She has written a book about her experience too.
Sophie adds: "It's been a long process and I've documented it very openly. For me it's about raising awareness and also helping other trauma survivors. I'm very honoured, now they've put this surgery to be available on the NHS for many more patients. It can be seen as a medical breakthrough.
"I'm entering the era of me feeling my true best self as a woman. I'm proud of who I am and the journey that I've been on. Dating has been on the back burner but now, If anything, I'm more ready now to date than I have been throughout my whole 20s."
Sophie is looking for "someone who is fun, spontaneous, who has a lot of jokes and who is attentive". Before the villa, the islander says she has been unlucky in love only dating men who were "draped in red flags and 'do not cross' signs".

But they never guess correctly so it works really well if you don't want to give a guy your number. I'm originally from Guinea Bissau. If they're close and I really fancy them, I'll give them my number anyway."
The most unusual thing that has happened to her was when she helped her mum give birth to her baby sister at home. She says: "I was busy writing an essay for university when my mum went into labour. I called an ambulance and a woman on the phone told me what to do. I'd say it was only a 15 minute labour! I gathered hot towels and a shoelace for the umbilical cord. I told my lecturer what happened because I couldn't submit my essay and he thought I was lying! He said there were easier ways to get an extension."
So what kind of man is she looking for? "A tall man with a handsome face," Alima says. "You know when you just look at a guy and they have that Disney prince look to them? That's it."

Scottish Love Island star Laura Anderson opens up on 'health struggle' on holiday
Scottish Love Island star Laura Anderson has opened up on her health struggles while enjoying a holiday with her footballer boyfriend. The 36-year-old has shared moments from their break in the Maldives at the luxury Kandima beach resort. Taking to Instagram, the mum has spoken up about her battle with melasma, a common skin condition in adults which can cause darkening of the skin caused by increased melanin, reports The Record. READ MORE: Lorraine Kelly sparks backlash on ITV show after 'absolutely disgusting' segment READ MORE: Louise Redknapp admits 'it's a bit harder' as she opens up about age-gap romance "Off to see my laser guru @rebeccatreston @ Please sort out my melasma I've missed you." She also asked her followers if they would like treatment recommendations or advice, if anyone may be suffering from a similar skin condition. "Do you suffer from pigmentation/melasma/sun spots?," she asked. "Okay guys I have been in the sun all day, always wear my factor 50 and my hat but I think with melasma you still get affected with just the heat so I always try and keep my face really cool. "That's a tip that I learnt, but I'm going to see Rebecca now but look," she gestured as she pointed her face towards the camera. "I don't know if you can see this all kind of multiplied again come back, this is me completely bare faced." She continued: "You can see it here there's definitely a difference between freckles. I love freckles, love to embrace them, but sun spots, melasma, pigmentation is different and can be quite ageing. "I quite like the little bits on my lips but I just want to remove that and Rebecca has all the best lasers in Dubai," as she gestured to her cheekbones. "She always teaches me things and has new techniques that I've never heard of before which are incredibly effective." The star added: "So we are going to go today with pico, really quick easy. I don't think there's any down time so yeah, let's get rid of this." Elsewhere, Laura took to Instagram last week following her house move in a gushing post over how lucky she is in her new home alongside daughter Bonnie, who she shares with ex Gary Lucy. She also gave a special mention to boyfriend Clark, 31. "Busy and booked, The Man of my dreams and a daughter to die for. I never ever thought I'd have all 3," Laura wrote. Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages. Sharing snippets with her 1.5 million Instagram followers, Laura noted, "Here's to the next chapter," alongside a key and house emoji. She added: "And a huge shout out to @ssremovals for moving my life AGAIN! That Ikea wardrobe will officially never be assembled again I promise." The first clip showed the couple sharing a kiss in the expansive outdoor garden. Another video clip showed Laura holding daughter Bonnie as she stood at the front entrance of her new home with Clark. The home boasts grand floor to ceiling windows offering plenty of natural light, looking out onto the impressive garden. Bonnie even has her own play room, which Laura showed off to fans previously. Bonnie and her dog Buddy will certainly have no lack of space in the new home. The influencer was delighted to update fans that her dog was finally coming home, after being away from them for a few months when he didn't settle in her previous Glasgow flat.

What Happened to Yulissa on 'Love Island USA'? Here's What We Know
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Yulissa Escobar's sudden exit from Love Island USA during the second episode of Season 7 has stirred speculation among fans. The departure, shown without context or explanation, left her co-stars and viewers in the dark. The twist was revealed with show narrator Iain Stirling announcing "Yulissa has left the villa" about 18 minutes into the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Yulissa, who had been coupled up with Ace Greene, was then noticeably absent from the villa. What we know What the show didn't mention—but what fans already knew—was that Yulissa had come under fire online after old podcast clips surfaced revealing a use of racial slurs. In the recordings, which spread across social media as the show launched on Tuesday night, Yulissa can be heard using the N-word multiple times while discussing past relationships, as first reported by TMZ. Newsweek has contacted both Yulissa and Peacock via email for comment. Yulissa Escobar (left) exited "Love Island USA" in the show's second episode of Season 7. Episode 2 delivered on the drama promised in the season premiere, picking up right where host Ariana Madix left viewers hanging—with the introduction of two new Bombshells, Cierra Ortega and Charlie Georgiou. After a round of raised hands from interested Islanders, Cierra and Charlie each selected one contestant for an overnight hideaway date: Nicolas Vansteenberghe and Chelley Bissainthe. Sparks flew, with Nicolas and Cierra sharing a kiss. The villa also saw its first moments of tension. Jeremiah Brown confronted Huda Mustafa over whether she kissed another contestant during a game. After clearing the air in the morning, their relationship appeared back on track. Meanwhile, Taylor Williams and Olandria Carthen navigated a similar hiccup with ease when she admitted to kissing Ace Greene. As the day progressed, the Bombshells made their rounds, getting to know the rest of the cast. Jeremiah stayed loyal to Huda, despite a chat with Cierra, and Belle-A Walker gracefully handled Nicolas breaking the news about his new connection. Islanders were asked if they wanted to stay in their current pairings or opt to recouple. Cierra ultimately chose Nicolas, while Charlie was left single after no women stepped forward for him.

ADHD is not really on the rise, study suggests
ADHD is not rising despite public perception that cases are increasing, a study suggests. Researchers at King's College London found little evidence to suggest that the prevalence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder was getting worse, and said many studies suggesting an increase were of too low quality to be trusted. Dr Alex Martin, lecturer in psychology at King's, said: 'The media has been concerned about a 'surge' in ADHD diagnoses for several years. 'While assessments and help-seeking may be increasing, our study has shown significant gaps in the tracking of ADHD prevalence, resulting in a frustratingly unclear picture. 'The best data we have suggests that there has been no meaningful increase in ADHD prevalence, but most of the research is too biased to draw conclusions from.' Anecdotal reports suggest that the UK has had an unprecedented rise in the number of children and adults seeking support for ADHD, with significant backlogs of people currently awaiting assessment. The demand for ADHD diagnoses has exacerbated pressures on the NHS, with a survey by the Pensions Committee in 2023 finding that about one in four people faced delays of two years while one in 10 waited 10 years for an assessment. There were fears that the Covid pandemic and social media may have exacerbated the problem, with many more youngsters experiencing mental health issues during lockdowns. But while calls for assessments are growing, there is little evidence to suggest it was leading to a rise in the overall prevalence of the condition, the study found. The team discovered that studies suggesting ADHD rates were rising were of low quality, using self-reporting surveys, or reported symptoms from parents and teachers, rather than actual clinical diagnoses. Researchers said that the demand for assessments might be driven by increased awareness, rather than more cases. Between January and May last year, there were 25,080 media articles published on ADHD compared with 5,775 articles in the same period in 2014. The growth of the 'neurodiversity movement' may also have played a role in raising the profile of the condition and encouraging more people to seek help. Edmund Sonuga-Barke, professor of developmental psychology at King's, said: 'The neurodiversity movement, with its concentration on personal lived experience and self-compassion as the ultimate reference point for decision-making, is likely driving cultural change. 'In this regard, it's potentially increasing rates of self-referral among adolescents and adults.' In the UK, it's estimated that ADHD affects about 3-5 per cent of children and adults. The US has far higher rates, with nearly 12 per cent of youngsters diagnosed with the condition. This has led to a crackdown by the Trump administration on over-prescribing of ADHD drugs to youngsters. Prof Sonuga-Barke said US and UK rates were likely to be similar and he agreed there should be an investigation. 'I think the prevalence of ADHD is very similar in the US and the UK,' he said. 'I think there's grounds for an investigation to the impact of the prescriptive prescribing rates in the States.' A recent BBC investigation suggested that at least 196,000 adults were on NHS waiting lists for ADHD researchers said that greater awareness of the condition might also mean that young people are now using the term ADHD as 'language of distress', to signal they are struggling, even though they do not have the condition. Prof Phillip Shaw, director of the King's Maudsley Partnership for Children and Young People at King's, said: 'There's both an increased recognition and less stigma around ADHD, which means that people are increasingly coming forward for assessment. 'My hunch is that there's such a huge awareness of ADHD that it's often used as a language of distress. 'It's sometimes used, I suspect, by young people who are expressing that they are struggling, particularly at school, and need help.' This study was funded by NHS England and was conducted by the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Emergency Preparedness and Response. Broaden your horizons with award-winning British journalism.
