His 77-year-old mother, Sultana Kishore Ahmed Hazarika, died on Sunday when the Uber vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a stationary crane. Mahavatar Narsimha Box Office Collection Day 18: Ashwin Kumar's film crosses ₹210 crore worldwide

Animated mythological epic Mahavatar Narsimha is showing no signs of slowing down at the box office. Since its theatrical release on July 25, director Ashwin Kumar's big-screen spectacle has been setting new benchmarks for Indian animation, amassing over ₹ 210 crore worldwide, the makers announced on Monday. The film recently surpassed Hanuman and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to become the highest-grossing animated film in India. Sharing the milestone on social media, production house Hombale Films wrote, ' ₹ 210 CRORES+ worldwide gross & counting… Mahavatar Narsimha continues the glorious run, shattering records and winning the love of millions worldwide.' At the Indian box office, the film's momentum remains strong. On its third Sunday, Mahavatar Narsimha collected an impressive ₹ 23 crore, taking its domestic total to ₹ 171.92 crore after 18 days, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. That's not all, the film has become the highest-grossing animated film in India. 'When we get this kind of reception, it proves that Indian films have an audience. And even for Disney movies, the artists are all Indians. Yes, we had the resources. The technology was there, but someone just had to take that risk and prove that in India, Indian animation movies will also work,' said Hombale Films co-founder Chaluve Gowda in an interview with Hindustan Times. Produced by Shilpaa Dhawan, Kushal Desai, and Chaitanya Desai under the Kleem Productions banner and presented by Hombale Films, Mahavatar Narsimha was released in both 3D and 2D formats in Hindi and multiple South Indian languages. The film's success has already paved the way for upcoming instalments, including Mahavatar Parshuram and Mahavatar Kalki, with the makers aiming to build a large-scale mythological franchise in Indian animation.

Crawlspace under toilet seat, behind electrical sockets: Raid in Ahmedabad for illegal liquor leads police to bizarre spaces

Around 4am on Monday morning, the Ahmedabad Rural Police raided a home in Bareja village of Daskroi taluka. Police had received a tip-off that the residential tenement was being used to stockpile illegal liquor. As the Local Crime Branch (LCB) raided the residential tenement, they found and seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 2.76 lakh. But what was worth noting is the spots where the liquor was allegedly seized from: a crawlspace concealed by an Indian-style toilet, behind electrical sockets, and in spaces behind the tiled walls. Inspector RN Karmatiya of the LCB told The Indian Express that 792 bottles of whiskey and vodka and cans of beer have been seized during the raid. Police said while several bottles of whiskey and cans of beer were unearthed from under a false crawlspace concealed under a toilet, bottles of vodka were recovered from behind electrical sockets, in spaces behind tiled walls, and other hidden spots inside the walls of the house. Though two women present at the house were detained earlier in the day, no arrests were made at the time of going to press. When asked how the personnel decided to search in unusual places such as under the toilet, PI Karmatiya said, 'We had received information about this place several times from local residents, saying that bootlegging was being carried out from this premises. However, no such liquor had been recovered in the past despite the house being searched 2-3 times.' The Inspector further said, 'We raided the premises at 4 am this morning (Monday) and decided to conduct a deep check, including in the structure of the house, leading us to the IMFL hidden in the toilet and the walls.' When asked about any similar cases in the past, the officer said, 'Previously, we had seen one such case in Mandal (a taluka in Ahmedabad) where IMFL was hidden in the wall behind the cupboards and in the floor under box beds.'
