James McDonald clinches ninth Sydney jockeys' premiership to move closer to George Moore's record
McDonald went without a win on his first day back riding in Sydney in more than a month at Warwick Farm but didn't need one to officially move within touching distance of George Moore's all-time Sydney premiership record.

His latest title success, his 9th in total, has been a fait accompli for several months.
McDonald finished the 2024/25 campaign with 83 city winners to sit comfortably clear of Jason Collett (74 winners) and Zac Lloyd (67 winners).
Next season McDonald is the hot favourite to add a 10th premiership and equal Moore's long held record in Sydney racing.
He can also equal Moore's amazing feat of eight straight Sydney titles, which was achieved on a historic run from 1961-62 to 1968-69.
McDonald's latest haul is the least victories he's had in a premiership-winning season since winning his first in 2013-14 with 72 winners.

But the coveted crown has come with a sensational winning strike rate in town of just over 25 per cent while juggling international commitments in Hong Kong and the Middle East as well as several interstate raids.
His partnership with soon-to-be horse of the year Via Sistina helped propel him to a career best season of 21 Group 1 victories with a personal record of more than $59m in prizemoney earned for connections.

McDonald can kick the new season off on a high note with seven rides at Saturday's Rosehill Gardens meeting.
It will also see the metropolitan return of leading apprentice Braith Nock, who added his name to one of Sydney racing's most coveted honour rolls.
Nock has spent the final two weeks of the campaign on the sidelines through suspension but did more than enough to celebrate his maiden apprentices' title with 40 winners for the campaign.

Chris Waller (142 winners) continued his remarkable reign at the top of the tree of the Sydney training ranks which has now stretched for 15 seasons.
Premiership winners will be celebrated at Saturday's Rosehill Gardens card, which coincides with the Australian Turf Club's Jockey Celebration Day.
Australian Turf Club head of racing and wagering Nevesh Ramdhani paid tribute to the premiership winners.
'Sydney has world-class jockeys and trainers who help to make our racing the equal of any centre 52 weeks a year,'' Ramdhani said.
'It is fitting we celebrate the premiership winners whilst hosting a large number of retired jockeys who have created their own history and memories on Sydney tracks.'

In the 17-second clip, Callow, riding a bicycle on the footpath with a jockey whip in the left hand, fired extremely offensive racist four-letter slurs at pedestrians after inaudible verballing. The leaked videos were initially shared privately but have since been circulated more widely. Callow is again in Darwin to reunite with out-of-sorts Bear Story in the $200,000 Darwin Cup on Monday. Callow last year placed third on then favourite Bear Story in the Northern Territory feature. The 50-year-old also has two rides in Darwin on Saturday. The Queensland-licensed ex-Victorian made a winning return to the races on Wednesday in Darwin. Callow has only just completed a two-month suspension for a physical altercation with another rider in the jockeys' room during a race meet at Doomben on May 28. The man responded to Callow with 'what's wrong with you?' after the jockey started singing Treaty, the famous Yothu Yindi anthem. Callow ended the clip with 'Good to have you on the show, man'. The exact timing of the videos is unclear, other than separate night and day interactions. The daylight racially-fuelled clip started with Callow riding a bicycle up behind pedestrians. 'Look at these c--ts,' Callow said. After an inaudible exchange, a pedestrian shouts 'watch out where you're riding your bike'. Callow fired back with venom. 'Stop walking on the f---ing footpath, you f---ing c--ns,' Callow said. 'Get up the c--ns.'

Ladbrokes reveals the biggest winners and losers from the 2024-25 racing season
Wagering giant Ladbrokes has released details of the jockeys, trainers and horses who were the biggest winners and losers for punters in the just completed racing season. Melbourne Cup winner Robbie Dolan was the biggest pal of punters, stripping more than $11m from the betting agency's book which was mainly thanks to the Cup win of $91 longshot Knight's Choice. Punters also filled up by backing Sydney star hoop Tim Clark, who was a $2.3m loser for Ladbrokes over the racing season, while underrated Victorian hoop Jordan Childs was a $1.6m loser for Ladbrokes. By contrast, backing Victorian champion jockey Jamie Melham was a wipe-out for punters with the bookie winning $5.5m from her rides during the season. Kerrin McEvoy, Joao Moreira and William Pike were also major winners for the betting agency. Punters have to pay the so-called 'J-Mac tax' to back the mounts of superstar Sydney hoop James McDonald who was a $560,000 winner for Ladbrokes during the racing season. Chris Waller might dominate Australian racing but the legendary Sydney trainer was a big winner for Ladbrokes who were more than $11m richer from punters who backed Waller's 2393 runners during the season. Other big names such as Ciaron Maher and James Cummings were also major winners for the betting giant. Melbourne Cup legend Sheila Laxon, who trains with husband John Symons, was a major punters' pal as punters who backed her runners during the season scooped more than $12m. It was a figure inflated by the Melbourne Cup fairytale of Knight's Choice, the roughie who became the first Queensland-trained winner in Melbourne Cup history. Sydney trainer Bjorn Baker has been airborne in 2024-2025 and bookmakers don't want another season where punters score a total win of $2.8m from his 756 runners in the just finished racing season. Victorians Grahame Begg and Matt Laurie were also strip outs for the Ladbrokes as punters scored more than $2m in profits from each. In terms of horses, Blue Army warrior Zardozi was the biggest loser for Ladbrokes punters who dusted off a combined $1.79m from backing the mare during the season. Buckaroo wasn't far behind, producing a $1.69m loss for punters, while Giga Kick backers contributed a $1.2m profit to the betting agency's book.
