Break-in at Irving Park burger restaurant was third in two years, owner says

CHICAGO (WGN) — A trio of vandals, one of whom wearing a mask from the Scream movie franchise, broke into an Irving Park neighborhood restaurant early Tuesday morning, and the owner thinks it may be the same people who've previously targeted the store. Peter Mihopoulos, the owner of Big League Burgers near West Irving Park Road and North Elston Avenue, said he was at home when he saw the attempted burglary via his security system. Video recorded shortly after 4 a.m. shows a patio door being smashed with a brick, allowing two of the criminals to get inside. Video shows a third remained outside as an apparent look-out. Timestamps on the surveillance video showed the vandals were in and out within about 45 seconds. Mihopoulos told WGN the apparent smash-and-grab was the third he's had in the last two years. 'It's a battle to keep open. It's a struggle. It's tough,' he said, choking back tears. 'But you've got to keep going. It's all you can do.' Mihopoulos said the vandals didn't get away with anything but caused significant damage. He said Big League Burgers would be open for business on Wednesday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Airbnb provides roughly $250 million boost to Mississippi's economy

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A major company made a sizeable impact on the American economy and in Mississippi last year. Since 2007, Airbnb has given homeowners the ability to make money from their residential properties. Last year, listings across the United States generated more than $90 billion in economic activity. In Mississippi, that number was $247.3 million towards its overall GDP and supported 3,800 jobs. Airbnb sues New Orleans after it adopts sweeping regulations governing short-term rentals According to the company, a typical guest spent around $775 per trip on other goods and services like restaurants, entertainment, shopping and other local businesses. Since many Airbnb listings are located outside traditional hotel zones, it also generates revenue for areas that usually do not have tourists. Not only do local businesses and workers benefit, but so do governments. Airbnb rentals generated more than $24 billion in tax revenue across the United States. In Mississippi, that number was $65.8 million. Short-term rental restrictions often cost states and even municipalities millions of dollars. In Mississippi, restrictions on short-term rentals have a mixed record of validity; some state courts uphold restrictions while others strike them down. Hundreds of listings for Airbnb exist in the city of Jackson alone. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
