Blue Bridge expected to close for 90 days this summer
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT)- Repairs to safeguard the iconic Blue Bridge in downtown Owensboro are scheduled to begin this summer. Owensboro Davco residents displaced by fire welcomed in Bowling Green The repairs will happen on both sides of the Ohio River and will include a new concrete driving surface. The repairs will require a 90-day closure, which is expected to begin after the Fourth of July holiday. Prep work is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 9, with single lane closures across the bridge lasting through June 11. The full closure will begin after the July 4 weekend to replace the bridge deck, make concrete repairs, and repair bridge joints. While the entire project is slated to last through November, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is limiting the actual bridge closure to 90 days or less and plans to conduct any work that does not require a full closure outside of that time period to reduce impacts on traffic.
