Holland America will add a third ship for Northern Europe sailings in 2027
The Zuiderdam will homeport in Amsterdam with sailings complementing the current offerings on the Nieuw Statendam and the Rotterdam, which both sail from the port of Rotterdam, Netherlands. The Zuiderdam will also offer departures from Reykjavik, Iceland.
Northern Europe has proven "extremely popular" with Holland America guests, said Paul Grigsby, the line's vice president of deployment and itinerary planning. Internal surveys found it to be among the most appealing destinations for the line's prospective and existing guests, the company said.
• Cruise insight: Sailings to see the 2026 eclipse
"The destinations in the region are some of our highest-rated, from standout ports in Norway like Eidfjord and Bergen and scenic cruising in Eyjafjorour, Iceland, to the U.K.'s Liverpool and Ireland's Killybegs," Grigsby said in a statement. "This season provides guests more chances to experience everything Northern Europe has to offer."
The Zuiderdam is sailing the Caribbean, New England and Canada this year and in 2026.

EU clears Just Eat takeover by Dutch group Prosus
The EU on Monday conditionally approved Dutch investment group Prosus's bid to buy Just Eat for 4.1 billion euros ($4.8 billion). Prosus announced its plans to purchase the Amsterdam-based food delivery platform in February, saying it would create the fourth-largest food delivery group globally. The European Commission, the EU's antitrust regulator, gave the green light for the acquisition after Prosus offered commitments to address the bloc's concerns. Prosus has stakes in food business across more than 70 countries including full ownership of iFood, Latin America's leading food delivery platform, plus stakes in Delivery Hero and China's Meituan. One of Europe's most popular food delivery platforms, Just Eat operates in 17 international markets. The South African tech conglomerate Naspers Limited is the majority owner of Prosus. The remedies offered by Naspers include significantly reducing its share in Delivery Hero, "below a specified very low percentage, within 12 months and to implement a set of additional commitments". The commission said it could not disclose the ownership percentage for Delivery Hero, a Just Eat rival. Prosus currently holds a minority share of 27.4 percent in Delivery Hero. "The divestment and additional commitments ensure that Naspers will have no influence over nor material interest in Delivery Hero's commercial decisions or strategy," the commission said in a statement. Just Eat and Delivery Hero both offer online food delivery services in EU member states Austria, Bulgaria, Italy, Poland, and Spain. "We had concerns that the acquisition... could allow the parties to coordinate their behaviour in the food delivery market, reducing competition and consumer choice," EU competition chief Teresa Ribera said. "Today's binding commitments preserve both competition and consumer choice when ordering food at home," she said. raz/js

Norway to launch major oil and gas licensing round
Norway's energy minister has announced preparations for a significant oil and gas licensing round on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, marking the first issuance of new drilling permits in unexplored regions since 2021, reported Reuters. Minister of Energy Terje Aasland was quoted as saying: 'Norway will be a long-term supplier of oil and gas to Europe, while the Norwegian Continental Shelf will continue to create value and jobs for our country.' The timeline for awarding these permits has not been specified. In 2021, the government agreed to a four-year moratorium on frontier exploration, allowing new acreage awards only near existing fields. This was part of a compromise to secure parliamentary support from a smaller left-wing party. With an election approaching on 8 September, the minority Labour Government holds a slight advantage over centre-right parties in opinion polls. Norway, which produces around four million barrels of oil equivalent per day – half in the form of natural gas and the rest as crude and other liquids – relies heavily on the petroleum sector, which accounted for 60% of its export revenue last year. However, the country faces a potential production decline in the 2030s unless new fields are discovered. The oil and gas industry is a significant part of the Norwegian economy, accounting for approximately 10% of private-sector employment. 'If we are to deliver on our commitment, we must find more, and in order to find we must explore,' Aasland emphasised. Earlier in May, Norway initiated the 2025 offshore licensing round for pre-defined areas, with announcements of awards expected in early 2026. Oil and gas exploration companies are invited to submit bids for the predefined areas 2025 (APA 2025) round by 2 September 2025. The APA 2025 round has been expanded to include 76 blocks, with 68 in the Barents Sea and eight in the Norwegian Sea. "Norway to launch major oil and gas licensing round" was originally created and published by Offshore Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
