RBI to issue Rs 20 notes featuring signature of governor Sanjay Malhotra

Reserve Bank of India
(RBI) has announced that it will soon release Rs 20 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series carrying the signature of the newly appointed Governor, Sanjay Malhotra.
The design and security features of the notes will remain unchanged from those currently in circulation, with the only difference being the updated signature.
Sanjay Malhotra assumed office as the 26th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India on December 11, 2024, for a three-year term. The RBI clarified that all existing Rs 20 banknotes issued under previous governors will continue to be legal tender, news agency ANI reported.
As per the provisions of the RBI Act, 1934, all banknotes issued by the Reserve Bank, unless withdrawn from circulation, remain legal tender for payments and obligations across India. Additionally, Rs 1 notes issued by the Government of India also retain legal tender status.
Banknotes are printed at four currency presses. Two are operated by the Government of India through the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Ltd.
(SPMCIL) in Nasik and Dewas, while the other two are managed by Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Pvt. Ltd. (BRBNMPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the RBI, located in Mysuru and Salboni.
Coin minting is carried out at four government-owned mints under SPMCIL, located in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Noida. Coins are issued for circulation only through the Reserve Bank in accordance with Section 38 of the RBI Act.
For distribution of banknotes and coins, the RBI has authorised select scheduled banks to maintain currency chests. These chests function as storage and distribution centres on behalf of the RBI. As of February 28, 2025, there were 2,691 such currency chests across the country.

Bank officer in Kota embezzled Rs 4.6 crore from customers' fixed deposits to invest in stock market, arrested
JAIPUR: In a massive financial fraud case, a female officer at a private bank in Kota has been arrested for misappropriating over Rs 4.58 crore from customer accounts over a span of three years. The accused, Sakshi Gupta, was serving as a relationship manager at ICICI Bank and is alleged to have diverted funds from fixed deposits to invest in the stock market and faced heavy losses. Police officials revealed that between 2020 and 2023, Gupta illegally withdrew money from 110 fixed deposit accounts belonging to 41 customers. She exploited a system loophole known as the "User FD" link to access and siphon off funds without triggering alerts to the account holders. The fraud remained undetected for years and only came to light after a managerial transfer at the branch. When a customer recently visited the bank to redeem a matured fixed deposit, discrepancies in the account triggered an internal inquiry. Investigating Officer Ibrahim Khan said Gupta rerouted OTPs (One-Time Passwords) from customers' accounts to her own system by linking phone numbers of her relatives. This allowed her to carry out high-value transactions without the account holders being notified. "She developed a system that intercepted OTPs, ensuring customers remained unaware of the unauthorized withdrawals. We're investigating who else may have been involved — inside or outside the bank," Khan said.

Germany has come out very strongly in endorsing India's position on fight against terrorism: Ambassador Ajit Gupte
Berlin [Germany], June 7 (ANI): India's Ambassador to Germany, Ajit Gupte, expressed strong optimism regarding the visit of an all-party delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, calling it a significant step in strengthening ties between the two countries. Speaking to ANI, Ambassador Gupte highlighted the support for India from the highest echelons of German society and the depth of the bilateral partnership. 'It has been a privilege for us to receive the delegation led by Ravi Shankar Prasad. We have had a number of meetings today. He met, in the morning, the Vice President of the Bundestag, Omid Nouripour. Then he met a group of MPs, including Armin Laschet, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and Ralph Brinkhaus, who has been the Chairman of the India-Germany Parliamentary Friendship Group. Later, we had a meeting with the Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul,' Gupte said. 'In all these meetings, senior representatives reiterated their support for India's fight against terrorism, and they expressed solidarity. Foreign Minister has earlier said that India has the right to defend itself against terrorist attacks and in fact, Mr Nouripour went on to say that no country has suffered as much from terrorism as India has...' he added. Gupte noted that the delegation also held a luncheon interaction with several German MPs representing diverse political ideologies. 'Germany has come out very strongly in terms of endorsing India's position on the fight against terrorism, and we are deeply grateful for the solidarity that has been shown by German political leaders across the political mainstream because we met representatives and MPs from different political parties,' he said. Highlighting the strength of the Indo-German partnership, Gupte said, 'Germany and India are democracies, we share common values. Germany is our valued and trusted partner. Our trade and investment relationship with Germany is very strong, and it should be noted that India-Germany bilateral trade has exceeded 50 billion US Dollars, and this is more than 25% of India's trade with the EU.' He also noted that 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, established in 2000. 'We have a regular format of consultations at the highest level, inter-governmental consultations and there are many mechanisms in place. We are seeking to develop the multi-faceted strategic partnership and explore new areas of cooperation and very shortly after the new government was sworn, headed by Chancellor MeRz, our EAM paid a visit to Germany from 22nd to 24th of May. QuBeats wins Defence Ministry's iDEX ADITI 2.0 grant of Rs 25 crore to build Quantum Navigation Systems for Indian Navy
New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): Indian quantum deeptech startup QuBeats has won the prestigious ADITI 2.0 Defence Challenge to develop an indigenous Quantum Positioning System (QPS) for the Indian Navy. The award, which comes with a grant of Rs 25 crore (USD 3 million), will enable QuBeats to build next-generation high-precision quantum sensors that promise accurate navigation in GPS-denied or spoofed environments - a critical capability for modern military operations. QuBeats said in a release that it is disrupting conventional paradigms with its innovative quantum magnetometer technology in an era heavily dependent on satellite-based navigation like GPS. 'These high-precision sensors detect the Earth's unique magnetic anomaly signatures, enabling navigation that is entirely independent of GPS systems--reliable by day or night, in any condition. This groundbreaking capability offers transformative benefits across both military and civilian domains, addressing a potential market of USD 10 billion.
