Bronny James is flipping the script with Lakers' summer league performance
The second-year Lakers guard ended the first half against the Celtics with zero points before he flipped the script, scoring a game-high 18 points to go with five assists, three rebounds and a steal in the 87-78 loss in Summer League action.
That included pulling a silky Euro-step out of his bag of tricks in the fourth quarter, freezing Boston's Kenneth Lofton Jr. in the paint.

Through four games with his fellow Los Angeles youngsters, James is averaging 14.3 points, 3.8 assists and 2.8 rebounds on 47.6% shooting.
The son of his Lakers superstar teammate LeBron James, Bronny's NBA career got off to an auspicious start as it was suspected his team guided him to Los Angeles in the 2023 draft and his rookie season saw limited minutes and plenty of the G League.

It's worked for his development as he's looked the veteran in this year's summer league, looking more comfortable on both sides of the ball — he locked down No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg in a high-profile showdown against the Mavericks.
'Yeah, for sure,' he told reporters after scoring 17 points against the Clippers this week. 'It helps that I was in the G-League running point guard most of the time. Just getting these reps in the Summer League is helping as well. Just getting more comfortable game by game.'
The younger James has seized some of the headlines back from his dad, who has been at the center of trade rumors and buzz this offseason.

The 40-year-old, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, exercised his $52.6 million option for the 2025-26 season, but agent Rich Paul hinted in a statement to ESPN that his client would seek a trade if he didn't feel as if Los Angeles would be contending for a title.

'LeBron wants to compete for a championship,' Paul told ESPN at the time. 'He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all. We are very appreciative of the partnership that we've had for eight years with Jeanie [Buss] and Rob [Pelinka] and consider the Lakers as a critical part of his career.'
This week, The Athletic reported the sides have not discussed and trade or buyout scenarios, leaving the elder James expected to still be a Laker at the beginning of the season.

Whether Bronny's summer league progress has played a role in his dad's decision remains to be seen, but it certainly can't be hurting.

Did Sparks' Kelsey Plum take shot at Caitlin Clark over shirt plan?
The post Did Sparks' Kelsey Plum take shot at Caitlin Clark over shirt plan? appeared first on ClutchPoints. Los Angeles Sparks star Kelsey Plum may have playfully taken a dig at Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark's team after the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday night. During warmups for the game, Plum and every player donned shirts that had the phrase 'pay us what you owe us,' demanding better pay for the league's players. After the game, Plum explained what went behind the idea of wearing them while jokingly taking a shot at Team Clark. 'The T-shirt was determined this morning. Not to tattletale: 0 members of Team Clark were very present for that [morning meeting],' Plum said, alluding to the fact that players on Clark's team were spotted out partying late the night before. Plum, who was sitting with Team Clark member Sabrina Ionescu, also touched on the fan support the players received during the game. '[The crowd chanting to 'pay them'] was a very powerful moment. As players, we didn't know that was going to happen. It was a genuine surprise.' What lies ahead for Kelsey Plum, Sparks It is understandable that WNBA players want their pay to grow as soon as possible. The WNBA's CBA will improve over time as players will earn more in their salaries while the league grows in popularity. While it will take more than just Caitlin Clark to pull this off, their objective is more important for the long term. In the meantime, Plum will return to business with the Sparks. Los Angeles has an 8-14 record on the season, holding the sixth spot in the Western Conference standings. They are two games behind the Golden State Valkyries and three games behind the Las Vegas Aces. The Sparks will prepare for their next matchup on the road. They face the Washington Mystics on July 22 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Article has been updated for clarity. Cameron Brink, Rae Burrell get major injury updates, per Sparks coach Lynne Roberts
The post Cameron Brink, Rae Burrell get major injury updates, per Sparks coach Lynne Roberts appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Los Angeles Sparks managed to salvage what would have been a disappointing road trip following their 85-75 win against the Indiana Fever on Thursday. Finishing the trip at 1-2, the Sparks return home for a rematch against the Chicago Sky. And much-needed reinforcements might be on the way. Both Cameron Brink and Rae Burrell are expected to return from injury soon, as per Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts. Prior to the Sparks game against the Sky, Roberts gave a brief update on both Cameron Brink and Rae Burrell in terms of when they might come off the injury report. 'We're still missing Rae Burrell, we're still missing Cameron Brink, those guys will be back. The will be back soon,' Roberts said. 'Rae will be back soon, Cameron will be back soonish. That's a good way to say it.' 'So once we get those guys back and in the rotation, then I think we're going to be. . .part of our inconsistency on the floor has been inconsistency with our roster,' Roberts continued. 'We've had people in and out, hurt, back, and then out, and it's hard. But we're learning from it and we're getting tougher because of it, and we really emphasize control what you can control.' Brink has yet to make her 2025 season debut as she continues to recover from an ACL injury that cut her rookie season short. Burrell suffered a leg injury during the Sparks' opening night win against the Valkyries and has been out since. Her initial timeline for recovery was four to six weeks. Both players were being looked at as playing crucial roles on this season's team. Sparks' search for consistency Consistency has been hard to come by for the Sparks, and that's been even more evident with the rotating roster amid multiple injuries and absences. The Sparks recently welcomed Odyssey Sims back in the fold after she missed the last five games due to personal reasons. Promising second-year wing Rickea Jackson missed time earlier this season due to being placed in concussion protocol and the lasting after-effects. The team is currently without backup guard Julie Allemand who is participating in Eurobasket with the Belgium national team. But even with the absences and inconsistency that stems from it, the Sparks have found themselves in close games this season, and have just been unable to close them out. Their fortunes changed against the Fever when they rallied back from a ten-point deficit to win the game. For Roberts, it was simply a matter of the team being tired of just coming up short. 'I think they were fed up with being this close in so many games. And the difference was, I could feel there was a different vibe. They were way more connected. There wasn't panic and we were down ten with nine minutes to go,' Roberts said. 'To be completely candid, I didn't realize we were down that much in the fourth until I watched the game back home.' 'It just didn't feel like it, there wasn't that panic,' Roberts continued. 'We executed down the stretch, and I think we needed that, not just the win but the way we won. We've got to now stack it.'
