LOI preview: Shamrock Rovers meet injury-hit Saints in Tallaght
Shamrock Rovers, St Patrick's Athletic, Shelbourne and Drogheda United face a more hectic period now, rather than later summer, with the idea of limited league fixture around pivotal times in qualfying in Europe in July.
The scenario will be repeated again on 16 June, again to reduce their fixture list the month after.
Shamrock Rovers will be happy to have the games coming thick and fast due to excellent form as they sit two points clear at the top against of the visit of Pat's to Tallaght.
The Saints are playing in fits and starts, falling 2-1 behind to Cork City on Friday before winning the game with seconds to spare.
Injuries are undoubtedly a factor, and the enormity of the result was not lost on all in Richmond Park amid racous scenes.
Kenny will be without several players tonight.
Kian Leavy and Joe Redmond picked up injuries against Cork and will have to have late fitness tests while Barry Bagley will be suspended.
Chris Forester and Romal Palmer are our injured until mid-summer.
Kenny will have to be creative to see who joins Jamie Lennon in midfield.
Jay McClelland and Brandon Kavanagh are likely to figure somewhere across the middle of the park.
The Pat's boss has brushed away any idea of being defensive, given they are down on numbers.
"It's not even halfway through the season, I don't think you can think in those terms and we never really set up like that," Kenny said.
"It's not really our style to sit in and defend. We'll have to come up with a strategy to play because Shamrock Rovers over are in great form."
The Hoops were 3-1 winners in Waterford and have lost just once in their last 13 matches.
Stephen Bradley believes some of the best the League of Ireland has to offer will be on show.
"It should be a good game," Bradley predicted.
"Two good teams, Pat's have real quality, so it should be a really good game. Our pitch in Tallaght is always incredible, the weather is obviously still nice, so it has the makings to be a really good game.
"We've one or two knocks from Friday night, as always, that's quite normal. But other than Seán Kavanagh, everyone else is fit and available which is good. The squad is in a good place."
A struggling Shels side will host FAI Cup holders Drogs in Tolka Park having sunk to sixth in the table.
Now seven points off the leaders, the match takes added importance for the champions.
Damien Duff will return to the sideline after serving a suspension.
But Mark Coyle and Ali Coote will be banned after red cards in Friday's loss to Bohemians.
Drogheda United are still sore from a late concession to Derry City in the 1-1 draw at Sullivan and Lambe Park.
They sit three points against Shels going into this fixture. The teams played out a 2-2 draw last month and have had a host of memorable battles since Duff took over at Tolka Park.

Josh Thomas strikes late as Drogheda win at Dalymount Park
A dramatic goal from substitute Josh Thomas, four minutes from time, gave Drogheda United a third consecutive 1-0 league win over Alan Reynolds' side as the visitors took the spoils after a month without a league game. Just when it looked like the game was heading for a draw, Drogheda won it as a sumptuous through ball by Conor Keeley straight down the middle picked out Thomas in the 86th minute who then outstripped the home defence and coolly put the ball past Kacper Chorazka. Drogheda had only played a single match in the last month before the visit to Dalymount, disposing of Crumlin United in the FAI Cup, having lost out in a place in the UEFA Conference league due to a club ownership conflict. Drogheda had been kicking their heels as a result and had a mid-season training camp in Spain to keep their players ticking over. However, they came back to action with a late smash and grab to severely dent Bohemians' title ambitions, as they remain seven points behind leaders Shamrock Rovers and now having played a game more than the Hoops who can go 10 points clear if they beat Derry City on Sunday evening. Crunching tackles and fouls littered the opening period as second faced fourth with Bohs four points ahead of the visitors prior to kick-off, but there were chances. Straight from the kick-off Drogheda lost possession and Dayle Rooney, inside his own half, spotted United keeper Luke Dennison off his line and his audacious effort didn't miss by much. Moments later Bohs right-back Ross Tierney was caught in possession by Dare Kareem, but Kacper Chorazka saved Kareem's effort on the edge of his six-yard box. Kareem was brought into the club in the off-season as an Under-20s player but injures, and the departure of Douglas James-Taylor to Bohemians, has seen the 19-year-old elevated to the senior squad. On the quarter hour, a ball from Bohs captain Dawson Devoy outfoxed the visitors defence and picked out Tierney all alone in the area. He looked certain to score only for Dennison to pull off a brilliant point-blank save with his leg to keep the game scoreless. A poor headed clearance from Conor Kane then fell for Drogheda centre-half Conor Keeley who turned and shot from the edge of the area, with his dipping effort just clearing the Bohs crossbar. The helter-skelter nature of the game continued after the break as both sides looked for the breakthrough goal, but a combination of poor finishing and last-ditch tackles kept the game scoreless. Jordan Flores' shot from the edge of the area came though a ruck of players and Dennison did well to get down late to save just after the hour mark. On 73 minutes, Connor Parsons delivered a cross to pick out Tierney at the back post who smashed his shot into the side netting, with many of the home support thinking it had hit the back of the net, which garnered much derision from the away supporters. Just when the game appeared to be heading for a scoreless draw, Thomas was the coolest player on the pitch, taking his time when one on one with the keeper to slot home the cheekiest of winners for Drogheda with 86 minutes on the clock. Bohemian FC: Kacper Chorazka; Niall Morahan, Cian Byrne (Keith Buckley 71), Rob Cornwall (Markuss Strods 90), Jordan Flores; Connor Parsons (Rhys Brennan 81), Dawson Devoy, Ross Tierney, Dayle Rooney; Colm Whelan (Adam McDonnell 81), James Clarke. Drogheda United: Luke Dennison; Andrew Quinn, Conor Keely, James Bolger (John O'Sullivan 87); Owen Lambe, Luke Heaney (Shane Farrell 77), Ryan Brennan (George Cooper 87), Daragh Markey, Conor Kane; Dare Kareem (Joshua Thomas 63), Thomas Oluwa (Warren Davis 63).

Super sub Josh Thomas secured Drogheda United important win away at Bohemians
Bohemians 0 Drogheda United 1 Josh Thomas was sprung for the bench to score a late winner as Drogheda United maintained their hoodoo over Bohemians with this smash-and-grab victory, their third in a row at Dalymount Park. With Drogheda defending tenaciously as Bohs all but owned the ball throughout the second half, the Boynesiders struck on the counterattack on 86 minutes. Conor Keeley, imperious in the heart of Drogheda's defence throughout, broke forward to thread a pass straight down the middle for the run of Thomas. The striker, making his first appearance in the league since scoring in the 3-0 win over Sligo Rovers back in February, used his power and pace to hold off the challenge of both Rob Cornwall and Niall Morahan to skip between them and dink his shot past Kacper Chorazka. It's now just one win over Drogheda from their last seven meetings for Bohemians who controlled much of the play here but lacked a real cutting edge in the final third against Kevin Doherty's resilient side. While Drogheda move level on 41 points with third-placed Derry City, Shamrock Rovers were potentially the other winners here, a victory over Derry at Tallaght Stadium on Sunday evening will put them 10 points clear at the top of the table with 10 games to play. Missing their chief summer signing, ex-Drogheda striker Douglas James-Taylor due to illness, sloppiness almost saw Bohs punished inside four minutes when Cian Byrne was dispossessed by an alert Dare Kareem. The big Drogheda striker surged forward, his drive just lacking sufficient venom to seriously trouble Chorazka who saved comfortably. In a helter-skelter opening, Bohs threatened for the first time on 15 minutes. A delightful piece of magic from Dawson Devoy saw the skipper thread a sublime pass through for Ross Tierney. Racing off his line, Luke Dennison made himself big to deflect the volley out for a corner. A Conor Kane long throw soon caused Bohs issues at the other end, the ball nodded back by James Bolger for Keeley to dip a volley on the turn just over the Gypsies' crossbar. Bohs had further worries minutes later. Kane's free kick into their area wasn't fully cleared with Andy Quinn's scuffed shot saved by Chorazka. Bohs dominated the ball from the resumption, Keeley rescuing Drogheda eight minutes in with a vital touch to deflect James Clarke's effort out for a corner following a neat one-two with Collie Whelan. The home faithful were then on their feet thinking Bohs had taken the lead on 72 minutes. Tierney's powerful volley from Connor Parson's cross had merely found the side-netting. But it was Drogheda's raucous following who would almost lift the roof off the Mono stand four minutes from the end of regulation time to salute Thomas's winner. Bohemians: Chorazka; Byrne (Buckley, 71), Cornwall (Stods, 90), Flores; Rooney, Morahan, Devoy, Parsons (Brennan, 80); Tierney, Clarke; Whelan (McDonnell, 80). Drogheda United: Dennison; Lambe, Quinn, Keeley, Bolger (Cooper, 87), Kane; Heeney (Farrell, 77), Brennan (O'Sullivan, 87); Markey; Oluwa (Davis, 63), Kareem (Thomas, 63). Referee: Paul Norton (Dublin). Attendance: 4,372.

Late Josh Thomas strike sinks Bohemians as Drogheda United edge fiery clash for third 1-0 win this season
DROGHEDA UNITED claimed all three points at Dalymount Park thanks to bish, bash, Josh. Substitute Josh Thomas scored the only goal in the 86th minute in his first game in more than five months. Advertisement 2 Josh Thomas of Drogheda United scored a late winner as Bohs slumped yet again 2 Alan Reynolds' side have failed to take points from Drogheda in 2025 - that's after three games between the sides The decisive moment summed up the sides' contrasting styles when another intricate Bohs' attack broke down when Conor Keely got to the ball ahead of Ross Tierney. He wasted no time in picking out Thomas who had made a nuisance of himself after being brought on and was lucky to escape a booking for twice catching Rob Cornwall late. But, when it came to a race between the pair, with Niall Morahan also in pursuit, the on-loan Swansea City striker showed a clean pair of heels before slotting home. Advertisement read more on football It was the third successive 1-0 for Drogheda against Bohs this season, with Douglas James-Taylor was the difference between the sides last time out. He had swapped clubs in the meantime but missed out here through illness. That saw Colm Whelan lead the line with another ex-Drogheda player, James Clarke, playing just behind him. But Bohs' main attacking threat came from Dawson Devoy and Ross Tierney with the pair, in their second spells here after a stint cross-channel, both operating on the same wavelength. Advertisement Most read in Football Latest Live Blog That was never more in evidence when Tierney made a clever run in behind with Devoy producing the sort of pass that few players in the league can to pick him out. Tiernery looked certain to score but his left-foot shot was kept out by the knee of Drogheda keeper Luke Dennison. Fears Pep Guardiola's 'imminent' divorce could hurt Man City as boss' relationship with wife continues to deteriorate The roles were twice reversed later on in the half when Tierney pulled the ball back to Devoy who was outside the box but his effort was deflected behind for a corner. Then, he found Devoy who did well to keep the ball in before laying it off to Connor Parsons who teed up Niall Morahan but his shot was well off-target. Advertisement Whilst Bohs were well on top, Drogheda had their moments, often in second phases from dead-ball situations. From a Conor Kane throw in, James Bolger headed it back to fellow defender Conor Keeley who connected with the ball brilliantly but his dipping volley was just too high whilst Andrew Quinn gave Kacper Chorazka a moment of concern with a shot from close range. There was a good bit of niggle in the game too with five yellow cards handed out in the first half, four of them in a two-minute period. Within six minutes of the restart, both teams had had a penalty appeal waved away. Advertisement First of all, Whelan appeared to be pushed in the back by Bolger but referee Paul Norton was unmoved. And, when Luke Heeney went down at the other end, all he got for his trouble was a booking. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Bohs having the lion's share of the ball but, whenever it looked as though they might have found a breakthrough, a Drogheda player was there to intervene. That is exactly what happened when Devoy slid the ball through to Clarke who laid it off to Whelan and went to collect the return pass before Keeley cut across him to make a vital interception. Advertisement The manner in which the centre-half celebrated his contribution underlined its importance. When Devoy played in Whelan a moment or two later, this time it was Bolger who got his body in the way to block the shot. Some thought their side had finally made the breakthrough in the 73rd minute. Devoy played Parsons into space down the left. He checked back and delivered a right-foot cross to beyond the far post where Tierney was unmarked. Advertisement The former Motherwell and Walsall player's volley rippled the net, prompting celebrations in various pockets of the ground but they were short-lived as the realisation spread that his effort had gone the wrong side of the post.
