Damon Albarn's music collective Africa Express has announced their sixth album. Africa Express Presents… Bahidorá will be released on July 11th via World Circuit. In anticipation, the first two singles, 'Mi Lado' and 'Kuduro', are streaming now.
The music collective's first album in six years was recorded last year in Mexico following a performance during Bahidorá Festival. Bahidorá is 'a sonic trip which distills the joy of a musical adventure in Mexico into 21 extraordinary songs,' according to a press description. 'Featuring artists from four continents but with roots firmly planted in Mexico, it entwines rich musical traditions ranging from cumbia, hip-hop and kuduro through to soul, salsa and the sweetest pop.'

The album features over 30 artists, including Albarn, Django Django, Joan as Police Woman, Baba Sissoko, Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Poté, and Seye Adelekan, to name a few.
Reggaeton-influenced 'Mi Lado' features producer Alansito Vega, St. Lucian artist Poté, and feminist rapper Mare Advertencia. 'Kuduro' finds inspiration in Afrobeats, with Malian artist Fatoumata Diawara, South African artist Moonchild Sanelly and producer Tom Excell credited as featured artists.
Africa Express will play a series of shows this summer, including at Roskilde Festival and Cruïlla Festival.
Albarn founded the Africa Express project in 2006 in order to increase the visibility of African artists and music to Western audiences. In that year, Albarn organized a trip which brought Western artists like Fatboy Slim and Martha Wainwright together with African musicians like Amadou & Mariam, Toumani Diabaté, and Bassekou Kouyaté. Later, during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Africa Collective took over 80 artists from across the globe around the British Isle for a series of concerts.
In 2019, Africa Express released their fifth project Africa Express presents… Egoli.

Rescue African artifacts from colonizers' museums in the heist game Relooted
Relooted is a heist game about reclaiming African artifacts from the Western countries that stole them, developed by independent South African studio Nyamakop. Relooted is set in a future timeline where Western nations have signed a treaty to return plundered items to their African regions of origin, but things aren't going to plan. Western leaders are instead hiding the artifacts away in private collections, so it's up to a ragtag crew based in Johannesburg, South Africa, to strategize and steal them back. Relooted is broken into missions, and each one includes a briefing about the artifact, an infiltration planning stage, and the heist. Gameplay is a mix of puzzle and action as you case each building, set up your run, and then execute the plan. Once you grab your target artifact, the security alarms go off and you have a limited amount of time to escape, so thorough preparation is key. To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the "Content and social-media partners" setting to do so. In the Day of the Devs reveal video for Relooted , producer Sithe Ncube cites a wild statistic from a pivotal 2018 report on African cultural heritage, saying, "90 percent of sub-Saharan African culture heritage is in the possession of Western collections. That is millions upon millions of deeply important cultural, spiritual and personal artifacts, including human remains, that aren't in their rightful place." The locations in Relooted are fictional, but the 70 artifacts you have to steal back are real, and they're all currently in Western and private collections, far from their original homes and owners. Nyamakop is one of the largest independent games studios in sub-Saharan Africa, with about 30 developers working on Relooted right now. Its previous game, the globular platformer Semblance , was the first African-developed IP to ever come to a Nintendo console, hitting the Switch in 2018. In order to get Semblance on the Switch, Nyamakop co-founder Ben Myres had to bootstrap his way around the world, buying one-way tickets and finding new partners on the fly in a daisy chain of game festival appearances. Here's how Myres explained it to Engadget at E3 2018: "The entry curve into being an indie game developer in South Africa is like a cliff face. Because you don't have the contacts, the platform holders like Xbox, Sony. You don't have reps that live in your country. The press that matter are all here. There isn't a big enough market locally to sell to, so you have to make works to sell to the West, which means you have to go to Western shows and you have to meet Western press. So basically, if you're not traveling a ton, you're not going to be able to make it." Nyamakop has grown significantly since 2018, and Relooted is an unabashedly African game built by a majority-POC team, Myres and Ncube said in 2024. "There is the thing about making games for Africans — we say that a lot," Ncube told . "We say that should be a thing, we should make games for Africans because we're playing games that were made in the West. But will people even play those games, if you make them? And then if you make games targeting people ... even if you were to make one that's really good, there's no guarantee that you'll have a lot of people playing it. So I think there's some level of confusion, I can say, in terms of unexplored aspects of the African games market." Relooted is in development for Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox Series X/S, and while it doesn't yet have a firm release date, it's available to wishlist.

Released WWE Star R-Truth Has Strong Interest From Top Promotion: Report
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The recent WWE departure of beloved veteran R-Truth was reportedly a financial decision made by the company. According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, R-Truth's contract was so high that for the level they were using him they felt it made no sense to renew it. This news surprised some. He had literally just come off a program that led to a high-profile match with WWE Champ John Cena at Saturday Night's Main Event. Meltzer reported that the news of his exit was met with significant unhappiness within the WWE locker room. There were a lot of wrestlers who were very unhappy because he was so popular with the talent. WWE fans also voiced their support, with chants for R-Truth on the June 2nd episode of Raw after his departure became public. The situation was reportedly handled carefully backstage. Meltzer noted, "Talent was reportedly told no R-Truth T-shirts on Raw, but Rhea Ripley was wearing one backstage and took it off before going on TV." Meltzer stated that those in TNA have already said that they want to make him an offer, and for that company, he'll come in fairly hot. This would mark a significant homecoming for the star. Truth had a historic run in TNA from 2002 to 2007 between his WWE stints. Wrestling as Ron "The Truth" Killings, he became a main event player in TNA. In August 2002, he made history by defeating Ken Shamrock to become the first-ever recognized African-American NWA World Heavyweight Champion. It was a title he would go on to hold a second time. During his TNA tenure, he also showcased his charisma as a founding member of the popular 3Live Kru faction alongside Konnan and B.G. James (formerly Road Dogg in WWE). TNA is where he also held tag team gold. His time in TNA featured a more serious and aggressive persona compared to the comedic character he later perfected in his second, lengthy WWE run. It would also give him a chance to return to WWE if he so wanted to do so one day as TNA and WWE have a working relationship. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

Julia Zilberquit Performance at Mozart Evenings Festival Draws Standing Ovations in Italy
Julia Zilberquit on stage of Teatro Marrucino at the Mozart Evenings concert From the 25th of May to the 4th of June 2025, the Italian city of Chieti, in the country's picturesque Abruzzo region, marked the much-anticipated return of Mozart Evenings, a grand festival celebrating the rich legacy and musical genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Organised by Konstantin Ishkhanov, its President, in collaboration with Artistic Director Giuliano Mazzoccante, this event marked the second edition of the festival, which has quickly established itself as a staple entry in the cultural calendar of the region. Hosted at the historic Teatro Marrucino, which has been named as one of Italy's Theatres of Tradition since 2003, this 2025 edition of Mozart Evenings featured a total of five classical concerts, bringing together a stunning lineup of international soloists, conductors, and orchestras in a celebratory homage to one of the greatest composers in Western music, including amongst them the celebrated US pianist Julia Zilberquit. Julia Zilberquit with the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan on stage of Teatro Marrucino A graduate of the Juilliard School, Zilberquit has earned critical acclaim as a recitalist, chamber musician and recording artist, being praised by the New York Times as 'an outstanding soloist' after one of her performances at Carnegie Hall. She has also performed at the 92nd Street Y, and the Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, to mention a few, and has appeared at many major international music festivals including events in Seattle, Colmar (France), Klangbogen (Vienna), the Bard Music Festival in New York, and the Penderecki Festival (Poland). 'Mozart is of course a genius of all times', said Zilberquit, 'and I don't know what the world of classical music would be without him, I cannot imagine it! I'm so happy to be performing here in Chieti in this wonderful amazing Teatro Marrucino, and to be presenting this particular concerto – the Concerto in A minor No. 23, K. 488. In my opinion, it's one of the most beautiful piano concertos, not only from Mozart's oeuvre, but of all time, especially its second movement. It's very sad and very profound, and I think I'm lucky and we're lucky to be in the presence of such a genius piece tonight.' In addition to Zilberquit, the festival's concerts were headlined by such luminaries as pianists Cyprien Katsaris (Greece), Giuliano Mazzoccante (Italy), and Arsenii Moon (France), violinists Davide Alogna (Italy), Karen Shahgaldyan (Armenia), and Anna Tifu (Italy), clarinetist Vicente Alberola (Spain), flautist Tommaso Benciolini (Italy), and violist Giuseppe Russo Rossi (Italy). Moreover, audiences in Italy were also able to witness the talents of the AYSO Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, who took to the stage under the direction of several acclaimed conductors, including Luis Andrade (Portugal), Alibek Kabdurakhmanov (Uzbekistan), Gianluca Marcianò (Italy), and Teresa Satalino (Italy). 'I'm very happy to have had the chance to work with the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan', Zilberquit added. 'It's a great experience, it was my first time collaborating with them, and with Maestro Gianluca Marcianò as well. We've known each other for a very, very long time, and we have always discussed working together, and today, this finally happened, so I'm very happy about that!' Through this remarkable gathering of artistic excellence, Mozart Evenings continued to fulfil its goal of honouring the rich legacy of the Austrian composer, while also celebrating Chieti's musical heritage and its role as a cultural hub for the region. Commenting about the organisation of the festival, Zilberquit took the time to highlight the work being carried out by the duo who spearheaded the event, stating that 'I have worked with Mr Konstantin Ishkhanov and Maestro Giuliano Mazzoccante several times, and it is always a great experience. The organisation is great, it's always top notch! We've done things together in Malta, we've done things together in Dubai, and I'm especially happy to be in Chieti because I was supposed to perform a solo concert here in the spring of 2020, and then the Covid-19 pandemic started. So, of course, this concert did not happen, but five years later here we are!' From left to right: Gianluca Marcianò, Julia Zilberquit, Konstantin Ishkhanov, Arsenii Moon Having met with widespread acclaim from the crowds that packed the sold-out Marrucino Theatre throughout its run, Mozart Evenings now turns its gaze towards the future once again, as Konstantin Ishkhanov looks to continue to bring the very best of classical music, presented by the top musicians of our time, to the stunning streets of Chieti for many more years to come.
