Sayyid Theyazin flags off 2nd Military Discipline Programme for school students

Muscat: HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, launched the second edition of the Military Discipline Programme for school students, set to take place in Dhofar Governorate from 13 July to 6 August.
The programme, overseen by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth with support from various military, security, and relevant government institutions, aims to achieve its intended objectives and national goals.
In a statement, HH Sayyid Theyazin emphasized that the programme aligns with national efforts to hone youth skills and channel their energies toward nation-building. This year, he said, it targets 850 students from across the Sultanate of Oman through an integrated training programme in Dhofar, focusing on reinforcing values of citizenship, identity, and self-discipline via cultural, training, and sports activities. These initiatives, affirmed HH Sayyid Theyazin, reflect the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 in empowering Omani youth as a national priority and enhancing their active role in development.
He concluded, "The successes of the first edition—evident in the heightened awareness, discipline, and responsibility among students—serve as strong motivation to further develop this second edition into a model training programme. It aims to prepare a generation capable of facing future challenges and contributing to the progress of our beloved nation."
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives that invest in youth potential and instill a spirit of dedication and belonging, supporting Oman's ongoing development and prosperity under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

Additionally, the partnership will provide training programs to develop national cadres and enhance media and marketing coordination to highlight these events, their objectives, and their impact. Dr. Amer Nasser Al Mata'eni, CEO of Oman LNG's Development Foundation, stated that this MoU reflects the foundation's commitment to supporting Oman's maritime identity and heritage while empowering the community—particularly youth and families—to engage in events that celebrate these values and traditions.

Oman's Optimist Team ready for the 2025 Optimist African Championship in Tanzania

Muscat: Five members of Oman's Optimist Team are currently preparing to travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for the 2025 Optimist African Championship. Getting underway on 2 August 2025, the week-long event will bring together 75 of the best Optimist sailors from 14 nations across the region and further afield. Representing Oman will be Khamis Nasser Al Meshaikhi, Mohammed Ziyad Al Qasmi, Khaled Yahya Al Sarihi, Tarteel Zaid Al Hasani and Hadeel Yousuf Al Mushaifri. All five competitors will be aiming to compete for podium positions as well as using the event as a key training event ahead of the IODA Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championships in October. The delegation will be led by Hashim Al Rashdi, Oman Sail's Head Coach Performance, and coached by Hassan Al Rahbi, Optimist Coach. Hashim Al Rashdi said, 'This is an important event in terms of gauging progress against sailors from across our region as well as another opportunity to fine tune the tactical and technical aspects of our sailors. We are now entering a busy period where there are four major events in the coming months. A strong showing in Tanzania will allow us to head home with confidence to build for the next event.' The Optimist team will also compete in the International Optimist Team Race in Swaziland from 14-17 August and the in the Oman Sailing Championship in Sur from 18-22 August. Focus then turns to Mussanah for the 14th edition of Mussanah Race Week, held from 15-22 October, and the IODA Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship following quickly afterwards from 25 October until 1 November.

The football turf is a pivotal addition that addresses the needs of the youth, providing a secure and well-equipped setting for both sports and social activities. I would like to extend gratitude to Bank Muscat for its robust support and collaboration in bringing this project to fruition. It will surely be a perfect gathering place for the community and a venue for various social events and activities.' Talib Saif Al Makhmari, Head-Community & Media Relations, Bank Muscat, expressed pride in the Bank's role in actualizing this project, which reflects its unwavering commitment to bolstering local sports infrastructure throughout the Sultanate. He highlighted the partnership with Musandam Governor's Office as a testament to the Bank's dedication to supporting local communities.
