A mural on the side of a wall in a car park for nearly 20 years has been re-painted to the delight of the daughter of the original artist.Rebekah Newton, 37, said she was initially nervous when told her father's street art of Locomotion No 1 was going to be restored for the 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. But she said she was grateful and relieved to discover artist Jess McGowan planned to follow the original lines.Stockton Council is going to use the Bishop Street car park mural as the backdrop for a railway-themed party on 28 September.
Zak Newton moved to Stockton from Northampton in 1990 and his daughter said he was "really passionate about history and culture" in the area."He did so much research before painting a mural, he was always going to the library," she said."He would see a wall and think a mural would look good on that."
Miss Newton was invited to see the repainting work in progress."I have got to admit that I was initially a bit sceptical," she said."But when I saw that the artist had followed his lines I was so grateful."She has done an absolutely amazing job, I'm delighted."I'm really proud of his work and it's great it has been given new life."

Watch: Queen shakes hands with a hedge
The Queen gamely shook hands with someone dressed up as a hedge while attending a Big Lunch event celebrating biodiversity. Her Majesty, draped in a long coat, enjoyed a cup of tea and joked about stepping into a 'hurricane' as the sky clouded amid chilly gusts of wind. The event, her first Big Lunch since becoming Queen, was held at the new Eden Dock in Canary Wharf, a 'vibrant, biodiverse space' created by the Eden Project in collaboration with the Canary Wharf Group (CWG). As the Queen made her way toward guests enjoying afternoon tea on decorated outdoor tables, she was introduced to two 'moss people', who represented sculptures installed at the site to increase biodiversity. 'Hello, can I shake your hand?' she said, seemingly unfazed, before peering closer and asking: 'Can you see out of them?' The two figures, covered head to toe in leaves, shook their heads, prompting the Queen to chuckle. Sir Nigel Wilson, chairman of CWG, told the Queen he had recently visited the National Gallery, where the coronation state portraits were unveiled. 'I saw your portrait the other day,' he said. 'It is fantastic, much better than Charles's.' The Queen gave an awkward laugh before being greeted by Angela Rippon, charity ambassador for the Big Lunch, and listening to the London Docklands Singers perform America from West Side Story. She admired a huge cake adorned with vibrant summer flowers, which was made using food that would otherwise have been wasted, and dehydrated flowers from the Eden Project's gardens in Cornwall. As the Queen chatted to local residents, the wind picked up and the grey clouds threatened rain. 'I've come into a hurricane,' she joked, before pointing to someone's coat and saying: 'That's very sensible, I would like to borrow your jacket.' When an aide asked if she wanted a drink, the Queen replied: 'Oh, I would love a cup of tea.' 'One of my favourite places in the world' 'It is jolly cold,' she said, before admiring another show-stopping cake, this one featuring depictions of dishes created by the finalists in The Big Lunch Recipe Search. It included chilli bites, a strawberry and vanilla cheesecake, wild garlic pin wheels and butternut squash empanadas. Camilla, patron of The Big Lunch, a charity initiative formed in 2009, announced that Melanie Brooke, an SEN teacher from Westbury, Wiltshire, was the overall winner, prompting the former chef to break down in tears. Earlier, the Queen revealed that she and the King were hoping to become joint patrons of the Garden Museum, which she said was 'one of my favourite places in the world'. A keen gardener, the Queen was visiting the Lambeth museum's British Flowers Week exhibition, featuring immersive floral installations celebrating local, seasonal flowers. Her Majesty admired a photograph of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, taken by Cecil Beaton in 1939. 'I always think this one is so lovely, in her white dress,' she said. While viewing photographs and sketches of Mr Beaton's set designs for the film My Fair Lady, she added: 'It's just wonderful, you just can't beat that set. I've watched the film time and time again.' In the museum's Clore Learning Space, Camilla joined pupils from Evelyn Grace Academy and Platanos College, who were learning about the biology of the tea plant and making herbal tea bags. Asked what flavour tea she liked, the Queen replied: 'I like mint and a bit of lemon, it helps your digestion.' She was then invited to make her own mint tea bag, saying that she would sample it tonight.

Katherine Ryan, 41, admits having more kids would be 'irresponsible' as she reveals fourth child will be her last and jokes she wants to 'get hot' after this pregnancy
Katherine Ryan has revealed her fourth child will most probably be her last as she admitted it would be 'irresponsible' to have more children. The comedian, 41, announced on her podcast on Wednesday that she is expecting her fourth baby and third child with her husband Bobby Kootstra. The pair are already parents to Fred, three daughter Fenna, two, and the star also has 15-year-old Violet from a previous relationship. And both Katherine and Bobby have admitted this will be the last child as they opened up about the pregnancy. Speaking on her podcast Telling Everybody Everything, Katherine explained: 'I do love making people and I love making them with you, it's always what I've wanted since prom. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The comedian joked she has her sights on 'getting hot' after this pregnancy as she teased she will be giving the Kardashian's surgeons a call 'But at this point, we need to see how it goes, but I think it would be almost irresponsible to the children that we have and to ourselves.' Katherine also joked she has her sights on 'getting hot' after this pregnancy as she teased she will be giving the Kardashian's surgeons a call. 'Now that the Kardashians are being really transparent about who their surgeons are, I've got sights to get hot. 45 whooo! 'There's Ozempic around the corner for me, there's the facelift.' She continued: 'I'm gonna have a baby, hopefully it's a girl we never find out but if it's a boy fine. 'The boys are yours [Bobby's] and the girls are mine. Fred wouldn't want to share you. 'And then have the baby and then we feel really overwhelmed, we nearly break up, we have a comeback story, we go to Italy, have a facelift.' 'Get a revenge body,' added Bobby. Katherine has been open about her fertility struggles in recent years, revealing in 2024 that she had had three miscarriages in five years (pictured on Monday) Katherine also joked that the timing of her pregnancy had coincidentally lined up with that of Sophie Habboo's. The former Made In Chelsea star and her husband Jamie Laing announced they were expecting their first child together on Tuesday. And commenting on the news Katherine teased: 'Sophie Habboo also announced her pregnancy, which is a nightmare for me, she is like 20, a supermodel. 'I feel like we are the same gestation and I'm like "oh great" that girl is going to look hot, hot, hot. 'I will be 42 year old this week, I am very blessed that I am still ovulating. I'm not complaining but it is going to be a fat girl summer for me.' Bobby also joked that Katherine wanted to have another child to defy the biological clock. He explained: 'Well you do not like being told what to do. So when you're getting to an age where women... when it's getting harder to have a baby. You go "I'll tell you what I'll do, I'll have one!" 'And so after the miscarriage you were more keen than ever to get it done because of the biological age and just the feeling of someone telling you that you can't do this, you're like "I will do this". 'I respect that about you. That's where we are, but I think we can say this might be the last one.' Katherine has been open about her fertility struggles in recent years, revealing in 2024 that she had had three miscarriages in five years. Speaking in November, Katherine admitted she would love to have more kids – but was worried about her age. 'I'm old. I used to think I was going to be the babies' dad because I'm working but actually I'm like their grandmother,' she quipped at the time. 'My back hurts, sometimes I give them treats. I'm like a fun grandma.' The couple revealed in the latest series of the family's reality show that they 'wanted the option of having a fourth [child].' The series saw the couple exploring their marriage through therapy before visiting a fertility clinic. Katherine admitted in the scenes which aired in February that she knew conceiving a fourth child would be challenging thanks to both her and Bobby's age. 'It's not that surprising that over-40 women have fewer follicles than we once did,' said Katherine. 'But we talk a lot about male fertility as well, which is on a steep decline. But I would still like a fourth baby. 'We are so blessed to have the kids that we do have. Having children is not for everyone, but I personally really like making people. I think it's a superpower, if you can do it.' She explained at the time how she and her husband had never previously struggled with getting pregnant but had suffered multiple losses. 'We've always gotten pregnant with the babies quite quickly. I've been pregnant five times in five years, but that also means I've had three miscarriages in five years and the likelihood of that increases as you get older,' she explained. 'You have to find a balance between what you can personally stand and risks you're willing to take. I'm working a lot and I don't know if I could have a medical emergency like that while I'm in Lisbon on Thursday.' The comedian also revealed in March 2025 that she was battling melanoma for the second time. She made the revelation in her podcast, Telling Everybody Everything, explaining she paid to have mole removed from her arm and learned it was cancerous. She added that she required more surgery to ensure the entire mass has been removed. Katherine and her husband Bobby have been together since 2018, but have known each other since they were children as they grew up together in Canada . Childhood sweethearts, the two parted ways initially before rekindling their romance this side of the Atlantic.
