The Delhi High Court has restrained the infringement of the trademark of Swedish vehicle manufacturer, Volvo In an order dated May 30, Justice Amit Bansal further restrained two transporters from the unauthorised use of the mark for their bus services. The Swedish vehicle maker filed a plea seeking a permanent injunction against the defendants from infringing its Volvo trademark. The defendants, the plea alleged, were Udaipur-based Ganesh Motor Body Repairs, a manufacturer and fabricator that made buses nearly identical or deceptively similar to the original Volvo buses, Rishabh Bus Private Limited in Delhi, which purchased buses from the maker and lured customers for its inter-city bus services by advertising its fleet of buses as Volvo buses.Volvo said another transporter, the Bahraich-based Shanti Travels, used a motif on its grille which was nearly identical to its grille.Arguing its case, the Swedish company said its " iconic grille slash trademark " was of particular significance as its placement on the grille of any bus or other automobile signified that the automobile was an originally a Volvo."The defendants, by manufacturing, using, displaying, and advertising lookalikes of the plaintiffs' well-known products, are attempting to create an unauthorised association with the plaintiffs (Volvo group), and target customers and deceive them to believe that the plaintiffs have launched an affordable new range of products," the plea said. The court held that the defendants had dishonestly copied and created fake, replica or counterfeit products of the plaintiffs' famous products bearing the Volvo trademarks."The defendants' attempt to use the suit trademarks is nothing but a mala fide attempt to encash on the plaintiffs' rights and amount to infringement and passing off of the suit trademarks, with a sole intention of riding piggyback on the plaintiffs' immense reputation and goodwill to achieve immense publicity, marketing and business gains," the court said. The order found a prima facie case in their favour of the Swedish maker for an ad-interim injunction."If the actions of the defendants remain unrestrained, then the practice of using the infringing grille slash trademarks on any bus will become rampant and the exclusivity associated with the plaintiffs' buses will vanish over time," it added. The court, as a result, restrained the defendants and their agents from infringing the Volvo mark in any manner by physically using it on buses or using it for travel services till October 9, the next date of hearing.

NIA arrests four more in Tamil Nadu ISIS radicalisation, recruitment case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested four more persons in the Tamil Nadu ISIS radicalisation and recruitment case involving Coimbatore-based Kovai Arabic College. With this, NIA has made eight arrests in the case, which is an off-shoot of the Coimbatore car bomb blast case. The arrested have been identified as Ahmed Ali of Thirumarai Nagar at Podanur, Jawahar Sathik of Pullukkadu housing unit near Ukkadam, Raja Abdullah alias 'Mac' Raja, and Sheik Dawood. According to the NIA, the four men had been radicalised by Jameel Basha, the founder of Madras Arabic College, who, along with his associates, was involved in recruiting gullible youth and subtly infusing Salafi -Jihadi ideology into them, in the guise of imparting Arabic language classes in Tamil Nadu. NIA had earlier arrested and charge-sheeted Basha, his associates Irshath, Syed Abdur Rahman and Mohammed Hussain, who had been using the classrooms and social platforms to carry out their anti-national radicalisation and recruitment activities, the agency stated in a release. NIA investigations revealed that the accused had promoted Khilafat ideology and martyrdom through jihad, advocating violence and armed struggle to establish an Islamic state, after removing the democratically-elected government, it stated. According to the agency, the radicalisation and recruitment activities had led to the Coimbatore car bomb blast in October 2022, in which the suicide bomber Jamesha Mubeen carried out a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack in front of Sangameswarar temple in Coimbatore. The agency added that it was continuing with its investigation in the Tamil Nadu ISIS radicalisation and recruitment case as part of its efforts to check radical terror activities against the nation.

Mourinho and Fenerbahce at centre of Turkish football scandal as leaked texts force resignations

A major scandal has erupted in Turkish football, leading to the resignation of multiple members of the Turkish Professional Football Disciplinary Board (PDFK) with Jose Mourinho at the heart of it. The controversy stems from leaked WhatsApp messages where PDFK members allegedly mocked Fenerbahce and its high-profile head coach, Mourinho. Turkish publication Ajansspor revealed the inappropriate exchanges, which included messages like, 'Mourinho is being given too much leeway. If this continues, he'll pay the price for it next year,' alongside other derogatory comments aimed at Fenerbahce. In the wake of the leaks, the Istanbul-based club released a furious statement on Tuesday, publicly condemning the 'WhatsApp correspondence' of the PDFK members. The club called on Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu to take 'strict actions.' Tarafsızlık sorgulanıyor: PFDK Üyelerinin ifşa olan yazışmaları hakkında Bugün kamuoyuna yansıyan ve Profesyonel Futbol Disiplin Kurulu üyelerine ait olduğu iddia edilen yazışmalar karşısında kulübümüz Türkiye Futbol Federasyonu'na resmi başvurusunu yapmıştır. Tarafsızlık… — Fenerbahçe SK (@Fenerbahce) June 17, 2025 Haciosmanoglu swiftly responded by requesting the resignations of those involved in the scandal. As a result, all implicated PDFK board members, including their Chairperson, have stepped down from their roles. Related Topics Jose Mourinho / Fenerbahce
