Peoria Riverfront Museum hosts its first ever car show as an exhibit send-off

Yahoo28-04-2025

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The Peoria Riverfront Museum is saying goodbye to its custom car exhibit in style.
Sunday was the last day of 'Built: American Custom Car Culture' at the museum.
Vintage cars, muscle cars and even a Batmobile lined Southwest Water Street, showcasing some of the coolest rides in central Illinois.
Everley Davis with the riverfront museum said it's the perfect send-off for the exhibit.
'What we wanted to do for the last day was to celebrate a piece of that car culture, which is car shows. We have a whole section out here with the slow pokes and their cars, and they were the first to produce a national car show and then just fill the rest of the space with amazing builds from our community,' said Davis.
The next exhibit taking the space will be the world's largest dinosaur from the American Museum of Natural History.

2nd Annual Tips for Taps Event: A Perfect Mix of Classic Cars, Motorcycles, and Dogs

EAST PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A local bar and grill recently hosted an event that brought together car enthusiasts and dog lovers alike for a good cause. Meadow's Avenue Tap in East Peoria held its 2nd Annual Tips for Taps event Saturday, combining the thrill of classic cars, motorcycles, and live music with a heartwarming mission to support animal welfare. Music filled the air, adding to the lively atmosphere as patrons enjoyed the show. But the true star of the event was the cause behind it all: raising funds for the Tazewell Animal Protective Society No-Kill Animal Shelter. The event featured a stunning display of classic cars, courtesy of Rusty Rockers Performance Car Club, alongside a few sleek motorcycles. Bryce Shields, secretary of the Rusty Rockers Performance Car Club, explained the group's motivation for getting involved. 'We wanted to do something for TAPS,' said Shields. 'There are other events already supporting TAPS, but when they approached us, we jumped at the chance. Absolutely, we wanted to help.' All the tips collected during the event went directly toward supporting TAPS, helping them continue their important work in rescuing and rehoming animals in need. In addition to the cars and music, the event also featured adoptable dogs, giving attendees the opportunity to meet furry friends looking for their forever homes. The combination of cool cars and adorable pups made for a memorable day of community support, entertainment, and the chance to make a real difference in the lives of animals. Meadows Avenue Tap to host ‘Tips for Taps' event on Saturday

EAST PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — One local bar and grill is hosting an event for dog lovers and car enthusiasts alike. Meadows Avenue Tap in East Peoria is putting on their Tips For Taps event on Saturday, which will feature Rusty Rockers' classic cars along with motorcycles and bands performing live music. The event is held to raise money for taps, which Tori Menke, executive director, said is vital for their shelter. 'Fundraising is huge,' Menke said. 'It's the only reason our doors are still open is from all the fundraising. So it's awesome when our community kind of helps us in that regard. They're really doing the heavy lifting when it comes to the fundraising portion and at an event like this.' Loki becomes first Peoria Police K-9 to have a swearing in ceremony Adoptable dogs will be at the fundraiser looking for their forever home, as most shelters have an influx of dogs right now. 'Intake is up and adoptions are down,' Menke said. 'It could be this time of year. People are planning vacations, trying to get end of school year stuff done, so adopting a pet is the last thing on their mind.' Anybody who goes to the event will also be able to eat from the open grill which will cook up brats, butterfly porkchops and ribeye steaks. The event goes from noon until 8 p.m. with music set to play the whole time. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
