Emergency crews battle a fire on McDermot Avenue in Winnipeg's Exchange District on Aug. 20, 2025. (CTV News viewer) A Wednesday morning fire in Winnipeg's Exchange District has forced road closures in the area. Firefighters entered the burning structure and attacked the flames, declaring it under control at 6:40 a.m. No one was inside the building at the time of the fire, and no one was hurt. A photo submitted to CTV News shows fire crews on scene Wednesday morning at Johnny G's restaurant, as smoke billows from its broken windows. Crews are expected to remain in the area throughout the morning. McDermot and Bannatyne avenues are closed between Rosie and Main streets. The fire is under investigation. There are no current damage estimates.

St. Clair College has announced it has gone cashless at all sporting events. St. Clair College has announced it has gone cashless at all sporting events. St. Clair College has confirmed all venues and events for Saints Athletics will now be cashless. This went into immediate effect, as the college said it's the right time to move to a cashless system. Only cards and contactless payments will be accepted in the 2025-26 varsity season. The college added that this will help shorten lines, create more efficient customer service, and keep cash from moving through multiple different hands.
