The 2025 British & Irish Lions series gets under way tonight with Andy Farrell's side taking on Argentina in Dublin.
The iconic touring team will play Australia in this year's edition, and it will mark the return of full stadiums for the first time since 2017, when they toured New Zealand.

This evening's match against Los Pumas marks the first-ever Lions fixture to take place at the Aviva Stadium and will kickstart six weeks of rugby action Down Under.

The two teams will contest for the 1888 Cup and follows the tradition of playing the first warm-up fixture on home soil. In 2021, of course, the Lions played against Japan at Murrayfield, which is where Alun Wyn Jones famously dislocated his shoulder ahead of captaining the tour, before making a miraculous return just 18 days later.
Lions CEO Ben Calveley touched on the importance of the opening fixture in Ireland.
"The opportunity to play in Dublin at Aviva Stadium in front of more than 50,000 Lions fans will make for a great occasion and the perfect send‑off," he began.

"British & Irish Lions tours have a rich heritage built over 130 years of touring but alongside our strong history which we are very proud of, it is important that we look for ways in which to evolve our tours.
"This pre‑tour fixture is one such example of this and builds on the success of the pre‑tour fixture against Japan at Murrayfield in 2021 which was a resounding success.
"British & Irish Lions fans are a core part of what makes a great Lions tour. This fixture in Aviva Stadium gives fans who may not be travelling to Australia the opportunity to see the Lions in action which is really important to us." Emma Raducanu was right to get a crying baby kicked out of her match

As a self-confessed tennis avoider – it's sweaty, monotonous, and that grunting is just weird – I admit I've never paid much attention to British star Emma Radacanu. That is, until I saw the footage of her this week, asking for a screaming child to be removed from the court at the Cincinnati Open. She may not have won against rival Aryna Sabalenka, but as far as I'm concerned it was Game, Set and Match to Radacanu, my new sporting heroine. Give her all the silverware. I commend Emma for finding the courage to speak up and complain about the noisy tot – or rather, its entitled parents – who seemingly were perfectly content to allow it to disturb a highly pressurised sports competition, the concentration of the players, and the enjoyment of the crowd who'd paid through the nose to be there. I use the word 'courage' very deliberately because it's actually not easy to do what Emma did, in full glare of TV cameras, and risk the wrath of equally entitled parents who see no issue with allowing little children, through no fault of their own, to wreak havoc on the enjoyment of others. Let me be clear, I do not subscribe to the old adage: 'Children should be seen and not heard'. I have two myself – boys, aged eight and 10 – and I fully support the progress we've made societally in acknowledging children, including them, and making them and their parents feel welcome and comfortable in the world we all share. However, just because you can bring children into certain settings, doesn't mean you should. And it definitely doesn't mean you have carte blanche to let them behave any which way, with no consideration for others. Yet, increasingly, that seems to be the hot take of many modern parents, whose awareness of and respect for others evaporated the moment they left the maternity ward. I've lost count of the moments in my own life spoiled by other people's children. Especially when there is no recognition that they either shouldn't be there in the first place or their behaviour needs to be carefully managed and moderated, out of consideration for others. From meals in posh restaurants that nobody in their right mind would class as kiddy-friendly, to evening theatre performances and sporting fixtures. My own peace and pleasure has been shattered on multiple occasions by babies and children crying, running wild, and generally being a nuisance. When I got married, I banned children from the entire wedding day, simply because I'd been at too many dominated by kids whose parents were having too much fun to actually parent them. There was no way that was happening on my big day. And even when some guests refused to come without their offspring, I held firm on the policy. Of course, any parent can find themselves in a situation where, even in an appropriate setting, the roaring starts or a cranky toddler has a meltdown. But what I, and other considerate mums and dads do, is swiftly exit. Many times I've had to abandon a half-drunk cup of coffee in a cafe or leave a shop prematurely because I simply wouldn't dream of co-opting people around me into my child 'having a moment'. Why didn't the tennis-watching parents of the crying baby stand up the moment they began to squeal, and leave? By the time Emma Radacanu raised it with the umpire, the crying had reportedly been going on for 10 minutes! Since having my sons, I've planned my social life carefully because the reality is, when you have children, there are just some locations and events you should avoid for the sake of others. More Trending Yes, it's frustrating but it's about being a realistic and decent person, and accepting this temporary parenthood penalty until they're a bit older. Now, I'd happily take them to a sporting event (like a tennis match) because I know they have the attention span and maturity to sit through it and behave. But when they were babies? Absolutely not! I've no doubt Emma's ears will be burning from outraged social media comments and chats on mum's forums about her complaint, but this mum applauds her. It's time parents woke up to the fact that the world doesn't revolve around our cherubs and if we want them to be included and respected, we need to show awareness of others. Wales striker Kayleigh Barton to retire from football

Cymru's Kayleigh Barton has announced her retirement from football at the age of 37. The Charlton Athletic striker, who has scored 22 goals for Wales, was part of the squad at this year's UEFA's Women's Euros in Switzerland. With 89 caps, Barton is now to take on the role of Cymru's Women's under 17s Assistant Coach for FAW. In a statement, Barton said: "Ever since a young age, I've always loved football. From playing in the garden with my younger brothers, having the first letter for my Cymru age group call up, to representing the senior team at our first ever major finals. "I've had a phenomenal football career both representing my country and at club level, and it's something that I'm so proud of." Barton, from Cardiff, began her career at the city's club in 2012 before moving onto Yeovil Town in 2016, where she spent time on loan to Chieti Calcio Femminile. She then moved on to play for Brighton & Hove Albion in 2018, before joining Charlton Athletic in 2023. Barton added: "To my friends and family... I can't thank you enough for always supporting me throughout my football career. To the two people who have been there from the very beginning: you've travelled the country to watch me play, and even now, you continue to support every decision I make. Thank you – from the bottom of my heart. "What a journey it's been. I've experienced incredible highs and tough lows, but those moments are what made this path so special. Barton also thanked Welsh fans: "Throughout my career the Red Wall have always supported us, and you have all been phenomenal. When you travel away with us, we can hear the noise. "Please make sure you continue to support the team through thick and thin, and I will be in the stands with you doing the same." She concluded: "In football, you fight and go through it for so many years. There are so many highs, so many lows, but to finally achieve something that you've always want to do as a young girl and represent your country on the world stage. It means everything. "I'll definitely miss you all, but I think now is the time to say goodbye. Diolch am bopeth."

Rollie inspired to push for Lions recognition

Chloe Rollie says the British and Irish Lions' series win in Australia has fuelled her desire to be part of the inaugural women's tour in first female Lions squad will head for New Zealand in two years' time and Scotland full-back Rollie would love to be part of that historic says watching Andy Farrell's Lions – featuring the likes of Scotland's Finn Russell, Sione Tuipulotu, Huw Jones and Blair Kinghorn – defeat the Wallabies this summer gave her a taste of what might be possible in her own future."I think in the past it's not really had that effect because it was it was never an opportunity that we thought we were going to have," Rollie told the BBC Scotland Rugby Podcast."Now watching it and seeing all the different nations coming together and performing as a team, it really pushes you to want to do that as well."I would say it's probably the pinnacle of your career. It's definitely a target that I personally want to push for."Looking at the men's side, there was a lot of Scots in it and that makes us really proud as a nation and I think there's no reason why that can't be the same in the women's side."We're a small nation but that doesn't matter, we still want to strive to be the best of the best of world rugby."
