Trans community praised for bravery in new film

Yahoo10 hours ago
Film-makers have praised the bravery of the trans community in Cumbria for sharing their experiences in a new documentary.
I ME US chronicles the stories of those living in the county who are transgender, non-binary or gender non-conforming.
Mason, who features in the film, which is being screened locally in July and August, described how his family struggled with his decision to transition only for his brother to then offer him some shirts in support.
"If just one person can see the film and feel more comfortable, or happy in themselves, then I've done enough," he said.
Producer Debbie Sweeney, from Carlisle-based Eden Film, said there was "a lot of prejudice" which made it difficult for some people to "fit in", adding that Cumbria has "a lot of keyboard warriors".
Mrs Sweeney, who previously worked as a college lecturer, said she found that LGBTQ+ students would often want to move to bigger cities because they could find a "sense of belonging" there, and not feel so visible.
"Somewhere like Cumbria, there's a lot of prejudice and they maybe find it hard to fit in, so it's nice that we can produce a film like this," she said.
Director Paddy Sweeney said those who took part had been brave to tell their stories on camera so candidly.
He said they had filmed with someone who then called to drop out of the project around the time of President Trump's inauguration.
Mr Sweeney said the participant was worried about "having their face out there", and the repercussions it may have for his job.
The film is part of a heritage lottery-funded project, which was commissioned by Pride in North Cumbria (PINC) LGBT+ Youth.
It is being screened for free in venues across Cumbria over July and August, including Rheged cinema in Penrith and Tullie in Carlisle.
Producer and project manager at PINC, Pam Eland, said they wanted to take a snapshot of community "to get their voices heard out there".
She added they were looking to organise showings of the "emotional" film worldwide.

Princess Charlotte Shows Off Pink Summer Nails, Following Kate Middleton's Manicure Rule

Princess Charlotte attended Wimbledon with her family, sporting a fun summer nail polish The pink color followed the royal family's go-to hue, as they usually stick to neutral or light manicure shades The outing marks Princess Charlotte's third time attending Wimbledon alongside her mother, Kate MiddletonBlue was the color of the day for the royal family's Wimbledon outing, but Princess Charlotte's pink nail polish was also a style standout. The 10-year-old princess joined mom Kate Middleton, dad Prince William and older brother Prince George at the gentlemen's singles final on July 13, cheering on Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner from the front row of the Royal Box at Centre Court. The foursome coordinated in blue ensembles for the sporting event that's a highlight on the royals' summer calendar, with Charlotte sporting a white dress with navy details and a blue bow in her hair. But while clapping and covering her mouth in reaction to the tennis match, Princess Charlotte also showed off that her nails were painted a pink shade during the outing. The choice of hue followed Princess Kate's go-to manicure trend: light pinks and other more neutral nail polishes. The late Queen Elizabeth also favored neutral nails, famously a big fan of Essie's "Ballet Slippers" shade. The history-making monarch first became associated with the sheer pink polish in 1989, when her hairstylist wrote to founder Essie Weingarten and called it "the only color Her Majesty would wear," the brand website states. Though there's no official rule when it comes to manicure colors, Queen Elizabeth reportedly found colorful nail polish distracting. Bright hues are not banned for family members, but nude colors are often seen as a more practical choice for royal engagements. While the Princess of Wales, 43, is usually seen with a non-distinct manicure, she's experimented with bolder colors in the past. In one such departure, Kate sported bright red nail polish when she attended the royal family's Easter church outing in 2023. Sunday's outing marked Princess Charlotte's third time attending Wimbledon. She first joined Kate, William and George at the famed tennis tournament in 2023, returning last year for a special girls' day out with her mom and aunt Pippa Middleton. The outing marked a rare public appearance for the Princess of Wales amid her cancer treatment, which kept her out of the spotlight for most of 2024. Prince George, Princess Charlotte join Prince William and Princess Kate at Wimbledon

Prince George and Princess Charlotte made a surprise appearance at Wimbledon alongside their parents, Prince William and Princess Kate, to watch the final match of the tournament. In a photo shared by Wimbledon's official X account, the royal family is seen smiling as they walk together. Princess Charlotte appears to wave to the crowd while William looks on proudly, and Kate leads the way at the front of the group. The victory also marked Sinner's fourth Grand Slam title. The royal family's Sunday outing came a day after Princess Kate made her first appearance at Wimbledon this season, continuing a longstanding royal tradition tied to the iconic tournament. After Saturday's women's final, Kate also presented the championship trophy to Iga Świątek, who delivered a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Amanda Anisimova. The weekend appearance came shortly after Kate opened up about the challenges of recovering from cancer treatment. During a visit to Colchester Hospital in Essex earlier this month, she shared that the post-treatment period has been unexpectedly tough. "You put on a brave face through treatment," she said at the time. "But actually, the phase afterwards is really difficult. You have to find your new normal and that takes time." Kate has been a fixture at Wimbledon for over a decade, attending nearly every year since marrying Prince William in 2011 -- except in 2013, when she was advised not to travel late in pregnancy, and in 2020, when the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fans Think Kate Middleton Already Has a Replacement Lined up for a New Stylist & It's an Old College Pal

Chances are, if you're a royal fan, you've heard of the name Natasha Archer. For well over a decade, she was Catherine, Princess of Wales's Personal Assistant and stylist. Not only was she a loyal member of Catherine, also known as Kate Middleton's, team, but she and Kate became fast friends. However, in a shocking turn of events, People revealed earlier this week that Archer is leaving Kensington Palace. Now, people are wondering who Kate's new stylist will be, and fans think they already know who it will be. The musings of Archer's replacement originally came from Royal Fashion Daily, and Hello Magazine reported even more details on the theory. But if you need a summary: fans believe Archer's successor could be Virginia Chadwyck-Healey. More from SheKnows Jennifer Aniston's Hypnotist BF's Previous Dating Life Has Raised Eyebrows Virginia Chadwyck-Healey, also known as Ginnie, is a fashion guru, to put it lightly. She worked at British Vogue for 12 years, launched VCH Style in 2018, and as of 2025, she also takes on luxe clients. According to her website, she's all about sustainability, which is a huge cornerstone of Kate's fashion (cough, cough, the re-wears)! Her website even says, 'Ginnie promotes sustainable shopping habits and ethical awareness when recommending a fashion purchase.' Now, what fans may not know is that she and Kate originally met at the University of St Andrews while they were both studying Art History, per the Standard. She was invited to the royal wedding in 2011, and worked as Kate's stylist before! It's true, even Archer was on maternity leave in 2019, Kate tapped in Chadwyck-Healey to help with her public ensembles. So a pal she's worked with before? It seems like a very good possibility. Plus, insiders told DailyMail via The Standard in 2019 that: 'Ginnie is Catherine's secret weapon. She has made a big difference to the Duchess's wardrobe for public engagements and has helped give her a whole new sense of confidence. Catherine has been really impressed and is very grateful for her help.' While we eagerly await to see who Kate's new stylist is, our eyes are on Chadwyck-Healey.
