Live-in relationships againstIndian middle class norms: HC
Prayagraj: The Allahabad high court has observed that live-in relationships are against the values held by Indian middle-class society.
A single-judge bench of Justice Siddharth made this observation while granting bail to a man accused of sexually exploiting a woman on the false promise of marriage.
Passing the order on June 24, the bench expressed displeasure at the growing number of such cases reaching the courts. "After live-in-relationship has been legalized by the apex court, such cases are coming to the court because the concept of live-in-relationship is against the settled law in the Indian middle class society," the bench said.
The court further said live-in relationships disproportionately harm women, while men move on and even marry after such relationships end; it is difficult for women to find a life partner after a breakup.
The court made these observations while dealing with the bail plea of accused Shane Alam, who had been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Pocso Act for engaging in a physical relationship with a woman on the false assurance of marriage and later refusing to marry her.
As per counsel for the applicant, there is allegation against the applicant of committing the offence of rape of the woman on false promise of marriage.

The court, however, granted bail to the accused on the ground that he has been in jail since Feb 22 this year and had criminal history.

Man held in Jaipur for sexual abuse of minor daughters for 5 years
A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Jaipur for sexually abusing his two minor daughters for more than five years. The case came to light when their mother took them to a hospital on June 19 after they complained of stomach ache. A doctor at the hospital upon examining the girls sensed that something was amiss. Upon enquiry, the doctor came to know about the sexual abuse and contacted an NGO. An NGO official told The Indian Express, 'As soon as we got to know about this case, we immediately informed the police. The woman was initially apprehensive about filing a case against her husband due to the shame they would have to face from the society, so we counseled her.' 'A woman constable was assigned to talk to the woman in a bid to instil some confidence and prepare her mentally to record a statement. But she was very scared and reluctant to record any statement,' he said. A police officer told The Indian Express, 'We recorded the woman's statement through a hidden camera to be sure of the crime. We had to counsel the woman a lot to convince her to file an FIR. After the recording, the woman agreed to file a complaint and we registered an FIR against the accused and booked him under POCSO Act.' After this, the girls were examined by a medical board. After the medical reports confirmed the crime, the accused was arrested on June 23 and sent to judicial custody. The investigation so far has revealed that the accused had been raping his minor daughters for five years, police said. The children have been produced before the Child Welfare Committee and further counseling will be done by them.
