Commanders will host under-the-radar cornerback on top 30 visit
CB Car'lin Vigers will have a top 30 visit with Washington this week per source. Interesting Day 3 possibility. Has length at 6-foot-2; did a nice job vs WR Matthew Golden when Louisiana-Monroe played Texas, from what I was able to watch. — John Keim (@john_keim) April 12, 2025
Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is known to get the most out of cornerbacks. Multiple cornerbacks have improved in each of Quinn's coaching stops, reaching levels they'd previously never reached.
In his first season with Washington, rookie cornerback Mike Sainristil was the breakout star. But the Commanders need another young cornerback after things didn't work out with former first-round pick Emmanuel Forbes. While Washington could select one at No. 29 overall in the 2025 NFL draft, the Commanders could look to later rounds to add more young depth to the position.
After trading for Marshon Lattimore, the Commanders re-signed Noah Igbinoghene and signed Jonathan Jones in free agency to join Sainristil. So, Washington doesn't necessarily need a starting-level cornerback right now, but more of a developmental type.
Enter Car'lin Vigers.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound cornerback prospect from Louisiana-Monroe began his career in JUCO before transferring to Louisiana-Monroe in 2022. According to John Keim of ESPN, he'll be in Ashburn on a top 30 visit.
Vigers' size and length make him an intriguing prospect, especially if he lands somewhere on Day 3. Vigers got the attention of NFL scouts with a strong week at the Reese's Senior Bowl this year. Vigers' excellent Senior Bowl week helped him after some strong senior tape, particularly against SEC foes Texas and Auburn.

Nationals pull off feat only Red Sox have managed since 1961

The post Nationals pull off feat only Red Sox have managed since 1961 appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Washington Nationals had one of their best offensive nights of the season on Saturday, in a win against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In the midst of that game was the greatest start Major League Baseball has seen for decades. Advertisement 'The Nationals' first 11 batters reached base as they scored nine runs before the D-backs got an out, which is the second most in the big leagues since 1961,' the Associated Press reported. 'The Boston Red Sox scored 10 runs before the Florida Marlins got an out in a game on June 27, 2003, according to Elias Sports Bureau.' Washington ended up defeating the Diamondbacks on Saturday, 11-7. The Nationals are now 28-30 on the year. The team has won seven of their last 10 games. Inside the crazy night the Nationals had against the Diamondbacks Saturday night was one for the MLB history books. Washington tied the National League record with nine runs before the first out, per The Philadelphia Phillies also accomplished that feat in an August game in 1948. Advertisement 'I've been a part of some crooked numbers, but that was a good one,' Nats first baseman Nathaniel Lowe said, per the Associated Press. 'It was nice to jump on a solid major league starter and put up a first inning like that. You don't see it often.' Washington found multiple ways to get on base in that first inning. There were 16 total batters that made plate appearances for the club. 'We put together some good at-bats, everybody did,' Nats manager Dave Martinez said. 'We spread the ball around the field. We ended up scoring a bunch of runs, which we definitely needed tonight.' The Nationals finished May with a 15-12 record, despite injuries to some of their best players. It's the first winning month for the club since August 2023, per the Associated Press. Washington is also a team riding a win-streak of four games. The club will try to make it five in a row when they play the Diamondbacks again on Sunday. Arizona has now lost nine of their last 10 games.

Nationals lose key reliever to injured list

The post Nationals lose key reliever to injured list appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Washington Nationals placed reliever Andrew Chafin on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to a hamstring injury, the team announced. In a corresponding move, Washington recalled right-handed pitcher Ryan Loutos from Triple-A. Advertisement Chafin, a 34-year-old left-handed veteran pitcher, signed with the Nationals in early May. He's pitched well for the most part through 16 outings, recording a 3.16 ERA across 11.1 innings of work. Washington holds a lackluster 30-39 record, though, placing the Nationals in fourth place in the National League East. As a result, Chafin was likely going to be a popular trade candidate ahead of the deadline in July. It remains to be seen how much time he will end up missing, but Chafin could still emerge as a popular trade candidate if he avoids too long of an injury absence. The Nationals will likely sell at the deadline, so veterans like Chafin are expected to be made available for trades. The Nationals' trade deadline approach will be interesting overall. They feature plenty of young talent and the future is bright, however, Washington was surely expecting to compete by now. Yet, their rebuild is seemingly still continuing amid overall underperformance. They could turn things around before the deadline in late July, but the Nationals have struggled to develop consistency throughout the '25 campaign. Andrew Chafin's injury absence will not help Washington's chances of bouncing back. He will be missed without question. What's next for Nationals? The Nationals will attempt to find success despite Chafin's injury absence on Saturday afternoon against the Miami Marlins. Their upcoming schedule is favorable with games against last place teams in the Marlins and Colorado Rockies. Washington needs to take advantage of the light schedule. Advertisement Saturday's Marlins-Nationals clash is scheduled for 1:05 PM EST. Meanwhile, injury updates will continue to be provided on Andrew Chafin's status as they are made available. David Peterson's ‘dream' reaction to complete-game shutout vs. Nationals

The post David Peterson's 'dream' reaction to complete-game shutout vs. Nationals appeared first on ClutchPoints. David Peterson pitched a complete-game shutout against the Washington Nationals Wednesday night, delivering a 5-0 win for the New York Mets. Peterson became the first Mets lefty to accomplish the feat since Steven Matz in 2019 – six years ago. Advertisement 'You dream of doing stuff like this… We try and go as deep as we can in the game. To be able to go all nine was something very special,' Peterson said after the game, via Anthony DiComo of Peterson was indeed special, silencing the Nationals' bats over nine dominant innings. The sixth-year veteran allowed no runs on six hits and zero walks while striking out six batters. He needed 106 pitches to finish off Washington. David Peterson gets the game ball after complete-game shutout for Mets Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images Peterson broke out for the Mets last season, going 10-3 with a 2.90 ERA, 1.289 WHIP, 133 ERA+ and 2.9 bWAR in 21 starts. However, he's been even better so far in 2025. The big lefty is 5-2 with a 2.49 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 137 ERA+ and 2.0 bWAR in 13 outings for New York. He's now up to eight quality starts on the year. Advertisement While the 30-37 Nationals may not be the most impressive club to shut down, Peterson has proven he can hold his own against the best of the best. The 29-year-old hurler had one of his most impressive outings of the season against the Los Angeles Dodgers last month. He allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in 7.2 innings of work, securing a 5-2 win for the Mets. And Peterson dominated Shohei Ohtani in the matchup, striking out the reigning NL MVP three times and holding him hitless in four at-bats. On Wednesday, Brandon Nimmo had a big day at the plate for New York, launching two solo home runs. Juan Soto also homered and drove in two runs and Pete Alonso knocked in his major league-leading 63rd RBI of the season. The Mets have now won five straight games and 15 of their last 20. After taking all three games against the Rockies in Colorado, New York has a chance to sweep its second straight series when the team takes on the Nationals in the finale Thursday. New York improved to 44-24. The team has a five game lead over the second-place Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East.
