charges prosecuted by the Rapides Parish District Attorney, and a fourth was indicted in the Eastern District of Louisiana on five separate counts.
'This nationwide effort has made its way to the Western District of Louisiana and the U.S. Attorney's Office stands ready to join with the FBI and our state and local law enforcement partners to continue this investigation,' said Acting U.S. Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook. 'These types of crimes against minor children are reprehensible, and we are committed to doing what we can to get these child predators off of our streets.'
United States Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel announced the operation's success during a news conference on Wednesday morning.

NFLPA lawyer placed on leave after her allegations led to FBI probe, per report

The latest twist in the drama that has consumed the NFL Players Association features a lawyer who reportedly squared off with former executive director Lloyd Howell and is now facing some charges herself. Heather McPhee, associate general counsel for the NFLPA since 2009, was placed on paid administrative leave Tuesday after multiple employees filed complaints against her with the union's human resources department, according to ESPN's Don Van Natta Jr. and Jeff Passan. McPhee reportedly faces accusations of failing to follow supervisors' directions, bullying colleagues and disrupting the union's work environment. The decision to place her on leave reportedly comes months after her own allegations helped trigger an FBI investigation into the NFLPA, the MLBPA and their OneTeam Partners licensing company. Matt Curtin, the head of the NFLPA's licensing arm and a member of the OneTeam board, is among those who filed complaints against McPhee. There were several other problems facing the NFLPA by the time Howell resigned last month, but the only one that prompted action by federal authorities was the OneTeam matter. In June 2024, the eight-member board of directors, which included Howell, signed a resolution that could have personally entitled them to considerable compensation from the OneTeam partnership. McPhee reportedly wrote multiple memos suggesting the NFLPA could face legal jeopardy if it went through with the bonus plan and urged the union to investigate claims that the board members had allocated equity shares to themselves. The plan ultimately did not go through. Per The Athletic, OneTeam brought in $101 million for the NFLPA alone from early 2024 into 2025. The NFLPA reportedly owns 44% of the licensing firm, with the MLBPA owning 22% and three other union representing the MLS, USWNT and WNBA owning much smaller shares. Outside investors make the remainder of the ownership. ESPN notes that McPhee has not been deemed a whistleblower in the FBI case, leaving her with fewer legal protections against any retaliation. The NFLPA has been operating under new leadership since Howell announced his resignation, with former SAG-AFTRA executive director David White acting as interim head.

Envelopes with unknown white powder found in ICE office in NYC: FBI

Federal authorities are investigating after envelopes containing an unidentified white powder were found at a government building in New York City that houses an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office, officials said Thursday. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon at 26 Federal Plaza, in Manhattan's Foley Square, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said. The five letters were found at about 4 p.m. in the mailroom of the ICE Enforcement and Removal Office on the ninth floor, according to the FBI. There are no known injuries or any threat to the public at this time, city officials said. "We are working to assess the potential threat," said Christopher Raia, FBI Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI's New York field office, during a press briefing Thursday evening. "In the majority of my experience, most of these incidents turn out to be nothing. However, this matter is not going to be taken lightly," said Raia, who noted that "sending threatening letters of this nature, whether real or a hoax, is a crime." MORE: Texas Democrats staying in Illinois evacuated over bomb threat Personnel in the ICE ERO office found the envelopes, according to Raia, who said two people were initially exposed. The substance is currently undergoing testing, officials said. Hazmat teams were on the ground "to ensure the safety of everyone inside and outside of the building" while awaiting the test results, the mayor said. The building was evacuated "per standard protocol," Raia said. New York City Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Kaz Daughtry said the city and federal partners are investigating and urged people to avoid the area. MORE: Judge orders DHS to improve conditions at New York City facility holding detained migrants The 41-floor office building is home to ICE's New York City field office, as well as the FBI's New York field office and an immigration court. It has made headlines and been the site of frequent protests over ICE operations in the city amid the Trump administration's crackdown on undocumented immigrants. A so-called "holding facility" for detained migrants is located on the 10th floor of the building. Following allegations of unsanitary conditions there, a federal judge this week ordered the Trump administration to ensure the facility is not overcrowded and that detainees are provided with hygiene products and confidential access to lawyers. The Department of Homeland Security denied the conditions in the facility were subprime. New York City Comptroller Brad Lander was arrested in June while observing proceedings at the building's immigration court. He was accused of assaulting law enforcement and impeding a federal officer but has not been charged.
