AD Jennifer Cohen recaps the 2024-2025 USC Athletics season in State of Troy
The 2024 USC Athletics season season has officially come to an end. It was another successful year for the Trojans, highlighted by bringing two more national championships home to Heritage Hall.
Last week, USC athletic director Jennifer Cohen shared her latest State of Troy update. Included in it was a recap of the Trojans' 2024-2025 athletics season.
'USC is synonymous with broad-based excellence across all sports,' Cohen wrote. 'And our accomplishments in 2024-25 rank with any in school history. '
'Heading into this week's NCAA Division I Outdoor National Track & Field Championships, we are poised to secure USC's highest-ever finish in the Learfield Directors Cup. After USC ranked fifth following the winter rankings, baseball's remarkable run to the NCAA Tournament and the final of the Corvallis Regional – plus postseason runs from men's and women's tennis, men's and women's golf, and a national runner-up finish for women's water polo – highlights how spectacularly our coaches and teams have performed across this spring.
'That success also helped us win the Crosstown Cup for the 14th time. It's always a thrill to Beat the Bruins, and points from women's volleyball, women's soccer, football, women's rowing, women's golf, women's basketball, men's volleyball, beach volleyball, men's tennis, women's tennis, and women's water polo bring the Cup back where it belongs.
'Our success this year also extended into the classroom. During the Spring 2025 semester, our student-athletes earned a 3.240 cumulative GPA, with 61 student-athletes earning a 4.0 and 440 student-athletes earning a 3.0 or better – all department records.
'I'm so incredibly proud of our student-athletes, faculty, coaches, and staff for all they have accomplished this year, and we couldn't do it without our donors, fans, and the entire Trojan Family.'
With the 2024-2025 season in the books, attention now shifts to 2025-2026. The USC football team will kick off fall camp in early August, marking the start of what should be another exciting year in Troy.

Notre Dame announces its broadcast crew for all NBC games in the 2025 season
NBC announces its crews for the Irish home slate, Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge for the primetime games (A&M, USC and Navy), with Dan Hicks and Jason Garrett on the daytime kicks (Purdue, Boise, NC State and Syracuse). With the Notre Dame football season kicking off in under two weeks, we found out today who will be on the call for all the games aired on NBC according to The Athletic's Pete Sampson. Both Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge return to call the primetime games with are Texas A&M, USC and Navy. Eagle has recently called more than a few Irish games, while Blackledge has joined him behind the mic. As for the others games on NBC, you'll hear the voices of Dan Hicks and Jason Garrett during the early afternoon contests which include Purdue, Boise State, NC State and Syracuse, who recently named former Irish quarterback Steve Angeli as their starter. Garrett played and coached in the NFL, then transition to the booth in 2022 with the Irish. Hicks has been calling Notre Dame games since 2013, but hasn't since 2016. It's a welcome return for him. It's a good crew that Notre Dame will have this fall, as there will some great announcers behind the mic. They should see plenty of great games this year, as the Irish look to be competing for a berth into the College Football Playoff. MSU hoops' Tom Izzo feels he's 'adjusted to this new era' of college basketball
Tom Izzo: 'I've adjusted to this new era more than I think. Sure, there have been some rough spots. But players are the most important thing to me.' The college basketball world is ever changing, and Spartans head coach Tom Izzo believes he's adjusted more than many believe. Izzo was speaking at the Larry Shyatt's coaching clinic on Wednesday, where he addressed a number of items in the world of college basketball. One of which was the ever changing nature of the college basketball landscape and how he's been forced to change his philosophy on a number of things. Per a post on social media from college basketball insider and reporter Jeff Goodman, Izzo believes he has "adjusted" more than he thinks, and acknowledged that it wasn't always easy for him to make the necessary changes. 'I've adjusted to this new era more than I think," Izzo said during the coaching clinic. "Sure, there have been some rough spots. But players are the most important thing to me.' This past year's success on the court for the Spartans helps vindicate that statement from Izzo, with Michigan State claiming the Big Ten title by more than three games and reaching the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. Hearing Izzo acknowledge that there have "been some rough spots" should also be promising for fans since it shows he isn't set in his old ways and is clearly adjusting to the new era of college basketball. New TV deal for Southland
The Southland Conference will get more exposure in the coming years. On Wednesday, the league announced it signed a multi-year agreement with CBS Sports to televise future league events on linear television. Starting in the 2025-26 season, CBS Sports Network will televise up to five men's basketball games annually, adding to the deal the league recently renewed with ESPN earlier this month. It is a big win for the conference and its commissioner, Chris Grant, who continues to try to build the league's brand on the regional and national levels. 'Adding CBS Sports to our media rights lineup is another huge win for the Southland,' said Grant in a statement. 'This partnership amplifies our momentum, puts even more of our incredible student-athletes on national television, and shows that the Southland brand continues to surge forward. We're thrilled to bring our basketball programs to an even bigger audience.' Southland men's basketball has been on the rise the last two years, thanks in large part to the elevation of the McNeese basketball program, which won its first NCAA Tournament game last season. Under head coach Will Wade, the Cowboys became a national sensation last season when they upset Clemson in the tourney. They fell to Purdue in the second round. After winning the last two Southland titles, Wade moved on to North Carolina State, while the Cowboys named Bill Armstrong the new head coach. The new deal with CBS Sports makes the Southland a growing mid-major league in terms of national exposure, something Grant has been trying to accomplish. 'Visibility is currency in college athletics,' added Grant. 'With CBS Sports joining ESPN as a Southland media partner, we're not just showing up—we're standing out.' The new deal will be a boost to McNeese, which is likely going to get more exposure as well as the league's current top dog. 'I'm thrilled about this new TV contract,' said McNeese State head coach Heath Schroyer. 'Not only did we get a new and better deal with ESPN, but having five more basketball games on linear TV is a game changer for the Southland. 'This enhances our brand as a conference in a way nothing else can.' Schroyer gave credit to his commissioner. 'What Chris Grant has done for this league in a very short amount of time is simply amazing,' Schroyer said. 'The league is in a great place, and this new contract with CBS signifies that. I couldn't be happier or more excited.' Saturday, the conference will be on center stage when Incarnate Word travels to Nicholls to help open the new football season on one of the ESPN networks. 'That game is a great opportunity for our league to showcase some of the talent we have,' said Grant. Last year, McNeese opened the season on ESPN linear at Tarleton State during Week 0.
