With the inception of NIL and its introduction to the college sports landscape, university student-athletes have an opportunity to make more money throughout their college careers than some professional athletes make on a yearly basis. There's arguably no bigger co-sign than a partnership with Nike and Alabama Football wide receiver Ryan Williams just made his dreams a reality with his latest deal.

Ryan Williams burst onto the college football scene as a freshman in 2024, notching 48 receptions for 865 yards and eight touchdowns through the air. He also added two rushing touchdowns throughout the season on only four attempts, immediately making an impact as one of the most explosive players in the country by the end of the year.
Heading into his second season, Williams is already garnering attention as an incoming Heisman hopeful. Nike immediately took notice of his debut season, making him just the second NCAA football player (Shadeur Sanders) to receive an NIL deal. Sanders turned his NIL deals into an NFL contract and we can expect a similar path from Williams as he evolves.
Nike signs Alabama WR Ryan Williams
In a press release, Williams explained his choice of Nike: 'Since I can remember, Nike has always been the best fit on and off the field. … When I had the opportunity to join the Nike family, I knew I had to just do it.' On3 sports is valuing Williams' current NIL deals at around $2.7 million, already making him one of the highest-paid college athletes of the last few years.
This, of course, is in addition to Williams being named a cover athlete for the upcoming EA Sports College Football '26 video game. With his Nike deal already behind him, expect Ryan Williams to be the next big thing in college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide this upcoming season.

It was a good day for the Commanders offensive tackles

Jayden Daniels was apparently forced to move out of the pocket several times on Wednesday. The Washington Commanders were without left guard Brandon Coleman, recovering from a foot injury, which left him limping last weekend in practice. Coach Dan Quinn said early Wednesday that it is nothing serious, yet as a precaution, the Commanders kept Coleman off the scrimmage field on Wednesday. The Commanders thus started Laremy Tunsil (LT), Andrew Wylie (LG) Tyler Biadasz (C), Nick Allegretti (RG) and Josh Conerly (RT). Following the joint scrimmage, Mitchell Tischler of Monumental Sports reported that Tunsil had a good day, including one play where he locked up a Patriot linebacker and drove him off the playing field. On another play, he locked up a lineman and drove him down into the ground, showing he's not a bad run-blocker either. Good news for Commanders fans? Tischler says that the news of the offense was that Josh Conerly really had a good scrimmage. Conerly is Washington's first-round choice out of Oregon, drafted 28th overall. Conerly was playing at right tackle on Wednesday and came to play. Tischler said Conerly stood up well in one-on-one drills and working against edge rusher Harold Landry. This is very encouraging if Conerly is ready to go early in the season at right tackle. A key figure will be Wylie because of his flexibility to start at either tackle or guard when needed. Sam Cosmi, recovering from his ACL tear in January, might result in Wylie starting at right guard. Tischler also said of the four units (Patriots offense, Patriots defense, Commanders offense, Commanders defense), clearly the best of the four was the Commanders offense, and had this been an actual game, the Commanders would have been scoring several times. Barring injury, the Commanders this season could have two 2024 starters (Wiley and Allegretti) being reserves on the line for the 2025 team. Two 2024 starters providing depth and breathers for 2025 starters is good news. This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: It was a good day for the Commanders offensive tackles

Dick's Sporting Goods Launches Entertainment Studio

Dick's Sporting Goods is launching its own in-house entertainment studio to get closer to sports fans with original unscripted series to fuel their own athletic passions. Cookie Jar & A Dream Studios, a new content and production studio to lean into unscripted sports themed series, follows the retailer using Hollywood production partners and filmmakers to tell stories through the lens of sport, starting in 2014. More from The Hollywood Reporter Disney Revenue and Profits Rise as It's "Experimenting Like Crazy" in New Streaming Push ESPN Adds WWE Events and More NFL Content, as Streaming Service Sets Aug. 21 Launch NFL to Acquire Stake in ESPN as Part of Blockbuster Deal With Disney 'Dick's believes that sports have the power to change lives. And we've seen through our work how true that is for so many who have excelled, triumphed against the odds, and been defeated in sport. There are so many incredible and inspiring human stories that deserve to be told, and we could not be more excited to showcase how individuals, teams and communities are shaping sport, bringing people together and unifying and building communities for thousands,' said Mark Rooks, vp of Creative, Entertainment & Sponsorships at Dick's Sporting Goods. Interest in sports-themed programming around athletes at the top of their game has grown with Netflix series like Formula One: Drive to Survive and ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary series. Retailers that traditionally advertised their wares on live games now look to original scripted and unscripted series in the hope consumers may embrace new brands or products through TV content they view in the streaming era. Over the last decade, Dick's Sporting Goods has produced five feature-length movies and ten short or episodic documentaries. The first feature doc was We Could Be King, which earned an Emmy Award for outstanding sports documentary. A second Sports Emmy came with The Turnaround, a documentary about Philadelphia Phillies' superfan Jon McCann, who inspired a 2023 standing ovation for Phillies shortstop Trea Turner that turned the team's season round. Upcoming projects from Cookie Jar & A Dream Studios include Big Dreams: The Little League World Series 2024, an ESPN documentary to bow Aug. 12 and centered on the iconic American youth sporting event. The film is produced in partnership with Imagine Entertainment and MLB Studios. 'Big Dreams is a great example of the kind of projects Cookie Jar & A Dream Studios aims to produce. Being able to share big sports moments with fans is something that drives our team, and we look at the upcoming years with great excitement as we know there will be so many unforgettable stories deserving of the spotlight,' Rebecca Covington, senior director, creative production at Dick's Sporting Goods said in a statement. The name of the studio, Cookie Jar & A Dream, is inspired by the company founder Dick Stack in 1948 and aged 18-year-old borrowed $300 in savings from his grandmother's cookie jar to open a bait-and-tackle shop in Binghamton, New York.
