Jets QB Tyrod Taylor on his foundation, role alongside new teammate Justin Fields
This Week, United Way of New York City (UWNYC), the New York Giants, and the New York Jets celebrated 32 years of partnership at the annual Gridiron Gala. Touchdown Wire's Ed Easton Jr. was on hand as players and honorees walked the red carpet.
Jets quarterback Tyrod Taylor is one of this year's 'Hometown Heroes' honorees. He spoke about his dedication to giving back through the Tyrod Taylor Foundation, which aims to support positive advancements in the lives of youth in underserved communities through charitable giving and education.

"Awesome to be honest, whether this was year one or year 15, as it is now, this speaks more to just a community that's born into me because I'm really just paying it forward," said Taylor, "I'm truly honored to be here such a great crowd and so many great leaders in this room, not only my own community, but here as well too."
Taylor, who signed with the Jets in 2024, was awarded the Kyle Clifton Good Guy award last season, as voted on by the team. He has played with six other teams, including the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans, and the New York Giants. He won Super Bowl XLVII with Baltimore and earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2015, and hopes to continue to share his experiences in the quarterback room.
"I know Justin very well, (we) trained together in the off-season down in Atlanta. We've been good friends throughout this time," said Taylor, "So I'm here to support and help the team win in any form or fashion, whether it's me on the field or whether it's me being able to share some vital experience to coach guys through, whether it's in the quarterback room or any other position, any knowledge or experience that I could offer to the younger guys that helps the team win at the end of the day, is what I'm here to do."

Vikings, OC Wes Phillips agree to contract extension
The Minnesota Vikings will keep Wes Phillips as their offensive coordinator for a little while longer. According to Ben Goessling of the Minnesota Star Tribune, the Vikings and Phillips have agreed to a contract extension. Phillips' deal was set to expire after the 2025 season, but the team is adding one more year to his contract, keeping him on the coaching staff through 2026. Before that, he was Washington's tight ends coach from 2014-2018, spending three years on the same staff as McVay and two years with Kevin O'Connell. The Vikings have ranked seventh, 10th and 12th in total yards under Phillips the last three years but will look to improve those numbers in 2025 with J.J. ESPN's Greg McElroy ranks Georgia's defense among nation's best
ESPN analyst Greg McElroy has high hopes for the Georgia Bulldog defense. In his preseason ranking of the top 10 defenses in football, he ranked Georgia fourth. "This might be a little controversial because they were not quite the same last year as they were in year's past," McElroy prefaced. Advertisement Georgia's defense was ranked 23rd in points allowed per game in 2024. That isn't bad, but it's far from the dominance Georgia showed in 2021-23 when the defense never ranked below 5th in points allowed per game. So why does McElroy rank Georgia's defense 4th? "I trust Kirby Smart," McElroy said, "I think he's one of the best defensive minds in the entire country. He creates a culture of physicality and toughness. It's hard to play against this group regularly." There's the question of how Georgia will be able to replace the talent of NFL first-round picks Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, and Malaki Starks. However, McElroy says fans shouldn't be worried about the talent Georgia lost because of UGA's track record. Advertisement "When have you ever been super concerned about the past departures we've seen on Georgia's defense? They've had a lot of guys shuffling in and out of the lineup last year. Yet, they still played pretty good football for most of the year." Georgia was considered one of the biggest losers of the 2025 NFL draft due to losing nine defensive players in the NFL draft. The Bulldogs also lost nine players via the transfer portal. However, McElroy believes Georgia's high-level freshmen and sophomores will be able to fill the holes left by the massive exodus. Only three team defenses ranked ahead of Georgia: Ohio State placed No. 3, Penn State placed No. 2, and SEC rival Texas placed No. 1. Georgia and Texas will play each other in Week 12, and college football fans will see which defense is stronger.
