Sancho to return to Man United after Chelsea decides not to make loan deal permanent
LONDON (AP) — Jadon Sancho is set to return to Manchester United after confirming his exit from Chelsea after a season-long loan spell.
The 25-year-old England winger sent
a post on social media
late Tuesday, saying he was 'grateful for the experience' at Chelsea.
'Big love to everyone at Chelsea who made me feel at home — teammates, staff and the fans,' Sancho wrote. 'Wishing the club all the best moving forward. Truly grateful, thank you Blues.'
Chelsea will have to pay a fee of five million pounds ($6.75 million) to opt out of its obligation to buy Sancho outright for 25 million pounds ($34 million) as part of the terms of his loan deal announced in August last year.
Sancho left United after falling out with then-manager Erik ten Hag and had not been expected to return. Ten Hag left the club in October.
Sancho
joined United from Borussia Dortmund
for 85 million euros ($100 million) in 2021.
He scored one of Chelsea's goals in its
4-1 win over Real Betis
in the Conference League final last week.

Lambourn set the pace early and then pulled away down the final stretch to win by about 3 1/2 lenghts. The 3-year-old colt, ridden by Wayne Lordan, entered the race at 13-2 after losing to 2-1 favorite Delacroix at Leopardstown in March. But Delacroix never looked like challenging this time and finished ninth. Advertisement Lazy Griff (50-1) was second and Tennessee Stud came third. It was O'Brien's third consecutive win at the showpiece race. 'Wayne gave him him an incredible ride," O'Brien said. 'Everybody knew what he was going to do, he's very straightforward, Wayne knew he'd stay so he went forward." Lambourn was sired by 2014 Derby winner Australia, who in turn was sired by 2001 victor Galileo. 'It's incredible for everyone that we trained Australia to win the Derby and his sire as well, Galileo. I'm just a small part of it, everybody puts in so much, I can't tell you what a privelege it is," O'Brien said. Coco Gauff levels French Open final against Aryna Sabalenka
Associated Press PARIS (AP) — Coco Gauff has leveled the French Open final at one set apiece against top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka. After a topsy-turvy opening set that Sabalenka edged 7-6 (5), the No. 2 seed responded with an immediate break and won the second set 6-2. Gauff raced to a 4-1 lead in the second set, her dominance highlighted by a superb backhand return that secured a double break. Although an error-strewn sixth game allowed Sabalenka to break back, the Belarusian player continued to be visibly frustrated, shouting after each mistake. She dropped her serve for a seventh time in the match and Gauff closed out the set with a confident hold. The match has been full of tension and momentum swings so far, amplified by the windy conditions. Sabalenka came out strong on Court Philippe-Chatrier, finding her stride early and pushing Gauff onto the back foot with deep groundstrokes and assertive net play. Sabalenka quickly built a 4-1 lead but a string of errors and double-faults allowed Gauff to get back into the match. Sabalenka managed to break again for a 5-4 lead yet her game continued to fluctuate between unforced errors and flashes of brilliance. Gauff stayed patient and composed, breaking back to level the score once more. They traded breaks again and the set, which lasted around 80 minutes, was decided by a tiebreaker. Sabalenka trailed 3-0 but recovered from the poor start to close out the set at the net. Despite a chance of rain later Saturday afternoon, organizers opted to keep the retractable roof open. Both women are aiming to win the title for the first time. Gauff lost the 2022 French Open final at age 18 but the American beat Sabalenka in the 2023 U.S. Open final, Gauff's only major so far. The 27-year-old Sabalenka, who is from Belarus, has won three majors but is appearing in her first French Open final. It is the first No. 1 vs. No. 2 final in Paris since 2013, when Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova, and just the second in the last 30 years.
