Dream of developed Uttarakhand becoming a reality: CM Dhami extends wishes on Civil Services Day
The Chief Minister stated that the dream of a 'developed' India and a 'developed' Uttarakhand are becoming a reality with the active participation and committed efforts of the civil service officers.
Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand Animal Husbandry Department has entered into a direct contract with the local livestock farmers through the ITBP. After this, in the first five months, 253 farmers from four border districts have generated a business of Rs 2.6 crore with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
Earlier, ITBP battalions located in the border districts of Uttarakhand were dependent on big cities for the supply of mutton, chicken, and fish till October 2024.
CM Dhami said that this scheme has yielded very positive results, with an increase in the income of farmers on the border, which will also reduce migration to the villages. He said that, along with this, he will work to strengthen the country's defence line in collaboration with the ITBP. Fresh food items will also be supplied to the ITBP.
The Animal Husbandry Department duly signed a contract with the ITBP regarding this scheme on October 30. Under this, 253 farmers associated with 10 cooperative societies and FPOs of Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Champawat districts are supplying live mutton, chicken, and fish to the nearest battalion of ITBP. In the first five months of the scheme, these farmers supplied a total of 79,530 kg (42,748 kg of live sheep and goats, 29,407 kg of chicken, and 7,374 kg of trout fish) to the ITBP.
On Saturday, CM Dhami flagged off 20 new fire tenders and fire vehicles included in the Uttarakhand Fire Service for public awareness. He participated in the program organised for Fire Service Week at Police Line, Dehradun.
During this, the Chief Minister honoured seven firefighters who won medals during the Third All India Fire Service Games and two firefighters who won the DGFS Disc Medal of the Home Ministry, Government of India. He also observed the stunts performed by the firefighters.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced that new fire stations will be opened soon in Bhimtal, Dwarahat, Gauchar, Purola, and Sahastradhara, a world-class training centre for the fire service will be established in Uttarakhand, and an incentive of Rs 10,000 will be provided to all the personnel of Uttarakhand Fire Service who performed their duty in the Maha Kumbh held in Prayagraj. National level agitation in support of evacuees: CPM
VR Puram (ASR District): CPI (M) national leadership has announced that they will fight at a national-level to address the problems of those displaced and evacuees by the Polavaram project. CPI (M) General Secretary MA Baby, Rajya Sabha floor leader John Brittas, and other party state leaders, including K Lokanadham, Thulasidas, and Balaram, visited the project's submergence areas in Chintoor, VR Puram, and Yetapaka mandals of Alluri Sitarama Raju district on Sunday. The affected residents presented petitions to the CPI (M) national leaders, detailing their struggles. The leaders assured them that their hardships would be brought to the country's attention at the national level. A public meeting was held at Ramavaram in the VR Puram mandal, chaired by local party leader Puli Bujji. Speaking at the meeting, Baby questioned why the state government, which is planning to build a capital at a cost of thousands of crores, is failing to resolve the issues of the Polavaram evacuees. He criticised the BJP, TDP, and YSRCP governments for their 'miserable failure' in fulfilling promises made to the displaced. Baby highlighted that according to the 2013 Land Acquisition Act, the displaced people should be provided with a dignified life and colonies with improved infrastructure. However, he stated that the ground reality is completely different. He expressed his dismay that residents are forced to live under tarpaulins as the roofs of their new homes leak just four years after construction. He also said that while the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Polavaram national project was valued at Rs 55,000 crore, the central government has only released Rs 2,200 crore. Of this, only Rs 7,000 crore were spent on rehabilitation, and Baby alleged that there were commissions and corruption involved. He demanded an investigation and legal action against those responsible. He also called for skill training and employment opportunities for the displaced and compensation of Rs 20 lakh per acre for their land. He urged party members to fight for these demands. John Brittas, CPM's Rajya Sabha floor leader, said hewas 'stunned' by the conditions in the Polavaram rehabilitation colonies, which lacked even basic facilities. He questioned why MPs from Andhra Pradesh representing the TDP and YSRCP are not raising these issues in Parliament. He advised the AP MPs to visit the rehabilitation colonies built in Kerala, where displaced people were provided with education, health, transport, and employment opportunities. He condemned the attempt to complete the Polavaram project without providing a proper rehabilitation package, describing it as a conspiracy to force the displaced residents to leave by submerging their areas. Brittas affirmed that the CPI (M) would raise the voice of the Polavaram displaced in Parliament. Central Committee member K Lokanadham stated that Polavaram is not just a project, but also the government's responsibility to rehabilitate those who sacrificed their land. He alleged irregularities in the contour calculations made by officials in Ramavaram, noting that of the 279 houses in the village, only the 166 on one side of the road were notified for displacement. He questioned whether the houses on the other side of the road would not also be submerged. Boppena Kiran, CPI (M) district secretary of Rampachodavaram, expressed hisgratitude that the CPI (M) has recognised the struggles of the Polavaram displaced as a national issue. Indian Diaspora floods New York streets for Independence Day celebrations
New York [US], August 18 (ANI): Thousands of Indian-Americans gathered in New York on Sunday (local time) to celebrate India's 79th Independence Day at the annual India Day Parade, one of the largest such celebrations outside Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu, who attended the parade, said it was a moment of pride to see the diaspora turn out in such large numbers. 'It is a matter of great happiness that members of the Indian diaspora in such large numbers gathered here in New York City. India's independence is being celebrated… The Mayor of New York is also present here…" Sandhu parade was organised by the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA). Its chairman, Ankur Vaidya, said the event reflected both pride and responsibility. 'It's a proud moment to be here with our fellow community members. A large diaspora has turned up for the celebrations… India is about to become the third-largest economy, so it is the responsibility of every diaspora member to act as a bridge between the two countries," he year's parade featured actors Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda as Grand Marshals.
