Texas A&M run rules Red Flash in tournament opener
COLLEGE STATION, TX (WTAJ) — Top seeded Texas A&M proved their ranking Friday in the Aggies' regional opener against Saint Francis, no-hitting the Red Flash in a run-rule victory.
It was a dreadful opener for Saint Francis, who rode plenty of momentum into the NCAA Tournament. It's the team's seventh trip to the regionals in eight seasons, but for this young team, the stage and lights shone too brightly.
'That is certainly not something that satisfies them how we played today,' said head coach Beth Krysiak. 'So the talk in the huddle was our season's not done. We had to fight to be in-season as long as humanly possible. And so all we got to do now is show the fight that we've had all season, throughout the chaos we've been put through. And so it's a little more chaos and a little more fight.'
Saint Francis struggled for a good chunk of the 2025 campaign, only to catch fire down the stretch, winning 11 of its last 12 games, including the NEC championship, but no team on its schedule compares to the Aggies who shared the SEC title with Oklahoma en route to a 45-9 season.
With the win, Texas A&M advances to play Liberty in a regional semifinal Saturday, while Saint Francis will face elimination against Marist. The game is Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

SCASD settles lawsuit with parochial students who were barred from extracurriculars
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) —The United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has confirmed that the State College Area School District has settled a lawsuit claiming that it discriminated against children from parochial schools. Court documents show that the district and the board of directors were being sued over accusations that extracurricular activities and education programs provided by the school to students, homeschool students and charter school students were not open to students from parochial schools. However, on June 10, the district agreed to settle with the students and guardians who were suing. Along with the announcement, court documents showed that several things were agreed upon and will be in place moving forward. Penn Highlands Community College's dual enrollment program helping local students The district agreed to make extracurricular activities and programs available to all eligible students in the district while also imposing student selection criteria. However, parochial students whose schools sponsor interscholastic sports will not be eligible to participate in the same sports at the State College Area School District. Similarly, the same rules will apply to any after-school program or club. If the parochial school offers the program itself or one of a similar nature, then the student will only be eligible for the one offered by the parochial school. WTAJ reached out to the State College Area School District for comment on the settlement, and the school solicitor gave the following in response. 'In the context of the issue of whether students who reside in the school district and attend parochial schools can participate in school district sponsored sports activities and teams, the school district had always believed that the school district could not permit such participation because, among other reasons, PIAA disfavored it. Through the litigation, the school district determined that this is not always the case. Because PIAA's position on this subject is not clear, the Consent Order provides essentially that PIAA must first approve of parochial school student participation on school district sports teams before there is any obligation on the part of the school district to permit the participation,' Scott Etter said. They also noted that when it comes to sports, if the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) declares a parochial student ineligible, then the school may also declare them ineligible without violating the agreement. Iowa baseball star earns Perfect Game All-American honors After a stellar junior campaign with the Hawkeyes, Iowa baseball ace pitcher Cade Obermueller has been named a Perfect Game third-team All-American. The left-hander is the Hawkeyes' first All-American honoree since Brody Brecht and Keaton Anthony earned it in 2023. The Iowa City, Iowa native earned the third-team All-America distinction after going 5-3 with a 3.02 ERA in 15 starts. He posted five quality starts and fanned 117 batters over 83.1 innings. His 117 punchouts rank second all-time in program history for strikeouts in a season. The highlight of Obermueller's 2024-25 season was his complete-game performance at Northwestern on March 4. In that game, he recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts while giving up only one hit, one run, and one base-on-balls in a 12-1 Hawkeyes run-rule win. Obermueller's third-team All-American honors add to his growing list of accomplishments from the past season, which now includes a 2025 All-Big Ten Tournament team and an ABCA/Rawlings NCAA All-Midwest Region first-team selection. While Obermueller could be in line for more honors following the conclusion of the 2025 College World Series later this month, a potential return for his senior season with the Hawkeyes could be vital to the program's success as they hope to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2023. Suggs faces charges of grand theft, scheme to defraud, and four misdemeanor counts for submitting false travel voucher claims, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The Florida A&M alumna surrendered earlier on Monday and was released on a $13,500 bond shortly after 2:30 p.m., according to court records. Per a statement by interim president Dr. Timothy Beard to HBCU Gameday, Suggs was placed on leave with pay until further notice and deputy directors of athletics Travis Glasgow and Brittney Johnson will run operations. Sugg's arrest and subsequent investigation and charges stem from her work with the Florida Sports Foundation, in which she served as president of the organization. The Florida Sports Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization that serves as the Sports Industry Development Division for the State of Florida. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement released a statement detailing the scope of their investigation. 'The investigation began in November 2024 after FDLE received a criminal referral from the Florida Department of Commerce's Inspector General with an audit of Suggs' business credit card purchases and corresponding travel reimbursements,' the statement read. 'The investigation revealed Suggs misused her FSF-issued credit card to make wire transfers and cash withdraws and personal purchases at casinos during business trips, totaling more than $24,000. The statement continued, 'When asked about the unauthorized charges, Suggs claimed some were for business meals and others were accidentally charged to the business card. She failed to fully repay (the foundation) for her personal expenditures.' In September 2024, Suggs was appointed Athletic Director at Florida A&M University, succeeding Tiffani-Dawn Sykes. A proud Tallahassee native and FAMU alum, Suggs has a longstanding connection to FAMU Athletics. Suggs recently facilitated the hiring of Florida State legend Charlie Ward to become the next basketball coach for the institution.
