Detectives still looking for leads in Indiana cold case murder of Darlene Hulse
Hulse was preparing to leave her home in rural Argos, Indiana, in Marshall County on around 9 a.m. on Aug. 17, 1984 when a man forced his way to her home. She was with her three daughters, aged 6, 8 and 11 months old.
Her 6-year-old and 8-year-old daughters were able to escape and ran to a nearby relative's house, who called police.
When officers from the Argos Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff's Office and Indiana State Police got to Hulse's home, they found her 11-month-old daughter but no sign of Hulse. Police said Hulse was attacked and abducted, driven away in the attacker's vehicle.
They searched the area but were not able to find her.
The next day, police were called for a body found in a wooded area by a timber surveyor on Olive Trail between State Road 110 and 20A Road, about six miles west of where Hulse lived.
The body was identified as Darlene Hulse, and her autopsy ruled her death was a homicide by blunt force trauma.
Her attacker has never been identified or caught. Witnesses described him as a white man in his mid- to late-20s, 6 ft. to 6 ft. 2 in. tall, with blonde hair combed to the side, a long nose and a long face. His car was described as a 1970s-style four-door vehicle that was greenish in color and had rust on it. It may have been a Pontiac or Oldsmobile.

Wake held for Queens man killed in stray bullet shooting in Puerto Rico
A wake was held Saturday for 25-year-old Kevin Mares, a Queens man who was killed while on vacation in Puerto Rico last weekend. Mares, his girlfriend and two others were on the island for a Bad Bunny concert, then they went to a nightclub in the seaside community of La Perla, known for drugs and violence. Police said early Sunday morning, there was an argument outside the club, and a man pulled out a gun and started firing. Two others were shot, and a stray bullet hit Mares in the stomach. He died from his injuries. Kalel Jorell Martinez Bristol, 37, turned himself in on Friday, according to police. He faces first-degree murder charges and is being held on $800,000 bond. Friends and family poured into Frederick Funeral Home on Saturday to remember Mares. "We are all devastated. It's a big tragedy for all of us, big loss. He was starting his life, 25 years old," said Angel Mares, Kevin Mares' god father. "It's very sad that people, some people come to this world to hurt others. He doesn't even imagine what he has caused to our family," mourner Lilian Saenz-Mares said. Family members are waiting for justice. "We just hope that God forgives him. We will forgive him as well because everyone deserves forgiveness," Saenz-Mares said. Kevin Mares is described as kind-hearted and loyal. He loved cooking, growing vegetables and had a passion for animals. He was studying to be a veterinarian. His neighbor's last memory of him was from a month ago. "He just rescued a kitten where he works, and they were giving him milk," neighbor Alexandria Jaramillo said. As loved ones continue to grieve, we're told he had been thinking about the future with his girlfriend. "He was planning to propose [to] her this fall," Saenz-Mares said. Kevin Mares leaves behind his parents, a 15-year-old brother, and countless friends and family. Another visitation will be held at Frederick Funeral Home on Sunday evening, followed by a Mass on Monday before he is cremated.

Man dies after fight in Dixon bar, person of interest sought
Police are searching for a person of interest after a 21-year-old man died after a fight at a bar in Dixon early Saturday morning. Dixon police responded to Luke's Lounge around 2 a.m. for a report of a fight in the bar on North 1st Street. Officers said they found a 21-year-old man suffering life-threatening injuries to his torso. He was rushed to a hospital where he later died, police said. Police identified a person of interest as 44-year-old Brian Sweeney. His location is unknown at this time, police said. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Dixon Police Department. The victim's identification has not been released.

The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) issued a statement on Friday, Aug. 15, after the video circulated online. Authorities said they are 'aware' of the clip and 'investigating the matter.' The short video, which is angled from above, appears to show Kohberger, 30, in a cell, wearing a white shirt and black pants. The subject walks from one side of the jail cell to another, and then places an item on top of a makeshift rack. The IDOC said that they are unable to 'confirm the veracity of the videos," adding that they could be 'fake or AI-enhanced.' Authorities also said that should the videos be found to be legitimate, then the 'parties responsible' violated IDOC policy and would "be held accountable.' According to the IDOC, leadership has sent two emails to staff on July 23 and July 25, reminding them of their policies when it comes to the 'appropriate' usage of 'technology and social media.' 'Videotaping and publicly sharing security footage is prohibited conduct and we will be reviewing all legal options, including criminal prosecution,' the IDOC said in its statement. 'The safety and security of our staff and incarcerated population remain our top priority.' On the same day, the Ada Sherriff's Office (ASO) in Boise shared a statement online, stating that they were also aware of the footage circulating online. The department confirmed it was 'not recorded at and does not feature' the Ada County Jail, which is where the convicted killer spent time prior to his sentence. After his sentencing, Kohberger was transferred to a maximum security prison located near the city of Kuna. According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Kohberger complained to prison guards about being taunted by fellow inmates. Chris McDonough, a retired homicide detective who now works for the Cold Case Foundation, told the outlet that 'the inmates are tormenting him at night and almost all hours of the day… through the vents in his cell.'
