London's Mayor Opens London Fashion Week Store

Yahoo22-02-2025
LONDON — Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, opened the British Fashion Council's three-day pop-up store on Regent Street, which he described as 'arguably the best street in Europe.'
The store, curated by retail veteran Ida Petersson and creative consultant Lewis Bloyce, stocks pieces from 22 emerging British brands that are part of the BFC's Newgen scheme.

'We worked with the designers to ensure they could have the pieces that felt most important to them, which makes the overall store a wonderful mix of archive, never seen, and current season,' said Petersson and Bloyce.
On the ground floor, customers can shop archival and current ready-to-wear pieces from brands including KNWLS, 16Arlington, Conner Ives, Johanna Parv, Saul Nash, Ahluwalia, and Bianca Saunders.
Upstairs, there's a selection of jewelry and footwear from labels such as Ancuta Sarca, while customizable Helen Kirkum sneakers are on offer. There are also panel discussions, workshops, and piercings by Aurum London.
'It's an opportunity to engage all of those incredible customers who go up and down Regent Street, particularly over the weekend,' said Caroline Rush, chief executive officer of the BFC.
The pop-up is part of the City Wide Celebration program, which aims to boost the visibility of fashion experiences across the capital's prime shopping destinations such as Regent Street, Oxford Street, Soho and Covent Garden.
The initiative is supported by 1664 Blanc, the Crown Estate, and partners, patrons and members of the BFC.
Khan, who also attended the Harris Reed show on Thursday night, said he wants to increase government support of the British fashion industry.
'We've got to persuade the new government of how important fashion is to our economy nationally. Fashion contributes 64 billion pounds. Half of that comes from London, but it's also who we are,' he said.

Nicholas Hoult On Looking "Inbred," Viral Interview

Nicholas Hoult was just 11 years old when he first found fame as Hugh Grant's young costar in the 2002 hit movie About A Boy. Since then, his career has flourished, with Nicholas also being known for his performance as Tony Stonem in the gritty British series Skins, as well as a whole bunch of popular movies like Warm Bodies and The Menu. Nick has also joined some huge franchises, including Mad Max and X-Men. Most recently, he has garnered huge acclaim for his performance as villain Lex Luthor in the latest Superman movie. And throughout his career, the star has been no stranger to fans thirsting over him — but a recently resurfaced 2023 interview suggests that he hasn't let this attention go to his head... In fact, Nick had a straight-up bizarre response to a radio host asking him about his good looks, and how left-field his answer was has led to the actor going pretty viral on X. In an interview with Hits radio, Nick was asked: 'How does it feel, in life, being such a beautiful person?'The star was clearly taken aback by this question and blushed as he laughed and thanked the interviewer for the compliment. He then said: 'That's weird. I read something recently, I did a show called The Great, I play the emperor of Russia in that, and I saw a comment of someone on Twitter that said: 'He looks like just the right amount of inbred to be a royal.'' 'And so I don't think I'm conventionally very handsome or anything,' Nick went on. 'I don't have the perks of being handsome because I look more inbred.' Needless to say, people can't get enough of this response, with one X user sharing a video of the interview alongside the caption: 'this is how I take compliments btw.' The tweet has already been seen over a million times, and has racked up thousands of likes, replies, and reply asked: 'Nicholas Hoult is one of my very few male celebrity crushes and he thinks he looks inbred?!''Wdym Nicholas Hoult doesn't think he is handsome????????' somebody else joked: 'I've been saying he's hot since he was in skins what more does he need.'While one more reasoned: 'He doesn't look inbred he's just English.'

3 Nineties Winona Ryder Looks To Steal For 2025 – From Grunge Glamour To Red-Carpet Minimalism

Winona Ryder graces the cover of ELLE UK this month. A true style icon, the actor has always mastered that elusive balance between rebellious and refined dressing, making her one of the most enduring fashion muses of the Nineties and beyond. In celebration of her timeless style, we've rounded up three of her most iconic 1990s outfits and reimagined them for 2025. From red-carpet moments to off-duty airport chic, these looks feel just as relevant today as they did then, proving that good style never goes out of fashion. At the Eyes Wide Shut premiere party in 1999, Ryder embodied late-Nineties minimalism in a sheer black slip dress, arm cuff and kitten-heeled mules. It was a look that whispered rather than shouted; a quietly provocative, effortlessly cool ensemble. For 2025, we're recreating this barely-there elegance with a sheer, bias-cut slip that nods to Ryder's original. Pair it with kitten heels – chic, sensible, and a nostalgic throwback to Nineties party style that won't kill your feet by midnight. Add a hint of glint with a sculptural cuff-style bracelet or two, paired with matching earrings. Ryder's 1992 Dracula premiere look, an iridescent blue skirt suit complete with broderie anglaise trim and an in-built corset, was a masterclass in power dressing. This is a look you could lift wholesale for 2025 – the ruffle and lace detail falls just on the right side of coquettish, especially when styled simply with just a pair of slingback heels and a simple necklace. Or, you could channel that same cool confidence with a contemporary twist, swapping corseted tailoring for a boxy jacket and matching skirt. Either way, like Ryder then (and now), you'll look smart, subversive and subtly glamorous. Tailoring has always been a key part of Ryder's style, whether on the red carpet or off-duty. This oversized blazer and cropped trouser combo, which she wore for a flight into LAX, is effortless, a little grunge and timeless. Whether you're airport-bound or running errands, this is Ryder's signature brand of nonchalant chic that turns heads without ever trying too hard. Copy her original 1990s 'fit with a menswear-inspired blazer worn over an oversized white tee (dinosaur suitcase optional), or channel Ryder's ELLE cover shoot with something a little more tailored, worn with lashings of gold jewellery.
