‘Multiple dead bodies found in woods' as cops launch urgent probe to work out ‘how many there are'

Devon and Cornwall Police are continuing to scour the woods with the help of officers from across the UK.
Earlier this month, human remains were found following a weeks-long search for a missing man Daniel.
The 43-year-old vanished last month from St Austell, in
Cornwall
.
Police and crime commissioner Alison Hernandez told a panel today that number of "dead bodies" have been discovered.

Ms Hernandez said: "Some of the elements of that operation I can't speak about but some of the things are very obvious.
"As you know there is a large crime scene that has been identified in Cornwall that is requiring a lot of effort to even scene guard the area.
"The level of expertise, some of the mutual aid we've brought in, is expertise in specific types of investigations that we didn't have.
"The National Crime Agency is supporting the organisation at the moment.

"I want to thank all the other forces that are coming in at a very busy time for themselves to offer mutual aid.
"It's largely investigative mutual aid that we've brought in.
"Until some of those elements have been established of exactly what we're dealing with there, it will be made public at that time.
"I know there's been some information in the media. We've got a huge forensic tent down there.

"Lots of forensics officers, obviously we've found dead bodies in that wood.
"We're just trying to establish how many there may be at this point in time and whether we are aware of who they are or what might have happened to them.
"So we also don't know how long they may have been there, some of them."
Units from the National Crime Agency are also assisting with the search effort.

Dentist locked up for life after slowly killing his wife by poisoning her protein shakes

A dentist in the US has been sentenced to life in prison after being found to have fatally poisoned his wife. James Craig, from Colorado, was found guilty of first-degree murder, solicitation to commit murder in the first degree, solicitation to commit perjury, and solicitation to commit evidence tampering. Weeks before his wife Angela's death, he ordered potassium cyanide from Amazon and had it delivered to his dental practice in the Denver suburb of Aurora, according to an affidavit in support of an arrest warrant. Ms Craig was the mother to their six children and the pair had been married for 23 years before her passing. Prosecutors stated that Mr Craig had poisoned his wife over the course of ten days in the month of her death. The court heard Mr Craig poisoned her protein shakes before delivering a fatal dose of arsenic and cyanide on March 15, 2023, after she had been hospitalised. The 43-year-old was then declared brain dead not long after on what was her third trip to hospital following the initial poisonings. An autopsy revealed she had consumed lethal levels of cyanide and tetrahydrozolin that is commonly found in eye drop medication. District Judge Shay Whitaker sentenced Mr Craig to life without the possibility of parole. Judge Whitaker then told Mr Craig that he created a 'path of destruction as wide as a tornado and just as devastating' as she handed down her sentence. His sentencing came after his oldest daughter, Miriam Merservy, spoke tearfully in court about how she missed being able to talk to her mother. She said she felt betrayed by her father. Their son Toliver Craig also told the court that although he and his mother did not always get along, he's now upset 'there's not more time with her'. Mr Craig opted to not testify during the trial and he declined to make a statement before being sentenced. In the closing arguments, prosecutor Michael Mauro said: 'Angela Craig was innocent. She had no part in her death, and the only person who says otherwise is this man. "The person guilty of the ultimate betrayal – her murder. 'There are so many false statements by this defendant that it's tough to keep track.' Defence attorney Lisa Moses acknowledged that Mr Craig had cheated on his wife but that was not proof of murder. Ms Dimes told Cardiff Crown Court today how she gave her permission for Simmonds to have sex with other women on the understanding that she 'did not want to know anything about it.' Prosecutor James Hartson said: 'You say there was an understanding that he might stray. Did he say 'This is how it is going to be?'' Ms Dimes said in her evidence that the alleged victim would "tell stories" and often spoke about sex. She also denied she had been "coached or manipulated' by Simmonds over what to tell jurors. The court heard in January 2024, he messaged fellow rider Jarvis to organise a "threesome" at her home - asking when he should "pop over". The girl told the court Simmonds got her and Jarvis to "do stuff" with each other before he had sex with both of them. Jurors heard previously Simmonds messaged Jarvis after the alleged encounter to say: "You both loved that haha". Jarvis then replied: "Yeah, you missed round two" with a wink emoji. They later hatched a "pact of silence" when they got wind that the girl was talking about it, the court heard. Simmonds text Jarvis, saying: "Hey, I have a feeling that [name of alleged victim] has said about us. "If anyone asks for sake of both of us nothing ever happened that night xx." Jarvis replied: "Hey, who's she told? Oh god has she really, what's she trying to do, make our lives hell? Of course I will xx." Simmonds ran a riding school that offered "showjumping horse production and sales, coaching and schooling" in the village of Undy in Wales. He added the girl on Facebook and told her "thanks for accepting" before being told her age, it is said. The experienced showjumper would allegedly regularly take the girl into a horsebox to sexually abuse her while they were alone at the stables. Jurors heard that at one point, this was happening every couple of days when Simmonds' girlfriend was away. The alarm was raised when the girl told her dad what had allegedly happened and he alerted police. In her police interview, the girl said she felt she could not just walk away because she was scared Simmonds would "hurt me". She added: "I wasn't smiling and stuff when this was going on. If you looked at my face you could tell there was fear." The girl claimed there was one occasion where Simmonds took out his phone and allegedly began filming her. She told police he had a "little smirk on his face", the court heard. Simmonds later dumped his mobile in a bin at a Tesco just days before he was arrested for alleged sexual contact with a child. He denied he was attempting to destroy evidence - and claimed the phone was broken when he was quizzed by police. The court heard he also burned or threw away a mattress from his horse box where he is accused of repeatedly having sex with the victim. Simmonds told police he did not have any form of sexual contact with the victim. He also claimed any messages about the alleged encounter were "banter and a wind up." Simmonds denies six counts of sexual activity with a child, while Jarvis has pleaded not guilty to one charge of sexual activity with a child.
