Alcantara, Cabrera both in top 30 of ESPN's top MLB trade prospects
In ESPN's most recent trade deadline predictions, both Marlins pitchers cracked the top 30 most likely to be dealt — Alcantara landing at No. 4 and Cabrera at No. 18.
But Marlins teammate and All-Star Kyle Stowers said they try not to let the speculation get to them on the field.
'Obviously, it's a part of the business,' Stowers said. 'But I think it can be more exhausting to try to play the hypotheticals... At the end of the day, what's going to happen will happen.'
Sandy Alcantara, the 2022 NL Cy Young Award winner, has consistently struggled this season, raising questions about his future with the team. After his most recent start against the Kansas City Royals on Friday, his ERA lands at a whopping 7.14, and his inconsistency has fueled the speculation surrounding his name.
ESPN currently gives him a 50% chance of being traded, a number that seemed unthinkable just a season ago.
'He has been tinkering this season to try to get his pitch mix and locations right in hopes of regaining his former glory,' wrote ESPN insiders Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan.
Cabrera, on the other hand, has been a bright spot in an otherwise up-and-down Marlins rotation.
Despite dealing with minor injuries and making three fewer starts than Alcantara, he's posted a 3.61 ERA and leads the team with 86 strikeouts. ESPN pegs his trade likelihood at 30%, but with a fastball topping out at 97 mph and a diverse pitch mix that troubles both lefties and righties, he's seen as one of the more valuable young arms on the market. For the Marlins, they could get a serious payout for him with three more years under team control.
'Cabrera has premium stuff, and he's got a lot of weapons,' General Manager Clayton McCullough said earlier this season.
With just days remaining before the trade deadline, the upcoming series against the Padres could play a critical role in determining both pitchers' futures. Their performances could raise — or lower — their trade value. Either way, this could very well be the last time we see Cabrera and Alcantara wearing a Marlins uniform.

Elgton Jenkins focused on becoming a "great" center rather than his contract
Elgton Jenkins wanted a reworked contract for moving from left guard to center, but when it became clear the Packers have no plans to alter his deal, Jenkins said he accepted the move. Jenkins, who skipped the voluntary offseason program, practiced Monday for the first time since his position switch after beginning training camp on the non-football injury list with a back injury. Jenkins said his agent, Damarius Bilbo, spoke to the Packers, and Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports that Bilbo asked about guaranteeing some of the remaining money on the final two years of the deal. 'They had a conversation, and obviously the conversation was going on for a long period of time,' Jenkins said, via Demovsky. 'But right now where we're at is focusing on the being the best player I can be. Been playing this game for 20-some years, seven years in the league. I'm very confident in my ability and what I can do. The financial side, I know that's going to come. Right now, it's just how can we build chemistry within the O-line to get better and as an offense.' Jenkins forfeited a $500,000 workout bonus for skipping the voluntary offseason work. He has non-guaranteed salaries of $11.7 million this season and $18.5 million in 2026, and he said he has no assurances from the Packers about his future. The two-time Pro Bowler will replace center Josh Myers, who left in free agency, with free agent signee Aaron Banks starting at left guard. Jenkins made 16 starts at left guard and one at center last season. 'There was definitely some rust that had to be knocked off,' Jenkins said. 'I'm about to get the ins and outs of things, but I played it in college, got drafted here as a center. It's not going to be anything different. ESPN proposes much-needed Indiana Fever trade deadline acquisition
As the WNBA's Aug. 7 trade deadline looms, ESPN shared moves it believes should be made throughout the league, including the Indiana Fever adding skill and scoring depth. In the article, ESPN proposes the Fever acquiring Dallas Wings forward Myisha Hines-Allen in exchange for center Damiris Dantas and a 2026 second-round pick. Here's what ESPN said about the proposed flip: After shooting 36% on 3s last season, split between the Mystics and Lynx, Hines-Allen is down to 30% this season. Since Hines-Allen is a career 35% shooter, improvement should be expected. Even that down season from Hines-Allen has been better beyond the arc than Dantas, shooting 26.5% (34% career but just 31% since 2021). As a third post behind starters Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard, Hines-Allen should be an improvement. And with the Wings five games out of the eighth seed, getting anything in return would probably make this trade worth it. - Kevin Pelton, ESPN While Hines-Allen scored 7.8 points per game on 49.2% shooting from the field and 36% from 3-point territory last season in her combined stints with the Washington Mystics and Minnesota Lynx, she has taken a dip in those numbers this year as the eighth-year forward has shot just 46.7% from the field and 29.6% from 3-point territory for the lowly Wings. Given the Fever's need for another consistent scorer behind starters Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston with Caitlin Clark sidelined, Hines-Allen would be a significant improvement on the offensive end. Although Indiana has recently seen quality scoring depth off the bench from players like Lexie Hull, Sophie Cunningham, and Makayla Timpson, the team can ill-afford to be complacent as they make their second-half push towards the WNBA playoffs. As for who they would be giving up in the hypothetical transaction, the Fever send forward Damiris Dantas, who has served as a decent reserve player this season for Indiana. Despite missing time due to being named to Brazil's 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup roster this past June, Dantas has averaged 4.6 points per game on 33.3% shooting from the floor and 26.5% accuracy from long range in 20 games played.
