With Fans 121 Arrests Manchester United Tops List Unwanted List; City 2nd with 94
A total of 121 United fans were arrested, followed by 94 for United's crosstown rival Man City and 77 at West Ham.
Manchester United fans have topped the list of Premier League sides with the most number of fan arrests as the Red Devils dethroned West Ham from the unflattering list.
A total of 121 United fans were arrested, followed by 94 for United's crosstown rival Man City and 77 at West Ham. The Hammers occupied the top spot in the list for the past three years. There was also a notable spike in the number of arrests during United's home games at Old Trafford.
'Forty-nine per cent of the arrests of United fans occurred at home games, with 34 of them for public or violent disorder," a report read.
Dethroning West Ham
The most recent season of the PL marked the first instance of a decline in football-related arrests since fans returned to stadiums following the Covid suspension. According to the report, the most common type of arrest was for public disorder, accounting for 32 per cent. Arrests for possession of Class A drugs saw the highest percentage since it became a Schedule 1 offence in November 2022, rising to 19 per cent from an initial nine per cent in the 2022-23 season.
The report also highlighted an overall increase in the number of banning orders. As of June 1, 2025, 2,435 fans were banned from entering stadiums in England and Wales, which is 12 per cent more than the same time in 2024. This figure represents the highest number of bans since the 2012-13 season.
Fans banned from stadiums in the UK may, in some cases, be required to hand over their passports to the police before their club's overseas fixtures. West Ham had the highest number of supporters with banning orders, totalling 112, which is 19 more than at the end of the 2024 season. Manchester United ranked second with 108 banned fans, up from 89, while Chelsea moved from eighth to third place, increasing their banned supporters from 54 to 80.
The most commonly reported incidents were hate crimes. Out of 1,583 matches, there were 420 fixtures where at least one hate crime was reported. Of these, 287 incidents were related to race, 140 to sexual orientation, 20 to religion, 19 to disability, and three to gender identity.

ED probe into Anil Ambani linked companies: What turns bad loan into fraud
On Saturday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested a company director in a ₹3,000 crore loan 'fraud' case allegedly linked to entities associated with Anil Ambani's Reliance ADAG group. The arrest, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), is the first in the case. While the probe continues, it brings to light a key regulatory distinction: when does a loan stop being a business risk and start being a criminal fraud? Default, wilful default, fraud: What RBI says India's financial system sees loan issues on a scale: default, wilful default, and fraud. Fraud: According to RBI's Master Directions on Frauds Classification and Reporting by Commercial Banks and Select FIs, a fraud involves deliberate deception using false documents, shell firms, and accounting manipulation. Classification as fraud follows a forensic audit and internal bank committee approval. When does PMLA come in? Fraud under PMLA is triggered when the activity generates 'proceeds of crime'. The sequence is: A default occurs The bank detects anomalies and initiates a forensic audit The audit confirms diversion or misreporting The bank files an FIR and classifies the loan as fraud ED or CBI steps in if criminality is apparent According to Section 3 of the PMLA, anyone knowingly involved in activities connected to proceeds of crime is guilty of money laundering. Where the Anil Ambani-linked case fits in The ED is investigating loans worth ₹3,000 crore taken by entities allegedly tied to the Reliance ADAG group. The funds were reportedly routed through shell companies to avoid repayment, triggering PMLA charges. The arrested individual, a director of a Mumbai firm, allegedly played a key role in the laundering process. While Anil Ambani has not been named in the arrest note, the ED has reportedly issued a lookout notice against him. He has also been summoned for questioning by the agency on Tuesday, August 5. Loan fraud vs bad loan: What's the difference? In India, many large defaults stem from business failure, not fraud. Some of the common causes include: Market downturns Failed business models External shocks (like Covid-19 or raw material inflation) In such cases, the resolution is civil and typically handled under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). Fraud, however, requires evidence of intent—such as fake documentation or shell entities—and often results in criminal proceedings. What past loan frauds reveal Several high-profile frauds have followed similar playbooks: DHFL–Wadhawan (₹34,000 crore): Fake housing loans and fund diversion to shell entities ABG Shipyard (₹22,842 crore): Inflated assets and overseas fund routing Rotomac Pens (₹3,695 crore): Misuse of export credits for unrelated firms IL&FS: Inter-company lending inflated asset books and masked real exposure What happens after a fraud label? Once a loan is declared fraudulent: Borrowers are barred from bank finance for five years Lenders can initiate asset recovery via SARFAESI or IBC ED/CBI may seize assets and press charges Criminal convictions can lead to jail terms and financial penalties Borrowers often contest the fraud tag in courts, delaying outcomes Both civil and criminal paths proceed in parallel, making resolution complex and time-consuming.

Ramsdale joins Newcastle from Southampton on season-long loan
Newcastle signed goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on a season-long loan deal from relegated Southampton on Saturday. Newcastle announced the signing on its website with the Premier League club's coach Eddie Howe calling the 27-year-old Ramsdale an exceptional goalkeeper who adds further quality and international experience to our squad. The England international was previously No. 1 at Arsenal but then lost his place and joined Southampton on a four-year contract. He could not prevent the club going down last season, when he made 30 appearances in the top division. Ramsdale, who has five caps for England, is looking forward to hearing the support of the home fans as one of their players, rather than as a visiting goalie. It's great to be here. I've always loved coming here and I've seen how passionate and loud the fans can be, he said. I've always loved playing at St. James' Park. I've not always had the greatest of results, but when the fans get behind you, it's some place. Newcastle begins its Premier League campaign away to Aston Villa on Aug. 16.

Free-agent Callum Wilson Ends Newcastle Stay By Signing For Premier League Rival West Ham
Former England striker Callum Wilson ended a five-year stint at Newcastle when he signed for Premier League rival West Ham on Saturday. The 33-year-old Wilson, who has penned a one-year contract at West Ham, was a free agent after being unable to agree a new deal at Newcastle. Wilson spent six seasons at Bournemouth before joining Newcastle in September 2020. He said: 'I'm excited to be joining a massive football club like West Ham. A club that shares a similar passion to mine, hard work, dedication...I'm glad to be a part of it." Wilson hit 49 goals in 130 appearances across all competitions for Newcastle. He also scored twice in nine matches for England between 2018 and 2023. 'He is a proven, experienced Premier League striker, with a great work ethic and a fantastic goal-scoring record," said West Ham manager Graham Potter. 'He also has excellent character and personality, which is such an important factor, and something that we place a big emphasis on with our player recruitment." West Ham begins the Premier League season away at promoted Sunderland on Aug. 16.
