CHENGDU, China, May 29 (Bernama) -- May 18 is International Museum Day. This year, a trend of 'specialty swap' has swept into the world of cultural relics. Under the initiative of the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration, three major museums in Southwest China—Sanxingdui, Jinsha, and Luojiaba—have launched a cross-time-and-space 'cultural relics delivery' event.
In southwestern China, the Sichuan Basin is a land where diverse civilizations converge. The Ba and Shu cultures complement each other, with the former being vigorous and martial and the latter refined and scholarly, blending harmoniously. The ancient Shu people were romantic and imaginative, as evidenced by their Bronze Mythical Tree and the Sun and Immortal Birds that embodied cosmic visions. The Ba people were valiant and warlike, as reflected in their bronze weapons and battle-themed engravings that recorded their tribal memories. These two cultures merged in their interactions, jointly crafting the rich and diverse chapter of the Ba-Shu region within the broader tapestry of Chinese civilization.

Police receive seven reports after 80 haj pilgrims stranded at KLIA
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed receiving reports on the 80 haj pilgrims stranded at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) after being duped with the offer to perform haj using Mujamalah visas. Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said so far, seven reports have been lodged by the affected individuals. "I can confirm that we have received the reports, and the case is being investigated under Sections 420 and 511 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 4). On June 3, the media reported that around 80 individuals preparing to depart for the haj were stopped by a special task force at KLIA, reportedly after their travel agency had arranged for them to travel using tourist visas instead of the promised Mujamalah visas. The pilgrims reportedly failed to obtain the Mujamalah visa due to a technical issue with the Nusuk system. However, the travel agency allegedly insisted on flying them out using tourist visas, resulting in them being denied departure. The Mujamalah visa is a special visa issued by the government of Saudi Arabia to certain individuals or groups and is not part of the official haj quota allocated to Malaysia. – Bernama

(Bernama pic) OSAKA : 'Flying roti canai' has quickly become a crowd-puller at Expo 2025 Osaka, drawing visitors to the Malaysia Pavilion with its skillful preparation and irresistible buttery aroma, Bernama reported yesterday. The sight of roti canai being expertly tossed high into the air by Muhammad Muiz Ruzaini and Mohamad Zul Imran Zulkifle, combined with the tempting aroma, has whetted the appetites of visitors, some of whom are willing to queue for up to two hours. Muiz said he had not expected to be selected as part of the Malaysian delegation to Expo 2025 Osaka, where he would showcase the rich flavours of Malaysian cuisine on the world stage. What makes the experience even more rewarding is the overwhelming response from visitors, the Kedahan added. 'Many praised the deliciousness of the roti canai and gave very positive feedback, both in terms of taste and our presentation. 'After they ate, many would come up and say 'oishi' (delicious). Some even repeated it seven times,' he said, adding that most of the visitors were from Japan, South Korea and China. The freshly made roti canai, served with chicken curry and dhal, is priced at 1,680 yen (about RM50) per serving. I first saw it on X, and the unforgettable taste brought me back. I lined up again just to relive the experience,' she said. Another visitor, Hanako Sekimukai, said she was pleasantly surprised by its flavour. 'I've been to Malaysia before but I never had the chance to try roti canai. The chicken curry served with it wasn't too spicy, which made it even more enjoyable,' she said, adding that the cultural performances at the pavilion brought back fond memories of her time in Malaysia. Located on a 2,655-sq-m site across three floors, the Malaysia Pavilion reflects the nation's diverse culture and dynamic economy. Kuching marathon to showcase capital's colonial and cultural charm
THE 10th edition of the Kuching Marathon (KM2025), scheduled for Sept 21, will offer participants an illuminating journey through Kuching's rich cultural and colonial heritage. Sarawak Youth, Sports and Enterpreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said KM2025 aims to strengthen Kuching's presence on the world map by promoting the city as a hub for sports, recreation and tourism, while fostering a healthy lifestyle. 'Among the highlights of this year's edition is the improved 42km full marathon race route, offering runners a more scenic course. 'For the first time, all participants who complete their race within the cut-off time, including those in the 10km and 5km categories, will receive a finisher's T-shirt. 'This is in addition to the event T-shirt and a specially designed finisher's medal,' he told Bernama. Abdul Karim said to date, KM2025 has attracted a total of 7,822 registered runners, comprising 6,719 Malaysians and 1,103 international participants. He added that most of the local runners are from Sarawak, while foreign participants hail from countries like Brunei, Canada, China, Ghana, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, the Maldives, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam and the United Kingdom.
