BTW, the Hatch alarm clock is on sale for Prime Day

NBC News08-07-2025
Amazon Prime Day is here, which means Prime members get exclusive access to mega deals across every major category including household essentials (think: toilet paper and soap, for example), beauty and wellness items, tech, vacuums and more. If you've been wanting to revamp your sleep routine, now's the time. Amazon is currently discounting one of the best sleep aids you can get: the Hatch sunrise alarm clock. It's currently 18% off — its lowest price to date. I live in a Hatch household: I have a Hatch Rest for my toddler and the Hatch Restore 3 for me. As someone on a years-long journey to break up with my phone, I was looking for an alternative to my phone that was not my '90s-era alarm clock, and this fit the bill. The whole point of the Hatch Sunrise 3 is to help people unplug, both before bed and in the morning. The sunrise alarm is gentle, not jarring — and since I'm a light sleeper, it always does the trick to wake me. And while I didn't necessarily need white noise to fall asleep, it's been a big perk to have more than 80 sounds to choose from when a neighbor's party goes late or my husband starts snoring. Unlike the previous iteration (the Restore 2), the Restore 3 has new sleep sounds, better audio, and more controls on the device that allow you to advance, pause, or swap content without needing to use your phone (which has an app). I can control the brightness level of the numbers on the clock, dimming them at night, and the bedside light button has been really helpful for when my daughter wakes up in the middle of the night. Plus, the alarm clock itself fits in with my decor. The app is intuitive to use, and makes it easy to customize both the Rest and Restore 3 for the whole family. I don't personally use the meditations, sleep stories, or soundscape options (and therefore don't have a Hatch+ subscription, which provides that), but even without those, I've still found it to be a worthwhile swap. (And the Hatch Restore 3 comes with a free trial to Hatch+ — I just never activated it.) I'm not the only one who likes it — many NBC Select staffers are also fans. 'I've used the Hatch for about three years and I couldn't imagine waking up or going to sleep without it,' says NBC Select reporter Zoe Malin. 'I love customizing the sound and color of my morning alarm and evening noise machine, and it makes for a more pleasant all around sleep experience. Plus, it looks so nice on my side tablet due to the linen material that it's wrapped in.' Want more from NBC Select? Sign up for our newsletter, The Selection, and shop smarter. Why trust NBC Select? I'm a writer for NBC Select who's covered deals and sales for five years. I found the Hatch alarm clock, at its lowest price in at least three months and will continue to monitor its pricing throughout the four-day long sales event. Amazon overhauls Wondery podcast studio, cuts 110 jobs

Aug 4 (Reuters) - (AMZN.O), opens new tab is restructuring the Wondery podcast studio by shifting its award-winning narrative podcasts such as "Business Wars" to Audible and consolidating creator-led shows into a new unit, according to a memo seen by Reuters. About 110 employees will be laid off as part of the process, while many Wondery employees will transition to other parts of Amazon, the company said in an emailed statement on Monday. Wondery CEO Jen Sargent will depart the company following a transition period, the memo said. Intense competition in the expensive podcast industry as well as a growing focus on creator-led video content have prompted audio streaming companies including Spotify (SPOT.N), opens new tab to diversify their podcasts as they look to lower costs and attract more users to their platforms. "As video podcasting has grown in popularity, we have learned that creator-led, video-integrated shows have different audience needs and require distinct discovery, growth and monetization strategies compared to audio-first, narrative series," Steve Boom, vice president of audio, Twitch and games at Amazon, wrote in the memo. Wondery was acquired by Amazon in 2021 and has seen podcast revenue quadruple since then as the studio expanded its slate to include video podcasts and creator-driven series, according to the memo. Under the new structure, Wondery's narrative podcast studio - home to shows such as "Dr. Death" and "American Scandal" - along with the Wondery+ subscription service, will move to Audible, the e-commerce giant's audio platform. Its creator-focused podcast team that produces shows including "Mind the Game", "New Heights", and "Armchair Expert" will join a new Creator Services group within Amazon's Talent Services division. This new team will continue to operate the creator-focused podcast studio under the Wondery brand. "By making these changes, we can better support creators in monetizing their content across multiple channels," Amazon said. Bloomberg News first reported on the Wondery overhaul.
