Kevin Durant And The Spurs Have "Mutual Interest" In Creating A Brand New Superteam In The West
Kevin Durant And The Spurs Have "Mutual Interest" In Creating A Brand New Superteam In The West originally appeared on Fadeaway World.
It's been eerily quiet in San Antonio as the Spurs prepare for their next season with Victor Wembanyama, but the silence is not expected to last. As one of many teams looking to get better, the Spurs are expected to be active in the trade market and free agency this offseason, and one insider says they have ambitions of adding another star.

"They have a ton of assets. They have tradeable contracts, they have the No. 2 pick, they have No. 14 pick in this year's draft, they have a bunch of tradeable picks as well moving forward, they have all their picks," said Shams Charania on the Pat McAfee Show. "Whether it's a player like Giannis Antetokounmpo, or I think Kevin Durant is another guy. They had mutual interest at the deadline. I think they're gonna be looking very actively to see, is there a wing player we can bring in that could take us over the top?"
Following a miserable season with the Suns, Kevin Durant is rumored to be on the way out of Phoenix. Despite averages of 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this season, Kevin failed to achieve any success in Phoenix, and his days there appear to be numbered as one of their only remaining trade assets (besides Devin Booker).
At 36 years old, Durant isn't in the prime of his career, but his skills as a scorer, shooter, and playmaker can still elevate any team to contender status in the league. Even at this stage of his career, many teams are expected to consider a trade for Durant, and the San Antonio Spurs are at the top of the list.
The Spurs have not won a championship since 2014, the last run for Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker. After that core aged out, and they were forced to trade Kawhi Leonard, and the Spurs began a harsh rebuild that kept them at the bottom of the standings for years.

It wasn't until they drafted Victor Wembanyama in 2023 that their fortunes began to change. The French superstar has emerged as one of the best players in the world with averages of 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game this past season before being benched due to blood clots.
Wemby is expected to be back to full strength by the start of the 2025-26 campaign, but it's only put more pressure on the Spurs to build a proper team around him that can compete for a title. With De'Aaron Fox from the trade with the Kings, San Antonio has already taken steps to improve.
With Durant, however, the Spurs could become favorites in the West, potentially on par with teams like the Thunder, Nuggets, Timberwolves, and Rockets. Between Durant's perimeter shooting and Victor's dominance at center, the Spurs could challenge any team in the league on any given night.
Of course, the Spurs will have to secure Durant before they can complete their dream of a new "big three," and that task will prove much easier said than done. As an established superstar and a multiple-time champion who is still playing elite basketball, it's not every day that a player like him is available, and the Spurs will do everything they can to seize the opportunity.

Phoenix Suns' Embarrassing Stat Revealed After NBA Conference Finals
Phoenix Suns' Embarrassing Stat Revealed After NBA Conference Finals originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Phoenix Suns did not make the Conference Finals, nor did they even make the NBA playoffs despite boasting Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and a title-winning coach in Mike Budenholzer. Advertisement On Saturday, the Indiana Pacers beat the New York Knicks to set up a Finals date with the Oklahoma City Thunder, with tipoff for Game 1 slated for June 5. Indiana and Oklahoma City, regardless of what happens in the Finals, have a bright future ahead of them, and the Suns, on the other hand, are staring down a bleak few seasons. While the Suns are expected to trade Kevin Durant this offseason, their massive payroll is still the talk of the NBA world. Mandatory Credit: Rick Scuteri-Imagn Images© Rick Scuteri-Imagn Images Suns' Payroll is Embarrassingly High The Suns' roster cost them $214,371,340 this season, easily the most expensive in the league, although it gets even more embarrassing for Phoenix, especially considering how disappointing their season was. Advertisement "I believe that the Pacers and Thunder payroll, total payroll combined, is less than what Phoenix paid this year," said ESPN front office insider Bobby Marks. "I'm sorry for my Suns fans out there, because I'm casting you a stray." Marks is right. After the $188.49 million in luxury taxes the Suns paid this season, their final cost to field a 36-win team was $402.86 million. The Thunder and Pacers, both of whom won at least 14 more games than the Suns, spent a combined $334.12 million on their roster, avoiding the luxury taxes completely. Both teams built mostly through the draft and savvy trades for role-players or players on rookie contracts instead of shelling out massive sums for expensive stars who don't fit well. Advertisement Neither the Suns, Thunder, nor Pacers have won the NBA Finals in their franchise history, although the Pacers and Thunder are expected to be in the mix for the next several seasons. The Suns, on the other hand, remain the laughing stock of the NBA. Check out the Inside the Suns homepage for more news, analysis, and must-read articles. Young Thunder Star Has Message After NBA Finals Berth
Young Thunder Star Has Message After NBA Finals Berth originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Oklahoma City Thunder are going to the NBA Finals for just the second time in their young history. It will be the first time since 2012, when they took on the LeBron James-led Miami Heat. Advertisement Many Thunder fans thought that the trio of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden could challenge the big three of James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, especially after the Thunder took Game 1 of that NBA Finals. It proved to be false hope, though, as the Heat went on to win the next four games and secure the championship. Young Thunder star has message after NBA Finals berth This Thunder team feels vastly different than the one that made the Finals back in 2012. While they're led by a superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who took home the league's Most Valuable Player award, the team is more built on tenacious defense and depth. Advertisement Gilgeous-Alexander has displayed the ability to figure out just how defenses are adjusting to him and still burns them night in and night out. But it's the contributions they get from their bench that make them so dangerous. Players like Cason Wallace and Alex Caruso, providing sparks off the bench, have been a tremendous boost for this Thunder team. Ahead of the Finals, Wallace celebrated by posting some shots of him on his Instagram account with the caption "2x in his 2nd year just need 4 more." The "2x" refers to his nickname of Caso 2x and that him and the Thunder need just four more wins for an NBA Championship. Advertisement Oddsmakers heavily believe that the Thunder will defeat the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Finals, as the Thunder are -700 to win, an implied probability of 87.5%. If the Thunder continue to display the dominance they've shown throughout these playoffs, this series could be a short one. Peyton Manning: Bill Belichick won't return to ManningCast in 2025
When Bill Belichick took the job as head football coach at the University of North Carolina, A.D. Bubba Cunningham said Belichick will continue to make regular appearances on ESPN's Pat McAfee Show and on the Monday night ManningCast. Peyton Manning recently said otherwise. Via Drew Lerner of Manning told 97.1 The Fan in Columbus that the show will proceed without Belichick as a weekly contributor. 'Obviously, [Belichick] seems busy right now coaching college football,' Manning said. 'So, he won't be back this year. He'll be hard to replace, like, I thought his insight was great. But we'll try to probably go back to, kind of, rotating guests and, you know, having coaches and players, which I always like their insight, but also the actors and musicians that, you know, the common criteria to be a guest is you gotta love football. And I love, and Eli and I both love, being around people who love football as much as we do in all different walks of life.' Belichick was the first ever weekly guest on the alternative to Monday Night Football. It's unclear why circumstances changed from Cunningham saying Belichick will keep doing it in December to Manning saying, as of May, that Belichick is out. It would have been destination viewing, if only to hear whether a voice from off camera might declare at some point, 'We're not talking about this.'
