In a first in UP, 25 automobile dealers lose trade licenses for a month

Time of India13 hours ago

In a first-of-its-kind action, the
Uttar Pradesh Transport Department
has suspended the trade licenses of 25
automobile dealers
across the state for a month, citing continued failure to comply with vehicle registration procedures.
A senior transport department official on Friday confirmed that this is the first time such disciplinary action has been taken against dealers for violating registration norms.
The suspended dealers, spread across districts including Lucknow, Barabanki, Sitapur, Kushinagar, Moradabad, and Prayagraj, have been barred from selling vehicles or uploading registration requests on the
VAHAN portal
during the suspension period that began on June 3.
After being repeatedly warned, the dealers were served show-cause notices on April 21 and May 15 this year after a detailed analysis of pending registrations from January to May 2025.
Despite being given adequate time, they failed to improve their performance or respond satisfactorily, the Office of the Transport Commissioner said in a statement.
The department asserted that these actions are part of an ongoing effort to ensure transparent and citizen-focused service delivery in vehicle registration.
"Persistent non-compliance with Rule 39 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR) and relevant provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Motor Vehicles Rules has led to this action, which is aimed at reinforcing accountability and discipline in the vehicle registration process," the statement read.
Among those penalised is a prominent dealership in Lucknow, Aarna Megacorp Pvt. Ltd., "highlighting the department's intent to enforce rules uniformly, irrespective of a dealer's location or scale."
In Barabanki, the affected dealers are Barabanki Auto Sales & Service, Bright 2 Wheel Sales, and Kalyan Motors.
Sitapur-based dealers Narendra Automobiles, Agarwal Auto Sales, and M/s Budhram Auto have also been suspended.
From Kushinagar, similar action has been taken against Gupta Automobiles and Gupta Auto Sales.
In Sambhal, Badar Motors faced suspension, while in Pratapgarh, M/s Janta Trading Company was penalised.
Dealers from Maharajganj include Shubham Automobiles and Chandra Sales, while Shakti Autos from Raebareli and M/s Auto Wheels from Jaunpur were also among the defaulters.
In Sant Kabir Nagar, Bharat Auto Sales faced suspension, along with Shyam Motors in Fatehpur and Shiva Auto Sales in Ghazipur.
RN Motors in Rampur and Shyam Motors in Auraiya were also on the list.
Further, Jai Auto Mobiles in Ambedkar Nagar, Cross Wheel Auto Pvt. Ltd. in Moradabad, and Uplife Solutions Pvt. Ltd. in Basti were suspended.
Saraswati Motors in Prayagraj and Vishal Motors in Unnao were among the final names on the list.
In a parallel move, the department has also issued show cause notices to 50 other dealers across the state with high registration pendency.
These dealers have been given a 14-day deadline to clear pending files or face similar suspension.

20% ethanol blending achieved after policy changes in 2014, says Fadnavis

1 2 Pune: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday lauded the efforts of Pune-based Praj Industries for its contribution to biofuel generation and said the sector suffered due to the lack of a policy during the UPA-led govt's tenure. It was only after NDA formed govt in 2014 that did India start achieving 20% ethanol blending with petrol that could help save crores of rupees in foreign exchange, he said. "The period from 2009 to 2014 was a struggle not only for Praj Industries but for the entire country. Before that, during Atal Bihari Vajpayee's govt, he formed a committee to study ethanol blending and a decision was made for 5% blending with petrol. However, the subsequent govt failed to implement the decision effectively," he said in Pune. The CM further said whenever the demand to increase the ethanol blending percentage was raised (during the UPA tenure), some people would claim that a developing country like India could not afford it by compromising food security. "The scenario changed after 2014 when the NDA govt, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, brought changes in the policy to increase the percentage. The country has achieved 20% ethanol blending due to which India is saving crores of rupees in foreign exchange, which we would have to spend on importing fuel," Fadnavis said at an event organised to release a book written by the founder president of Praj Industries, Pramod Chaudhari.

Tribal designer sends NID legal notice for erasing authorship

Vadodara: Tribal designer and honorary director of the Tejgadh-based Adivasi Academy, Sudhir John Horo, issued a legal notice to the director of India's premier design institute, the National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad, alleging erasure of tribal authorship. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Last month, the country's premier design institute was in the spotlight after Horo, an alumnus of NID, alleged that his name had been removed from the records pertaining to his past work and from course materials he presented at the institute as a visiting faculty member. Horo said that considering the continued silence and confirmed tampering of institutional metadata records, authorship attributions and academic file histories at NID, he served the second legal preservation notice to the institute on Saturday. "Following the original legal preservation notice on May 27 and submission of a comprehensive metadata correspondence report, this second notice is being formally issued to hold NID and affiliated institutional actors accountable for any deletion, redaction, renaming or unauthorized alteration of files, course materials, presentation decks, authorship attributions or archival records related to my contributions," the notice states. The notice says Horo was not credited for India's national branding projects, including the "India Future of Change", the "Indiafrica Project", the "Invest India" visual identity, TDF-linked curriculum or elective documentation, other presentations and related frameworks developed between 2010 and 2017. The national branding and public diplomacy projects were carried out with the external affairs ministry, some creations of which were showcased at the World Economic Forum's annual meetings and during the World Expo Dubai. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Jharkhand-born Horo said that instead of giving him individual credit, institutional phrases like "teamwork" were used, effectively erasing his authorship. An NID spokesperson earlier told TOI that the matter is being thoroughly analysed and investigated by an internal committee. The institute said it will be sharing the findings of the committee.
