Did Mark Cuban Get Rich by ‘Scamming' Other Billionaires?

Mark Cuban has offered business advice to millions of people through his 'Shark Tank' appearances and has a partial stake in the Dallas Mavericks. However, some people — especially on Reddit — questioned his path to wealth, accusing the billionaire of scamming people to achieve his fortune. Cuban's initial riches didn't come from 'Shark Tank' or owning a basketball team. You need a lot of money to have those types of opportunities. The entrepreneur's big payday came in 1999 when Yahoo acquired his internet radio startup for $5.7 billion. Read Next: Check Out: The startup went out of business in just three years, but Cuban already made his money. It's regarded as one of the worst internet acquisitions during the dot-com bubble and some people view it as Cuban scamming people on the way to success. Although didn't live up to its price tag, it's hard to call it a scam — below is some important context to keep in mind. Also here's more on how Cuban became a billionaire. Cuban knew that his startup and most of the dot-com companies were overpriced. That's part of the reason he was eager to sell his company to Yahoo for $5.7 billion. Yahoo was making acquisitions left and right and lost a lot of money on a lot of deals. just happens to be a stand-out that is connected with Cuban. It's similar to when an investor sells a stock before it drops by 80%. It's not a scam, but the investor wanted to part ways with an asset before it lost significant value. Cuban knew this risk and used options to hedge his position in Yahoo stock. He received $1.4 billion in shares that he couldn't sell right away, so he bought Yahoo stock puts and sold calls leading up to the crash. See Next: Furthermore, was only started in 1995, so a $5.7 billion selling price is phenomenal after just two years of work. Financial markets rarely present those types of opportunities and Cuban was quick to pounce on it. It's not like Cuban forced Yahoo to buy his company for $5.7 billion. The company's executives had plenty of time to conduct due diligence and if they rushed the process, then that's on them. Not every business investment pans out and doing some due diligence can minimize the chances of making a mistake. Yahoo made several acquisitions during the dot-com bubble. It was a period of great irrationality that hurt many investors, but a few investors made out of that environment with a lot of money, including Cuban. It's well known that Yahoo executives also had the opportunity to buy Google for $1 million in 1998 but turned it down. They also had another chance to acquire Google for $5 billion in 2002. You can't miss out on more money than Yahoo did, even if you tried. The same management team that refused to buy Google at $5 billion in 2022 gave Cuban and his team $5.7 billion to acquire It's hard to call Cuban a scammer when the executives didn't do sufficient due diligence. There's nothing wrong with Cuban accepting a favorable deal if a company provided it to him after doing their research. The Most Meaningful Gift For Parents: Remento Enhances their Writing-Free Keepsake Memory Books with New Multiple Photos Feature

LOS ANGELES, June 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Remento, the innovative family memory preservation service that transforms spoken stories into hardcover keepsake books, today announced that families can now upload unlimited photos to each recording, creating richer family memory books without requiring any writing. This update addresses the growing demand for Remento's approach to preserving the memories and stories of aging parents and grandparents. Unlike traditional memoir services that require extensive writing, Remento's unique approach enables storytellers to simply speak their memories, which are automatically transformed into beautifully written stories and compiled into hardcover keepsake books. How Remento WorksFor $99, Remento offers a full year of weekly storytelling prompts and one book credit, whether purchased as a meaningful gift for an aging relative or for personal use. Families can customize prompts with photos and questions, while Remento curates additional prompts to uncover meaningful memories. When storytellers receive their weekly prompt via email and text message, they simply click a link from any device to record their response - no downloads or logins required. Remento's proprietary Speech-to-Story technology then uses AI to intelligently transform those transcripts into beautifully written stories. Users can choose between cleaned-up transcripts that preserve the storyteller's natural voice, or polished narrative stories that read like professionally written memoirs. Throughout the year, family members can collaborate by voting on prompts, uploading photos, picking questions, and sharing reactions to encourage continued participation. The process culminates in a hardcover book featuring written stories and QR codes that play the recordings used to write each chapter, preserving both memories and the storyteller's actual voice for future generations. Additional books cost $69, and families can renew annually at $99 to continue recording new stories. However, a subscription is not required to access or download recordings. About RementoRemento received investment from Mark Cuban on ABC's Shark Tank in March 2025 and recognition from major outlets, including the New York Post, CNN, Forbes, Fortune, and USA Today, and is a member of the AgeTech Collaborative™ from AARP. Through its automated interviewing platform and Speech-to-Story technology, recorded responses to curated prompts are turned into hardcover books. The books feature written stories, photos, and QR codes that link to the original recordings, helping families preserve their most cherished memories and voices for generations to come. Divorced and Facing IRS Collection? Clear Start Tax Outlines How Innocent Spouse Relief Could Save You Thousands

Clear Start Tax Explains How Divorced Taxpayers Can Escape IRS Liability for a Former Spouse's Mistakes IRVINE, CA / ACCESS Newswire Divorce can be complicated enough without the added stress of IRS debt. Yet every year, countless divorced Americans are shocked to discover they're on the hook for a former spouse's tax liabilities – often for mistakes they didn't know about. According to Clear Start Tax, a leading national tax resolution firm, the IRS's Innocent Spouse Relief program can offer a powerful – and often overlooked – solution. When Divorce Leaves Taxpayers Facing a Former Spouse's Mistakes Many taxpayers assume that a divorce decree automatically separates their financial obligations. But under joint tax returns, the IRS can pursue either spouse for the full amount owed, including taxes, penalties, and interest. That means years after a divorce, one spouse may face wage garnishment, bank levies, or collection notices for a tax bill they had no role in creating. 'We've worked with clients blindsided by IRS letters years after their divorce,' said the Head of Client Solutions at Clear Start Tax. 'Innocent Spouse Relief can be a lifeline in these cases – but most people don't even realize it exists.' Who Qualifies for Innocent Spouse Relief? Clear Start Tax explains that the IRS looks at several key factors when reviewing Innocent Spouse claims: The tax understatement was due to the other spouse's error (such as unreported income or inflated deductions). The innocent spouse didn't know, and had no reason to know, about the issue at the time. Holding the innocent spouse liable would be unfair or create hardship. The innocent spouse applies within the IRS's filing window (generally two years from first collection notice). Why the Right Approach Is Essential for Approval While the program offers powerful protection, Clear Start Tax emphasizes that success depends on a careful application and thorough documentation. Missing deadlines, submitting incomplete paperwork, or misunderstanding eligibility rules can lead to denial, leaving taxpayers exposed to the full debt. 'Innocent Spouse Relief isn't just a form-it's a carefully built case,' said the Head of Client Solutions at Clear Start Tax. 'We work closely with our clients to present the strongest possible application, so they can move forward without being burdened by a former partner's tax mistakes.' How Clear Start Tax Helps Divorced Taxpayers Regain Control Clear Start Tax offers a hands-on, strategic approach to Innocent Spouse claims and other tax resolution programs: Comprehensive case reviews to assess eligibility and strengthen claims Detailed preparation of IRS applications with supporting evidence Direct IRS communication and negotiation on the client's behalf Post-resolution guidance to maintain compliance and peace of mind About Clear Start Tax Clear Start Tax is a full-service tax liability resolution firm that serves taxpayers throughout the United States.
