With less than two months to go before the July 31 trade deadline, MLB teams are all taking a hard look at where they are, and how they might be able to improve.

The NL-East leading New York Mets, owners of the best record (42-24) in the National League, are no exception.
In an article published Tuesday, suggesting what all 30 teams must do prior to the deadline, ESPN MLB writer Bradford Doolittle suggested the Mets need to asses center field.
"When the Mets acquired Jose Siri during the offseason, it seemed likely that Siri was a stopgap solution while New York waited on some of its outfield prospects to mature." Doolittle wrote.
"Tyrone Taylor has logged the most time in center, but he's best suited for a complementary role. Among the prospects, Drew Gilbert is in Triple-A, but hasn't hit there so far. Thus, center is an obvious position of need for New York, which seems like a great landing spot for Luis Robert Jr."

Robert Jr., who signed a six-year, $50 million deal with the White Sox in 2020, has long been the subject of trade rumors, despite his uncharacteristic performance at the plate this season.

Marred in a 2-for-24 slump over his last seven games, Robert Jr. is slashing .177/.265/.281 with five home runs and 24 RBIs this season. But the 27-year old has shown flashes of greatness during his six years with the White Sox, making him one of the most coveted center fielders as the deadline approaches.
In 2023, Robert Jr. hit .264 with 38 home runs and 80 RBIs, was named an All-Star, and took home a Silver Slugger Award. The center fielder also has the ability to be a menace on the base paths, swiping 90 bases throughout his career, including 21 this season.
The Mets however, weren't the only team Doolittle mentioned that could make a move on Robert Jr. The San Diego Padres could be looking to upgrade in left field.

Civale says he wants to continue starting - in Milwaukee or elsewhere - after Brewers put him in pen

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Aaron Civale is moving to a bullpen role for the first time in his seven-year career. His next move could be out of Milwaukee entirely. One day after the Brewers announced they were shifting him to the bullpen to make room for flame-throwing prospect Jacob Misiorowski in the rotation, Civale said he wants to continue starting, even if that means getting traded.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Do Matching Sweatsuits for a Surprise Stanley Cup Final Date Night

As Taylor Swift sang, Florida is one hell of a drug. Especially in NHL season. Swift and boyfriend Travis Kelce made a surprise appearance last night (June 12) to watch Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers. And of course it's no Taylor-Travis date night to the games without two very considered looks. The couple arrived at the Amerant Arena in Sunrise, Florida hand-in-hand and took their seats in a VIP box for the tense game of ice hockey. It was a rare public date night for Swift and Kelce—who were only recently spotted together at a wedding of Kelce's cousin—though both are in their offseasons: As Swift wrapped her mammoth Eras tour back in December and Kelce the Super Bowl in February. And for the occasion, the pop star and NFL tight end opted for matching sweatsuits and their own takes on team colors. Swift wore a beige and crystal-studded track jacket and pull-on shorts by Area—a go-to Swift brand for matching sets and night out looks—as well as her trusty beige Prada heeled ankle boots and a large black monogrammed Chanel bucket bag. Jewelry was to be expected: DeBeers diamond earrings, her Tiffany 'T' ring, and Wove x Michelle Wi custom 'TNT' bracelet that Kelce gave Swift as a present. She wore her hair pulled back in a ponytail, and a signature (Panthers-friendly) red lip. Kelce meanwhile wore his own bright red long sleeve and shirts sweatsuit, with a white and red cap.

Legendary Chaminade lacrosse coach Jack Moran retiring after 45 years

After 45 years, this frequent flyer is finally landing. Chaminade head lacrosse coach Jack Moran announced he's stepping down from his role — 21 championships and 629 wins later. 'I'm just going to miss the banter,' Moran, 73, told The Post. 'Most of the time with the kids, I can just give a look to them … whatever we do, do it at 100 percent effort 100 percent of the time. And I'm going to miss being able to say that to those guys every single day.' After Moran announced the end of his tenure, he received '178 text messages and about 100 emails' from former players wishing their old coach well. 'I know them all,' Moran said of those he instructed since 1979. 'I probably have a story for every one of them.' It's not his final flight, however. Moran will hold an advisory role with the prestigious Catholic program, where students cut from varsity teams are often still recruited for college. His focus will be on player development and team depth with enthusiastic second- and third-stringers as 'sulkers find out by sophomore year they aren't in the right sport.' I'm going to spend time watching my grandkids play on the weekends, but I'll probably be at the Delbarton game,' he said of the New York-New Jersey rivalry. Assistant coach Gregory Kay, the school's chief academic officer and 1998 grad, will fill the coach's huge shoes next spring. Moran, whose Flyers last won it all in 2018, ended his career on a championship loss to the school's respected archrival, the St. Anthony's Friars, by a score of 16-12 last month. 'In fact, I was happy it was St. Anthony's,' Moran said. 'Because from going out, that's a team I want to go out with.' Carle Place's softball team is heading to the state semifinals and could bring home the Nassau County town's first state title in the sport. The 19-5 LI champions face 20-3 Chatham in the semifinals Friday night. 'We don't know anything about them, we're going in blind,' said sophomore third basemen Alexa Mifsud. Nevertheless, the squad is keeping cool and calm. Junior Isabella DeGroot, a first baseman who also pitches and plays the outfield, recalled pregame jitters of playing Cold Spring Harbor in the first round of the Nassau County games. They conquered CSP 18-0 and then 20-0 in the best-of-three series, and the Frogs used the moment to know the team can hang with the best of any competition thrown their way. 'We're going to have to be ready for all different kinds of pitches now — and we've done a lot of hitting drills for that,' DeGroot added. The USA Patriots amputee softball team, better known as the National Wounded Warrior squad, is traveling to Long Island to take on two local teams, the LI Senior All-Stars and LI All-Stars, at noon and 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Moriches Athletic Complex. Admission is free.
