Sky axing beloved channel after 16 years as viewers say it's the 'end of an era'
Sky is set to remove POP Max from all their platforms starting Tuesday, April 22.
The broadcaster had previously hosted the main channel POP Max and POP Max +1 on Sky Q and Sky+HD, and POP Max HD on Sky Glass and Sky Stream.
The channel was already taken off Freeview last year. POP Max, which started in 2008 as Kix and was rebranded as POP in 2017, will no longer be available.
Sky announced the news on its website, but other POP-branded channels will remain on the platform, although some are moving position due to the closures. On satellite, Tiny POP is moving from 618 up to 615, while Tiny POP+1 will jump from 629 to 619 and POP+1 is shifting from 619 to 618.
Viewers were shocked by the news. "End of an era with Kix and Pop Max," one wrote on YouTube.
"Can't say I'm surprised though. Taking it off Freeview back in December was the final nail in the coffin," another said. A third commented: "Didn't see that coming."
POP Max broadcasts animated programmes including Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir, Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series and Droners, reports the Express.
This is the latest setback for viewers after a number of channels were axed. In February this year, Sky TV and Virgin Media users lost access to Eurosport services.
This was due to Eurosport owners - Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) - moving content over to its TNT Sports and Discover+ platforms instead.
Sky isn't the only broadcaster axing channels. ITV has also removed popular channels from air recently. In September 2023, ITV's children's channel CITV stopped broadcasting, with their kids' content shifting to the digital-only streamed channel ITVX Kids on the ITVX app.
On April 16 this year, ITV announced further reductions with the closure of ITVBe, which was home to much of the broadcaster's reality content.
The channel, which only launched in 2014 and aired shows such as The Only Way Is Essex and The Real Housewives of Cheshire, will broadcast for the last time in June after just over a decade on air. Its shows will now transition to ITV2, which will premiere the new series of TOWIE in the autumn.

More than 14,000 Love Island complaints rejected by Ofcom
Ofcom received 14,167 complaints about the ITV reality series, including 24 about spin-off show Love Island: Unseen Bits, with the highest number of complaints coming on July 24, which saw 3,549 complaints relating to alleged bullying behaviour towards contestant Shakira Khan. Other complaints related to further alleged bullying of Khan, as well as fellow contestants Toni Laites, Yasmin Pettet, Meg Moore and Helena Ford, concern over contestants' mental health throughout the series, and Dejon Noel-Williams's behaviour towards Moore. Further complaints were made about the show's producers bringing contestant Megan Forte Clarke back onto the programme after she was dumped from the villa, and alleged race and gender based discrimination. An Ofcom spokesperson said: 'We carefully assessed the complaints we received about this series of Love Island. 'We recognise that emotionally charged or confrontational scenes can upset some viewers. But, in our view, negative behaviour in the villa was not shown in a positive light, and contestants were seen supporting or apologising to each other. 'We also took into account that the format of this reality show is well-established, and viewers would expect to see highs and lows as relationships and friendships are tested.' Love Island's 12th series ran from June 9 to August 4 and was won by Laites and Cach Mercer, while Khan and Harry Cooksley finished as runners-up. The show is presented by Maya Jama and sees contestants move into the show's villa in an attempt to find love and win a £50,000 prize pot. Previous Love Island winners have included Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti, Jack Fincham and Dani Dyer, and Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies, who have since split up. Couples who, despite not winning, remain together include Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen, Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury and Dami Hope and Indiyah Polack ITV declined to comment on the complaints.

Huge BBC show with star presenters surprisingly axed after just one series despite hit ratings
The shock decision has been made despite the show landing 3.2million viewers for the series opener IT'S OVER Huge BBC show with star presenters surprisingly axed after just one series despite hit ratings Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IT was the show that saw former Top Gear hosts Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris get back behind the wheel of a car together - this time searching for a cure to the dreaded mid-life crisis. But I can reveal that Paddy and Chris: Road Trippin' has already been parked after its debut series - with no second outing in the pipeline. A TV insider said: 'It certainly wouldn't have helped that just a few weeks before the show began on the Beeb, host Chris was slating the corporation following Freddie Flintoff's horror crash while they were filming Top Gear. 'He said that he'd warned show bosses that someone could be killed or seriously injured on the show claiming producers were devising increasingly 'stupid and dangerous' stunts. 'The timing was not great, but by that stage Road Trippin', which saw Chris reunited with Paddy without Freddie, had already been made and was ready to go out on air.' Paddy has always remained relatively tight-lipped about the Top Gear crash that caused horrific injuries to Freddie in December 2022. Freddie, meanwhile, claimed in his Disney+ documentary that the BBC treated him 'like a piece of meat.' It's understood that the BBC haven't entirely closed the door on doing more shows with Paddy and Chris, though there is nothing on the horizon. Yesterday a Beeb spokesman yesterday confirmed: 'Whilst viewers can enjoy all episodes of Road Tripping on BBC iPlayer now, there are currently no plans for any new episodes at the moment.' THE BBC has confirmed The Celebrity Traitors will air in October, three nights a week for three weeks. It will clash with ITV's new series of Big Brother. A similar show, the BBC's Destination X, is currently beating ITV's The Fortune Hotel with double the ratings.

ITV launch formal probe into Good Morning Britain after ‘humiliating blunder too big to ignore' left viewers outraged
ITV is investigating Good Morning Britain's Holocaust Memorial Day coverage after it failed to say victims were Jewish. Anchor Ranvir Singh said six million people were killed in Nazi death camps — but did not mention they were Jews. 1 ITV is investigating Good Morning Britain's Holocaust Memorial Day coverage Credit: X She went on to say others were targeted for being 'Polish, disabled, gay or belonged to another ethnic group'. The segment on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in January sparked outrage. Both ITV and Singh apologised for the 'mistake'. But insiders say bosses have now launched a formal investigation. A source said: 'Good Morning Britain is a flagship programme for ITV and to allow a blunder like this was too big to simply ignore. 'They are now investigating how this happened and the top brass want answers. 'ITV pride themselves on their news coverage but this was lower than sub par. 'Fingers of blame have been pointed but now the probe will uncover who allowed it to happen and there will be consequences. 'It has been hugely humiliating and is a headache the bosses over at ITV really could do without.' The Campaign Against Antisemitism slammed the segment at the time, saying if it was meant as a tribute to victims it 'failed abysmally and ignores the true nature of this horrific event'.
