Top Maoist leaders among 17 killed in Jharkhand's anti-insurgency ops this year: Police
According to data shared by Jharkhand Police during a press conference, 197 Naxals were arrested in various operations between January and June 2025. Among them were some leaders of various banned groups — including members of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), and Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP).
Those arrested include Aakraman Ganjhu, a Regional Committee Member of TSPC with a reward of Rs 15 lakh on his head, and Ranvijay Mahato, another Rs 15 lakh rewardee from the CPI (Maoist). The list also features several zonal and area commanders who had been active in multiple districts for years, Inspector General (Operations) Michael Raj said.
'Maoists have had a presence in Jharkhand for many years, and the police have been continuously acting against them,' he said. 'Out of the 17 Maoists, over 10 were killed in operations carried out in Bokaro alone.'
Fifty-five Maoists are currently on the Jharkhand Police's wanted list, with rewards ranging from Rs 1 crore to Rs 1 lakh, he said. Of these, 80 percent belong to the CPI (Maoist), while the rest are from the JMP, the TSPC, the Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC), and the PLFI. The top four Maoists on the list each carry a bounty of Rs 1 crore, followed by four others with Rs 25 lakh.
'Around 10 Maoists have surrendered in the past six months. During this period, security forces also seized 113 weapons, around 8,500 rounds of ammunition, and 176.5 kg of explosive substances,' he said. 'Those who are still taking up arms should come forward and surrender to the government… Our operations against extremism will continue in the years to come.'

7 ride one scooter in Odisha, fined Rs 21,500 after video goes viral: ‘6 of them were minors'
In a dangerous and bizarre breach of traffic rules, seven youngsters were caught cramming onto a single scooter and recklessly speeding through the streets of Odisha's Sambalpur late Sunday night. As per the instruction of SP, Dhanupali and Khetrajpur police started tracking the vehicle and traced the scooter.' The video of the incident has gone viral, and has sparked outrage online. One user commented, 'Is there any medium to report such peanuts riding bikes and scooty in very high speeds without any protective gear, risking lives of many? Coz I see many around me and despite the urge to stop and hit them, I can't coz then I'll be the culprit.' Another user wrote, 'We don't need to pay taxes.. you can recover all of the money from the fines itself from various sectors.' A third user took a dig, writing, 'They were practicing for the 26th January parade.' Some also raised questions about policy enforcement, with one commenter saying, 'Why govt not cancelling license because two wheller company will say our turnover is going down.' CCB seizes 123 kg of ganja; three arrested in Dakshina Kannada
Karnataka, Aug 1 (PTI) A large cache of ganja weighing 123 kg was seized by the Mangaluru City Crime Branch in a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, with three individuals arrested for allegedly transporting the contraband from Andhra Pradesh. Acting on a tip-off, CCB officials intercepted two cars near Mathadakere in Kantavar Cross, located in Beluvai village of Moodbidri taluk, Dakshina Kannada district, on Thursday. The contraband was reportedly being smuggled across state borders, they said. The arrested individuals have been identified as Masood M K (45), Mohammed Ashiq (24), and Subair (30), all residents of Kasaragod district in Kerala, officials added. In addition to the cannabis, officials also seized two vehicles—one registered in Karnataka and the other in Kerala—and five mobile phones. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at Rs 46.2 lakh. Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw cited the findings of a report, saying the incident happened on 'Foot Over Bridge (FOB)-3 stairs connecting Platform 14/15 at New Delhi Railway Station". 'On the day of the incident, sufficient crowd management protocols were in place to handle the overall volume of passengers at the station," he said. Explaining the events, he added that there was a gradual increase in passenger density on the FOB after 8.15 pm. 'Many of the passengers were carrying big headloads, affecting smooth movement on the FOB. There was a big headload falling from one of the passengers, and the pressure was passed on to the stairs of PF 14/15, resulting in the tripping of passengers on the stairs. This led to an incident at 8.48 pm on FOB-3, which was limited to the stairs of FOB. Consequently, passengers fell on each other," the ministry said. Rs 2.01 crore paid to 33 victims Vaishnaw said that an ex gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh was paid to the next of kin of each deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh each to the grievously injured, and Rs one lakh each to those with simple injuries.
