3 M'sians nabbed in Laos for suspected drug trafficking

PETALING JAYA : Bukit Aman has confirmed that three Malaysians were arrested in Laos on suspicion of attempting to smuggle 103 packages of marijuana on May 27.
Bukit Aman narcotics criminal investigation department acting director Mat Zani@Salahuddin Che Ali said the trio, aged between 25 and 29, arrived in Laos on a Thai Airways flight.
He said investigations found they had left Malaysia on May 22.
'We are still investigating if the marijuana had been smuggled from here or Thailand.
'The three suspects are now in the custody of the authorities in Laos. We are gathering information and investigating the matter,' Berita Harian reported him as saying.
On May 29, the Laotian Times reported that authorities had seized more than 100 packages of marijuana at Wattay International Airport, and arrested three Malaysians who are accused of attempting to smuggle the drugs into Germany.
Officials uncovered the marijuana concealed within their suitcases, totalling approximately 86kg.
The suspects were reportedly preparing to board a Thai Airways flight en route to Germany.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 — A pedestrian is believed to have drowned after falling into a river when he was hit by a car that skidded in an accident on Jalan Ipoh heading towards the Kepong Roundabout, near here, yesterday morning. He added that the Nissan Sylphy driver sustained injuries and was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for further treatment, while the pedestrian victim, whose identity is still unknown, is suspected to have fallen into the river and has yet to be found. He stated that a search and rescue operation is currently underway by the Fire and Rescue Department from Sentul, Jinjang, and Hang Tuah stations, along with the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), Motorised Patrol Unit (URB), and JSPT Kuala Lumpur. Mohd Zamzuri said further investigations revealed that the car driven by the foreign man was not his, and police are tracking down the actual owner of the vehicle for further action. He said the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and the Bangladeshi man will be detained for further investigation. — Bernama

Youngest son in ICU but stable, Melaka police say after autopsy confirms stabbings behind double deaths of teacher, eldest son
MELAKA, June 14 — A post-mortem has confirmed that a mother and her eldest son were fatally stabbed in the chest and back, in an incident where the suspect is believed to be the woman's second son, aged 17. Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the 51-year-old teacher had suffered stab wounds to her chest and back, while her 21-year-old son died from a stab wound to the chest. 'A third victim, the youngest son aged 13, remains in intensive care at Melaka Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition,' he said in a statement yesterday. Police said the suspect was arrested outside the family home, appearing dazed at the time. A 20cm bloodstained folding knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was found in a school bag outside the house. The incident is believed to have occurred around 5 am on Thursday, with the victims were found unresponsive and covered in blood in the living room. The teenager has been remanded for seven days until June 19 by Magistrate N.
