Thomson joins Kilmarnock after leaving Queen's Park

Kilmarnock have signed an "ambitious player with great ability" in midfielder Jack Thomson, says manager Stuart Kettlewell. The 25-year-old has joined the Rugby Park side on a two-year deal following the expiry of his contract at Queen's Park, where he played more than 130 games. The Rangers youth product, who signed a pre-contract with the Ayrshire club in January, says the move was a "natural step" for him."The club's got a lot of history," Thomson added. "The team is always competitive, competing at a really good level. It just felt like a natural step from where I've been. "My conversations with the manager have been really positive. When I saw he was announced, I was excited."You speak to the people you know in football and try to find out as much as you can and everything that was said about the manager was really positive."And then obviously speaking to him, I have the exact same impression. So I can't wait to get on the pitch and be working with him."And manager Kettlewell, a fellow former Queen's Park player, said: "Jack is a player I've inherited and I'm delighted that's the case. He is an ambitious player with great ability and I'm confident he will fit right into our squad."

‘I felt it was unjust' – Wrexham legend Paul Mullin accepts his fate and ‘doesn't know' why manager no longer trusts him

PAUL MULLIN has accepted his fate at Wrexham despite not knowing why Phil Parkinson has lost trust in him. The striker became a hero at the club following his arrival from Cambridge United in 2021. 3 Mullin, 30, provided many of the goals that helped catapult the club from the National League to League One in back-to-back promotions. However, last season he struggled for gametime as the Welsh outfit made it a historic three promotions in a row. Manager Parkinson favoured the likes of Steven Fletcher, Sam Smith, Jay Rodriguez and Ollie Palmer over Mullin last term. This saw the striker's gametime severely limited as he only made 26 appearances, scoring three goals. Mullin has now admitted that his journey with the club could be over. The striker made the revelation during a recent episode of the Welcome to Wrexham documentary. Mullin suggested that he would want to play just once in England's second division to complete his time at the club, but does think he no longer has a role. He said: "Just to play one game in the Championship with Wrexham would be worth absolutely everything. "I've enjoyed every minute here, and if we could get to the Championship, then that'd be phenomenal. 'He's got the fastest hands' - Wrexham star James McClean tipped to beat up Jake Paul in boxing fight 3 "From a personal point of view, I don't think I'll have any part to play in it from here on in." Mullin has also been left feeling resentful of Parkinson as he feels his absence from the squad has been "unjust". The run out of the team came after his return from a back injury and surgery from last summer. He added: "I let that get to me, to be honest, from where I've been to then only being allowed to play four games and finding myself being left out of the team. "I resented it and I carried that for weeks because I felt it was unjust. "I think I'm more annoyed now. It's the annoyance of training every single day, doing everything I can, and looking back on everything I've done. "I feel like I was a main part of why we got into this situation, and then I'm not being allowed the platform to get back there, or the opportunity to go and do it again. "It's difficult. I don't know what's caused him [Parkinson] to trust me less, but he clearly does." Mullin has scored 105 goals for Wrexham in just 165 appearances since his arrival. He will be further down the pecking order at the club following the recent arrival of Ryan Hardie. The forward was signed from recently relegated Plymouth Argyle on a three-year deal. The former Pilgrim netted 74 times in 248 appearances in Devon and is believed to have been signed after his £700,000 release clause was activated. 3

Lauren James reveals she 'never doubted herself' as Chelsea star returns to England training ahead of Euro 2025 title defence

Lauren James has said she 'feels good' after returning to training in a timely boost for England ahead of their European Championship title defence. The 23-year-old forward suffered a hamstring injury against Belgium in April, forcing her to miss the end of Chelsea 's treble-winning season. Sarina Wiegman nonetheless opted to include James in her travelling squad, taking the gamble that one of her brightest young stars could make it back in time for this summer's major tournament title charge in Switzerland. That decision now looks to have paid off, with James returning to training earlier this week. She was recorded walking on to the England pitches at St George's Park with a huge smile on her face. 'I feel good,' James said. 'I never really doubted myself, because I think as soon as you have a doubt in your head, then it's always negative thoughts. 'I always had in my head that I was going to make it. I didn't tell people that, I just took it day by day.' James also described how she leaned on her Chelsea and England teammate Lucy Bronze during her fightback from injury. 'Lucy and I always kept in touch. She always would say, 'You'll be there.' Then obviously having that support, it always makes you kind of think, 'Oh, yeah, I'll be there as well.'

Daniel Levy breaks silence on Ange Postecoglou sacking: ‘We want to win the Premier League'

Daniel Levy has broken his silence on sacking Ange Postecoglou and said that winning the Europa League was not good enough. The Tottenham Hotspur chairman declared that 'failure is not an option' as he set Postecoglou's successor as head coach, Thomas Frank, the target of winning the Premier League. Tottenham last won the league in 1961. 'You saw the outpouring of emotion with the parade. It was just incredible. We've won a European trophy,' Levy said after Tottenham's triumph over Manchester United in Bilbao. However he then added: 'But it's not enough. It's what we haven't done that is more important. We need to win the league. We want to win the Premier League. We want to win the Champions League. We want to win.' As expected Postecoglou was sacked – described as a 'unanimous decision' by the Spurs board – just 16 days after winning Spurs first trophy for 17 years and their first European trophy in 41 years which also qualified them for the Champions League. However Spurs finished 17 th in the Premier League, their lowest ever placing, having lost 22 of their 38 games, and this prompted the club to dismiss Postecoglou and bring in Frank from Brentford. There were no comments from Levy in the announcement to sack Postecoglou because – apparently – it was regarded as that collective board decision. He therefore talked for the first time about why it happened to Spurs' in-house media team where he sat alongside the newly appointed chief executive Vinai Venkatesham. 'You know I have got very broad shoulders. Failure is not an option,' Levy claimed. 'The desire to succeed - because it is so difficult I want to succeed even more. 'I'm very grateful to Ange. I don't regret appointing Ange. In his first season we finished fifth and in our second season we were over the moon to win the trophy. 'But we need to compete in all competitions and we felt that we needed a change. I've got an excellent relationship with him. I've told him he's always going to be part of our history. 'Himself and his family are always welcome back. It was a collective decision. It wasn't my decision. We do everything together. Emotionally it was difficult but we believe we've made the right decision for the club. 'Whenever you have a new coach it's always a fresh start. You always have different ideas. But we want to build on the success of winning a trophy last season. 'One of the things that stood out to me with Thomas is that he's clearly highly intelligent. Great communicator. Super human being. Plus all the other technical aspects that are obviously important.' Venkatesham explained that Spurs 'defined 10 characteristics that we think are important to be a successful manager at Tottenham Hotspur' as they identified Frank as their first-choice. 'We analysed in real detail, through our technical staff led by Johan [Lange, technical director], more than 30 candidates. We had a shortlist. We spent a lot of time at the shortlist,' he said. 'And Thomas was absolutely the number one candidate.'
